It’s a solidly built case. I found the partially perforated foam, divided into 1/2 inch segments to be too much, too thick. It’s difficult to leave a partition one segment thick because the segments tend to break, and two segments is an inch thick. I am took out the bottom piece of foam, 1 inch thick non-perforated and filleted it in half to be a 1/2 inch thick so that a short telephoto lens can be put in standing up. Other than the annoying foam, which I may replace someday, it seems very solid. Thick plastic, good wheels and handles. As others have said, the opens for padlocks aren’t metal reinforced, but it’s good enough for me. One more complaint is that the feet on the back of the case catch on the lip of steps when trying to roll the case up & down steps. I can see them getting mangled pretty quickly vs concrete steps.

I wanted a case for an Auber PID, (an external thermostat) for my smoker. I had been storing it outside, unprotected, in an outdoor kitchen area. I wanted to make sure it was protected from the weather, moisture, dirt and dust. I thought about getting a Pelican Case from Amazon, but the size was just off and the next size up was too pricey. After researching it on Amazon, I found that Amazon Basics had a very similar case that was just the right size. When I received it, I was surprised and very pleased at how easy it was to pick away the pre-cut foam to get a custom fit. There is also a second piece of foam if it is necessary, which in my case, it wasn't. I can't compare this case to a Pelican because I've never owned one. I realize they are considered the Mercedes of this category, but if your needs are more basic, as were mine, this is an ideal way to protect small electronics with a hard plastic case that shuts super tight in order to keep out the elements. I think this case is a great value and a very well designed product. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again!

Four Stars but… The case is a close replica of a Pelican case, a well build plastic transport case to protect whatever you choose. However, there are some notable deviations from a Pelican case. (1) First, and I think this is a big issue, the case does not stand vertically. The case is engineered to lay flat however when the case is put down vertically ( with the handle up), it stands at an angle and is not steady. The problem is, unlike the Pelican, the hinges touch the floor and the case sits on them unevenly. There is no additional support to keep the case upright. (2) The foam in the lid is not glued to the top of the case. A minor annoyance when opening the case – the foam falls out. (3) When I received the case, the foam had a very strong organic solvent smell (acetone?). After leaving the case open for a day , the smell has nearly gone. (4) The latches have a slightly different locking method compared to the Pelican. They are not as solidly built. (5) The is no metal reinforcement of the holes that accept locks. This case has holes for the locks but they are just holes in the plastic. Other than these exceptions, the case is a good sub for a Pelican, at a fraction of the cost. The case will probably not perform as a Pelican roughly handled during repeated travel but I suspect it will be fine for protection during storage. All in all, it is a value for the price, perfectly suited for storage or light travel.

Update 11/30/17. Dropped the the rating to 3 stars due to the royal PIA getting a lock to fit on the case has turned out to be. The lock holes are too close to the side wall of the latch and make it very hard to get the lock body to fit. The case itself is great, but since I need to lock this quickly and easily for airline travel, it has become a hassle to use. This is a great hard sided travel case which I will be using for transporting my firearms when traveling. Its every bit as strong as a Pelican. Not sure why others have indicated it is not. I bought the small size and it easily fits a full size pistol (CZ 75) along with mags and other items depending on how you pack the case. I would have given it 5 stars, but there is one problem. The holes used to attach a padlock are very small and too close to the case locking mechanism. This makes it very difficult to easily attach and lock using padlocks. The holes really need to be moved back a bit from the case lock. It took some time to find a lock that will work, but I have found these Master Locks to fit (with some wrangling) https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-131Q-Weatherproof-Padlock/dp/B00004Y8D4/ref=sr_1_4?s=hardware&ie=UTF8&qid=1509714886&sr=1-4&keywords=master+locks Make sure you are using a 1/4" / 6mm diameter shank. Anything larger will not fit the holes unless you drill them out a bit. Due to the proximity of the locking holes to the case lock, locks differing in size to the Master Locks I linked too, the body of other padlocks may be too large to allow them to lock. This small but very important design detail is a big deal and keeps it from getting 5 stars. There are similar sized and priced Pelican cases (they are a bit smaller), that may not have the issue with fitting padlocks. For the price, the quality and size of this case cannot be beat. Update 11/6/17: For those of you that have a Harbor Freight nearby, you can buy almost exactly the same case with better padlock mounts for $29. If you have a HB coupon, you can get it for less. Just happened to see the HB cases over the weekend.

Used this for a trip over to the UK, worked great solid case for the price. The clamps are not as user friendly as my pelican cases but for the price and durability I'll live with them.
