This dish set is awesome. The lip on the side of the plates is fantastic to help scoop up food, and is also great to hold onto when carrying a plate. The bowls are a great size for cereal! My existing every-day dinnerware was old and showing signs of its age (chips, etc.) so I decided it was time to replace them. I saw this set and ordered them as I liked the design with the flat plate and rim as opposed to a gentle bowl/ellipse shape that many other plates have. This design allows you to plate foods that have liquids without the liquids immediately mixing with each other. I also like the color and ease in which they clean up. I will state the obvious here in mentioning that these are my "everyday" dishes and not my "guest" or "entertaining" dishes as they are more casual in design and appearance - but they work perfectly for that application. These are so different than yhe traditional plates with the curve to the lip edge. These have a real unique defined edge withe rest of the plate flat. The contrasting colors is also nice. So far they seem durable, as stoneware, they are a heavy weight and when I'm carrying them to the sink, I loose the fork everytime, just funny but it's a nice set and something different. ... show more

Simple and elegant this stoneware set fits in perfectly with our tastes and uses. The lip on the plates is around half an inch, give or take, to help prevent most accidental loss of food. The bowls have nice steep sides with just a bit of taper that makes them good for just about any food you'd eat out of a bowl regularly. I love the black on white design and the fact that the bowls and larger plates have black outers and white inners while the smaller plates are reversed. Be careful when washing them as their glaze can make them really slippery and easy to drop when washing them by hand. ... show more
