There is no question from the time you open the box that this is a commercial grade shelf. I looked at several and, while the others looked good, they were quite lightweight, using thin sheet metal. This shelf uses a uniform thickness of heavy polished stainless steel and while not cheap, there is no question it is worth the price. Note that there are several varieties of similar shelves being sold by different Amazon sellers and they’re not all the same, and that difference can be more than cosmetic. Many are essentially a rectangular box with an open bottom, so in other words a flat shelf with all four corners folded into a box-like shape. It is hard to make that shape without it tending to flex and in extreme cases, to bend. This shelf is formed by a single sheet of metal that has a rear lip folded up at 90 degrees and a front edge that’s rolled over in a bullnose, with finished end pieces. The shape is highly rigid and resistant to torsional flex. And the center of the shelf is completely immune to bowing. I get the sense that this shelf could support a lot of weight as long as it is properly anchored. The fit and finish is on the high end and suitable for home as well as restaurant use. The included brackets are heavy-duty and bolt securely to the shelf with hidden nuts. The only let-down is the particular seller I bought if from through Amazon felt it necessary to open the box from China and slap his label on the front edge. Sorry, I didn’t pay $50+ to advertise his company in my kitchen. It’s not even a good quality label. Fortunately I was able to peel it off without leaving residue, which saved that seller from getting dinged a star for his attempt to promote himself. One other thing to mention is that the shelf arrived in a cardboard box with no packing foam or anything around it, and the brackets were wrapped in thin bubblewrap but just tossed in on top of the shelf. I was fortunate that the box wasn’t abused in shipping because it would have been very easy for the shelf to have arrived in bad shape. I guess I could call it a testament to how solid the shelf is made that it survived without damage. All things considered this shelf exceeded my expectations and I consider it a good value for the selling price. Got it wide enough to fit over dryer and it's deep enough for wife to keep a laundry basket on shelf instead of scratching up top of new dryer. Solid easy to install. I lined one shelf bracket up with wall stud. Then drilled holes in the top edge to line up with other stud to make it more solid.

Quality Product that goes great with my stainless kitchen. Very strong, and will hold a lot of weight if need be. Only downside is the cheap wall anchors they give you to attach the shelf to the wall if you can't attach to a stud. Had to go buy anchors that work and do not push into the wall when screwed into. ... show more

--- 2023 UPDATE!! --- I originally reviewed in 2016. I came back to purchase a small shelf from the same manufacturer, and I chuckled seeing my old kitchen photo used in the description. Hey guys! I've updated my kitchen since then! I've attached updated pics of the kitchen using the same base shelves. Since 2016, I've LOVED these things! In the past 7 years of use, with humid pressure cooker and convection oven blasting away, the finish has been completely clean and free of any oxidation spots (from low-quality stainless impurities / inclusions). I CANNOT say the same thing for the stainless-tops island & microwave from a popular Amazon furniture brand (Homestyles). --- ORIGINAL REVIEW 2016 --- I purchased the 18"x60" (and the week after) the 12"x60". (Shipped out of NY) PROS These things are great quality for the price. 18-gauge stainless is very sturdy, and the rolled bullnose is much superior to a squared edge that a lot of other similar shelves have. The bullnose design also adds a considerable amount of structural integrity to the entire unit. As you can see in the photos, we have the 12" shelf holding our appliances, while the 18" shelf holds our coffee maker and toaster oven, with a nice work space in the center. The stainless looks professional and sleek in our kitchen, especially compared to anything else we could have bought for under $200 total. This really opened up our kitchen. If we move, these shelves can be reused in our kitchen, or put in our hobby-office, or in our garage. This is ultimately why I chose stainless, for its versatility and longevity. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the purchase! CONS Finishing work on the corners, there's a distinct edge where film met the buffed surface. Not a huge deal, but if you're super super fickle about a perfectly finished and blended edge, don't be surprised by it. I'll probably blend it out myself sometime as a short project this spring/summer. They also got a wee bit sloppy with the silver solder on the center support mounting threads, but unless you're looking for it, you wouldn't even notice. The largest complaint were the two dents on the backsplash of the 18" shelf where it was plastic banding was cranked down too tight. The dents did not happen in shipping, it was 100% the suppliers packing. One side was worse than the other, and we straightened it out the best we could, but due to the rigidity of the structure itself, there was only so much we could do. The 12" didn't come like that, it was snugged secure, yet not buckled. It didn't hinder the performance of the product in any way, and the dents aren't very noticeable at a distance, but more care should have been taken as the backsplash is the weakest part and with the direction of force applied with the bander, the packing employee should have known better. The buckles/dents were the sole reason I took a star off. MOUNTING The mounting was pretty straight forward. We mounted the center support on a stud, then used drywall anchor plug+screws for the ends. The first shelf took a bit of trial and error, the second went flawlessly. To save you some headache, here's what we did for our three-support long shelf, using two people: 1- Measure for center support first and mark the holes using a template or ruler. Use a level to make sure it's level vertically (perpendicular with the floor/future shelf). Double check holes by holding up the actual support to your marked locations. 2- Drill your holes and mount the center support to the wall. 3- Loosely attach the two ends onto the shelf (the side supports are slotted to allow wiggle room since not all walls are perfectly flush). 4- Drop the shelf onto the center support, have the other person hold it steady, and snug down the center support's acorn nuts (thumb tight). 5- While still being supported by the other person, move to one side and push the side support flush against the wall, and using the level, make sure the shelf end is level and the support is level as well (perpendicular with the shelf). Mark your holes with a pencil. 6- Have the other person hold that end for you, keeping the support steady, flush, and on the marked holes, while you do the same thing on the other side. 7- Pull the shelf back off and drill your marked holes. 8- Drop the shelf back on, thumb snug the center acorn nuts, and mount your two ends to the wall. 9- Tighten down side mounting nuts and center acorn nuts. Note 1: If mounting on drywall, go to your hardware store and spend a few bucks on a set of better quality drywall anchors and screws. While the ones they come with aren't bad, they're not that good either...no big deal, that's just bulk hardware for you. Note 2: Even though the side supports have slots to allow for some wiggle room, unfortunately our wall was a little extra bowed. To overcome this, we shimmed the center support with a custom shim made on our 3D printer. You can do the same thing by going to the hardware store and buying a thin sheet of whatever (plastic, metal, wood), cut that down (layer it if you need to), drill holes, and use that as a spacer for whichever support needs it. ... show more

I got two of these to serve as counter space in a tiny nyc studio. The larger one measures 30"x18" and the smaller (on the back) is (16"x10"). Both were purchased refurbished, and arrived in a perfect condition. The shelves are heavy and sturdy, make sure you screw this into studs. Remarks: - Cleaning this with water and soap leaves unappealing residue, this is easily fixed with a glass cleaner (ie Windex). - The brand sticker leaves a very difficult to remove glue mark. - One of the shelves came without screws and nuts (which are M6 btw) required for assembly. - Assembly instructions suggest holding a half assembled fixture against the wall to trace the drill holes. While this approach works with the smaller shelf, good luck doing this with the bulkier shelf. ... show more

I have a very small kitchen area so I have had to get creative. This a 100+ yo house redo. I will have one more of these over the stove for my multi-purpose oven. I didn't want to take up space in the eating area so this is an excellent alternative.
