Description

The AmScope SM-4B professional stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super- widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, and a double- arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 7x-45x. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected. Ambient lighting illuminates the specimen, eliminating the need for power or batteries. The microscope has a double-arm boom stand that enables users to position the microscope head on all three axes (X, Y, and Z). Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stand has 20" double arms, and a 30" overall length. The pillar is 17" and the focus rack has a 3" diameter. The solid cast-steel base is 2 x 8-1/4 x 10-1/4 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).SpecificationsHeadBinocularMagnification range7x-45xZoom objective power 0.7x-4.5xEyepieces (DIN, 30mm)WH10x20mm high- eyepointZoom range6.5:1Field of view1-1/4"Optical working distanceUp to 4"Microscope standDouble-arm boom standHead movementX-, Y-, and Z-axesIllumination typeN/ALight sourceAmbientPowerN/A Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. • Great microscope! Great price!
I got this microscope for soldering iphones. I had the amscope se400-z before this one. It makes a big difference. The field of vision is bigger, images are crisper and clearer, and it has variable zoom, unlike my last one that was 10x or 20x(depending on the eyepieces). The old one would get dust on the eyepieces on the rear end when I would swap them, and no matter what people say out the there, you can never get as much dust off as when the eyepieces came new from the factory. With variable zoom,I don’t have to remove the eyepieces. This allows less dust to enter the internals of the scope! With my last scope, the 20x eyepieces sucked though. It had a very narrow field of view, and it was not clear enough. With this one,the field of view is so much better, even at higher magnifications(it doesn’t feel like you’re looking through a tunnel). It’s an excellent scope for microsoldering. As for the light ring and Barlow lens, nobody seems to say anything online, but if you use the Barlow and use the light ring, since the light ring is further away from the object your viewing,it distorts the image, since the light has more time to go diagonally. It shines directly on what you’re looking at instead of around it. This causes grayish discoloration. As long as you use it with the 4 inch working distance,it looks great with the $26 amscope ring. One frustrating thing is that the scope doesn’t come with the eye guards it advertises. It comes with rubber rings that go around the eyepiece, but not actual guards. But other than that,it’s the best scope I think I’ll ever own! ... show more

  • No regrets at all! Excellent product
What a great scope for the price. I am impressed with the quality of the materials and optics. Much of the product is steel. Little plastic. The base weighs as much as a thousand suns (a Futurama reference). Seriously, it assembles quickly and is quite solid. You'll want to place it on a good, sturdy surface. Avoid tables with particle board tops unless they are extremely (!!!!) well supported. I'm not kidding. By the way, the instructions weren't used for assembly, but they were quite clear and ledgible, not tiny either. Kudos to Amscope. ... show more

  • Very glad I finallly purchased this sterio microscope. Met all my goals.
I have been wanting a great binocular microscope for many years. Finally bought this one as a self birthday present. Very please with the quality of the image and accessories that I got with it. Use many at work, and this matches my expectations. Very pleased. I would say that you may not need the twin rail. We don't have them at work, an likely not needed. That said - for the extra couple of dollars, and only planing to get one for many years to come - I am very pleased withe my choice. Great image, great range of magnification, excellent stereo image, very stable, glides smoothly, very well packages, easy to assembly... You get the idea. I am happy with my purchase and have enjoyed very opportunity to use the microscope. Wish I had gotten it years ago. ... show more

  • Best inspection scope for the money.
Easy to assemble and built like a tank! I use it for soldering so I also purchased a 0.5X Barlow lens in order to extend working distance. My work uses these, they are excellent. I highly recommend it.

  • Beware of invoice coming in the mail
Our company almost paid for this twice because our accounting dept. received a paper invoice in the mail separately from the item.

  • Good enough for hobby work
Good enough for hobby work, wouldn't buy for work. Plastic body, good optics, threads for add on lenses don't match Meiji etc. Very heavy stand which is good. Zoom is reversed from most scopes. Better than old B&L scopes, not as good as Leica or Meiji, but much cheaper.

  • Great microscope
The microscope works great and as advertised. The assembly was a little tricky because the model I ordered was not covered in the instructions. I assembled it just based on the photo on the Amazon page. It wasn’t particularly difficult as there are not that many components, but instructions would have been nice. Also fair warning it is very heavy so be careful when moving the box. ... show more

  • Sixty pounds of awesome, and may be overkill
I bought this microscope with the double arm boom stand for some watch repair work and it's absolutely fantastic and most likely the stand is severe overkill. I'm attempting to correct a very bent hair spring and at low magnification it lets me clearly see each of the rings and where I need to adjust. At close ups you can clearly see the state of the impulse jewel. At low magnification I have a low-strain view of the entire balance (small Seiko) and easy to see the flatness of the spring as well as the spacing between each winding. It does come with eye relief grommets but they are short and not angled so worth the extra to buy those. If I were to purchase again I'd step down a notch to a single arm boom stand, mostly for ease of moving it around and the amount of space it is taking in my home. The AmScope ring light (purchased separately) is really useful in my work so far, and the adjustable dial really helpful. ... show more
