I needed to replace a diverter tub spout because water was leaking heavily from it when in shower mode, wasting water and causing a loss of water pressure at the shower head. Many people reviewing diverter tub spouts on Amazon and the major hardware store chains note that the cheap parts sold at local hardware stores are often poor quality, poor fit, leak badly, and fail prematurely. Consequently, I decided to pay a little more and order this one. It proved relatively easy to install this slip-on style spout. It feels high quality and works well. I like that there's a rubber gasket at the bottom of the pull tab so that when it drops back down it does so quietly. It's not a big deal, but lends a sense of quality to the product. The diverter seal isn't perfect, so there's still some dripping when in shower mode, but it seems normal. In subsequent research, I discovered that if you have non-threaded copper pipe and need to use a slip-on type tub spout diverter, it may be best to check out the Moen 3931 Tub Diverter Spout, Chrome. It features a "yoke" that clamps around the copper pipe instead of just driving a screw into the pipe to hold it in place. It also has a patented "cup washer" in the nose of the diverter, which is supposed enable it to seal much more effectively in shower mode, supposedly eliminating drips, leaks, and loss of pressure. It is, however, slightly more expensive, and whereas this American Standard spout is metal, the Moen is chromed plastic. ... show more

Looks nice, durable-seeming construction, installed onto a slip-on copper pipe very easily and secured WITH A HEX KEY easily and firmly. That "hex key" bit is in caps because it's very important. A conventional screw is an extremely dumb design for an item like this (because you can't get a straight shot at it from underneath). There is another manufacturer that shall be nameless (<*cough*Danco*cough*>) that actually uses a Philips-head screw to secure the adapter. But this one doesn't. The diverter works fine and there is no leakage. (Be 100% sure you sand down your copper pipe before installation, as even a tiny little burr can wreck your O-ring and cause wall damage. Do not skimp on this step!) I'm only giving it four stars because the water comes out a little sloppy. This is still very much good value for money! If you want a nice, pretty, smooth stream of water coming out of the fixture, you're going to want to blow $50 or more on a higher-level Moen or equivalent. If you want an inexpensive tub spout that gets the job done, this is your product. ... show more

The tub spout looks solid and the polished chrome finish is nice. It feels like a good quality product and matches the bathroom well. However, the installation was more difficult than expected. The slip-on design sounded simple, but getting it aligned and tightened properly took more time and effort than I thought. Works like a charm. Replaced a tub spout that cost 5x as much as this and had failed in less than 5 years by not diverting water properly to the showerhead. Very simple design. Do ensure you need a slip on spout. You need 1.5 to 2.5 inches of copper pipe stub from the face of the tile for this so you have a decent margin.
