Pretty basic like crayons. Would certainly not recommend them for an artist. Good for a kid to just doodle, that’s about it.

this is a good choice for anyone looking to explore oil pastels. the set includes a broad array of colors and they are easy to use. the colors themselves are nice and vibrant but can be difficult to apply smoothly. my daughter loves to do any type of art and really liked the results from this set. the oil pastel crayons are easy for her to hold and the triangle design minimizes rolling. the storage tray is convenient for keeping them organized and works okay for that but could be a bit sturdier. overall I'm happy with them.

Oil and water don't mix so I bought these for doing paintings with oil pastels and water colors. I like to use a variety of colors and this larger variety pack was better than the 12 pack that I often use with kids. We made basic pictures and also went over smudging as a blending technique. I have not tried "washing" these so I don't how accurate the advertisement for that is. But, the pastels stay in the box nicely as long as the box is kept flat, the paper rips off and the rest of the pastel can be used. How long these last depends on how you store them (low humidity and temperature) as well as how often you use them. I would say these were a good deal and the Amazon Basics brand is pretty consistent (thus far) with beginner level supplies.

Amazon Basics Washable Oil Pastels Crayon Set, 36 Colors First impressions: Nicely sized sticks of oil pastel. The variety of colors is nice, if a bit bright. There is little to no odor, just when you are very close. Installation/setup: Use to draw, sketch, etc. on paper or canvas. Final thoughts: The pastels are brightly colored and smudge together well using just my finger. They do stain the paper but wash off skin easily. The pigment is carried in an odd oil media that does tend to clump a bit and doesn’t want to cover easily. I have used oil pastels in several ways in the past. One uses quite a bit of the pastel, covering the paper thickly and blending together. Another common way is to vary the thickness of the coverage, showing the stained paper underneath at times. I have also used them with a solvent to help with coverage and blending. I believe these will work best using a paper stump to control the application of color. All in all, a nice set that beginners or even someone with experience will enjoy. I like this and I’m glad I got it. ⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend.
