  • Excellent Tab With Certain Modifications
I was initially reticent to receive this tablet because I'd read reviews when it was released; but my wife actually purchased the Fire Tab on Prime day, at a significantly reduced price, without knowing what I knew. Admittedy, when I set up the tablet and started to use it, I did not like it. I had formerly used a Samsung tab, and its battery-life notwithstanding, I was very happy with its picture, screen and functionality. The Fire tab differed from my Samsung in that all the apps fitted on one "home" screen and the apps were Amazon-centric. I couldn't load YouTube TV or GMail or any of my other Google-based apps. I started by watching YouTube TV through the Silk browser and accessing GMail through their (Amazon's) workaround GMail app, which was limited in functionality. Those first weeks were frustrating to say the least. Eventually, I found a six-step process to load Google services and the Google store on the Fire tab; this allowed me to download all of the apps I wanted and had used without issue on my Samsung. I would highly encourage anyone whose situation mirrors my own to take this action...It will improve your experience on the Fire tab exponentially. As for the ads, which again, my wife had opted for without consulting with me first, I don't notice them; they are incidental and do not affect my experience at all. I'm sure, if you were to research how to remove them, there is a way. All that aside, the picture and sound is very good, and the Fire's battery life is entirely better than my Samsung's. But to be honest, I didn't need this tab and it's not such an improvement on my old one that I would endorse it's purchase (if you have a functional, 10" tab already). I did buy a slimline, bluetooth keyboard after the fact, and I like the idea of it if not it's actual functionality. The keyboard is as wide as the Fire tab, so the keys are a fraction closer than on a full-size keyboard, which creates some problems as you can imagine. Still, it's an easy way to type passwords, etc. On the subject of passwords, I am frustrated with the Fire's seeming inability to auto-fill; my Samsung always auto-filled email and mailing addresses, and on the Fire, I am constantly typing those in their entirety. Maybe there's a setting, but I haven't found it yet. All in all, I would say if you are in the market for a 10" tab, you could definitely do worse than the Fire, but my endorsement comes with the proviso that if you are a regular Google app user, a "hack" is in order to make this a worthwhile purchase. Outside of loading the Google store, and my regular email and TV apps, I have not tried to download Chrome yet, so I don't know if it would be problematic or not. A very good tablet for the price... ... show more

  • Kindle Fire Tablets are for all ages and all walks of life! Highly Recommended!
This is my 3rd Kindle Fire since 2012. The storage on this one is phenomenal! My previous one had very little storage and I had to keep Uninstalling apps, books, etc. Now I have all my apps and there is still room to spare! I know you can always expand storage with SD cards but not having to mess around with that is simpler for me. The touch screen is very responsive not to mention the visual quality! Better than some tvs and pc monitors! Battery life is also another huge perk! I find myself needing to charge the Kindle Fire every 2-3 days! This is with moderate game play, a video call or two, watching a few movies (or shows) and reading books. On top of utilizing it as a planner! Another major perk is the portability and internet access. This was a selling point for my mother in law! I am able to take this with me to dr appts. Not only for entertainment while waiting in the lobby but you can access your patient portals and share things like Visit summary notes from other drs, test results, etc! This feature has come in handy many times! You can even conduct televisits with wifi access! There are so many features I haven't even touched on! If you wanted to monitor your own screen time or even have children and need parental controls. You can monitor usage, device content, and so much more! One time my daughter took hers to school without permission and my husband was able to locate it and lock it from home. You can also set off an alarm! I highly recommend! • Amazing Kindle
Love my Kindle. Its light enough I take it everywhere with me. The value of the kindle is very good for the things you can do other than reading. The touchscreen make everything simple. I love to read on. There is an option for you to change the font size on the books for this who have bad eyesight.

  • Great tablet with one drawback
Ok so I had given my older tablet to my granddaughter and needed a new tablet really just to take on trips. This tablet is nice with great video quality and I downloaded some things to watch on a long plane ride and that works great. Most importantly the price is right, except….. when I needed to go on the American Airlines app to watch some other content I couldn’t because fire tablets are not compatible with their inflight entertainment- maybe the whole app and it can’t be done via wifi- it has to be done through their app. Even after we landed from the first leg and my son tried the workaround to get Google playstore it still ended up giving me the same notice that it was incompatible with the AA app. I’m not sure exactly why they would have that limitation but they do. (Well, I have some ideas why but I will leave it at that). So, I gave the tablet to my other granddaughter and bought an ipad. So in my quest to save money, it ended up costing me more. There’s a lesson in there I’m sure. Now, that is not a deal killer if you are in the market for an inexpensive tablet that does, for the most part, have great functionality, but for someone who travels a little and has a tablet for that function specifically, this might not be the tablet for you. At the end of the day, my granddaughter needed a new tablet anyway. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that for me, that functionality was the exact reason I bought it in the first place. ... show more

  • This is not the product I expected.
I like the size of the tablet, ease of use and the price. However, the last several months I have had nothing but problems with it. Everytime my husband and I want to play a game, for instance, we keep getting pop-up screens and it is annoying and we can't get out of them. We even took it to Best Buy Geek Squad for their help, and they said they couldn't stop the pop-up screens either. I would like my money back and do not want another tablet like this. Thank you. ... show more
