  • Practicality over compactness
Number of Items: 1
Heads-up for Potential Buyers of This Bundle: Be mindful not to accidentally throw away the USB transmitter with the packaging. Instead of being stored inside the mouse or keyboard, the transmitter is attached to a small cardboard fold within the larger package, making it easy to overlook. That said, my Amazon Basics Keyboard and Mouse Bundle Review: The key presses feel smooth, almost like velvet. There's a slight resistance at the start, but it softens quickly with a bit more pressure, making it effortless to press down. It’s neither clumsy nor stiff. The spacing between the keys is well-designed. They're not cramped together, so you can easily feel the gaps, reducing typing errors and accidental multi-key presses. A standout feature of this keyboard is the inclusion of extra function keys, more than what most competitors offer. As a designer, I prefer a full-sized keyboard over compact versions that combine multiple functions into one key. I appreciate easily accessible, clearly labeled keys that don’t require extra steps to use. This keyboard meets those needs better than any other I’ve researched. It comes with four AAA batteries. One minor drawback is that it's easy to accidentally throw away the USB transmitter with the packaging. Instead of being stored inside the mouse or keyboard, the transmitter is attached to a small cardboard fold inside the larger package, making it easy to miss. The mouse, however, is compact. Personally, I don’t like small mice, since I work with design software like Illustrator and need a good grip. That said, I understand some people prefer smaller mice for portability. I do find it odd that a mini mouse is paired with a full-sized keyboard. Overall, this product maintains the quality you'd expect from one of the world’s largest companies. The materials, construction, and feel are all solid. I recommend this keyboard for designers and anyone who values practicality over compactness. ... show more

  • Beware, this product is unreliable
Number of Items: 1
I see that most reviewers are happy with this keyboard / mouse package. I guess they are just lucky. For me, it has not been reliable. Keyboard strokes are occasionally dropped (the character pressed does not register on screen). If I'm watching the screen while typing, I sometimes have to repeatedly bang on the same key until it shows up on the screen. If I'm typing fast and not paying attention to the screen, then look back at what I've typed, there will often be missing characters. (No, it is not a problem with my USB ports, nor is it a problem with distance to the USB dongle. The KB / mouse are less than 3' away from the PC.) The optical mouse has similar problems. Sometimes it does not pick up on mouse movements or clicks. Keep trying though, and it usually will eventually do what you expect. That is, until today. The mouse suddenly stopped working completely, and now does not respond at all to either clicks or mouse movement. I did the usual troubleshooting (reinstalling batteries, turning on/off switch off and back on, reinserting the USB dongle) all repeatedly, to no avail. I had to go dig up an old wired mouse in a box of old computer gear just in order to get my PC out of its unresponsive state. Although many reviewers did not have such problems, I see that there are a few others who have had somewhat similar issues with the keyboard and/or mouse not responding or not behaving correctly. So I have to conclude that while you might get lucky and get a "good one", there are a sizeable percentage of lemons in the mix. I would attribute that to it being a poor design, and/or poor quality control in the manufacturing process. If you buy one of these, then good luck to you. Unfortunately, for me, it is long past the return period (I bought it about 6 months ago). I should have returned it when I first started noticing the flaky behavior which happened occasionally shortly after I bought it. But it was functioning adequately, although not perfectly, so I just tolerated it. Now it's become intolerable and it makes me mad every time I try to use it, so I'm out $28 and I'll have to chuck it in the trash. ... show more

  • Not the worse keyboard I've used....
Number of Items: 1
I like the feel of the keys and the "travel" is short so it doesn't take a lot of force for keys to register. It's a 'full' keyboard layout so has an inverted T for cursor arrows and a full numeric keypad and a complete set of dedicate (not shared use) function keys. There was a sticky key on the first keyboard I had so when I did a return Amazon instantly sent a replacement telling me to just keep the first one. Seriously, the replacement was here the next day. To me, that is excellent support. I am not a touch typist so my right thumb usually hits the space bar when required. It's a nice long spacebar but frequently does not register because I hit the right end of the spacebar. My biggest problem with this keyboard is there are no lights or other indications when the caps lock, num lock, or scroll locks are activated. Too often I hit caps lock and I don't notice since I am looking at the keyboard, not the monitor. The best workaround I found for this was an open source (free) caps lock indicator app that puts a light up on the monitor when any of the three key is active. Again, I won't normally see that until I look up at the monitor. The better solution would be an led on the keyboard. I DO like that there are separate audio control keys. These are not linked to a function key so they work independently. It's easy to quickly mute sound when a site surprises with loud sound. Overall, not the worse keyboard I've used, but not the best either. The mouse? I put it in a drawer. It frequently did not move the cursor and did not have variable sensitivity control. Like the keyboard, not the worse mouse I've ever used.... ... show more
