  • What a NICE Surprise
I admit it, I have been on a quest to find the perfect camera backpack for a long time. I've purchased quite a few over the years and have never found just what I want. They either to small to big, don't have enough camera room or not enough space for essentials. Won't work for both hiking and day use. It is a challenge. I have a few necessary requirements - it must have side access, it must be a two strap backpack, not slings and not be so big you knock people over in public places. Found this Amazon Basics backpack by accident while searching for something else. They had some for sale that had been returned to the warehouse so after reading the many reviews and a couple of videos, I said why not - it was under $40. I'm really pleased with the camera section. I can easily put by Nikon Z6ii with a 24-200 zoom including lens hood (in travel position) on one side of the pack. Used the long divider going from top to botton and then used the other two dividers for the other side. This creates 3 sections where you can put two lens (Nikon Z 50mm S and Nikon Z 24-70 S) on the outside sections and in the middle my Nikon travel binoculars. In addiiton, there is room enough to put the rain hood next to one of the lens without craming them together. Two pictures of this setup are attached to this review. The main compartment is big, especially with the roll top feature and fits down close to the pack when not in use to reduce the form factor. A rain jacket fits nicely, I suspect a medium weight fleece and some gloves will also fit. The two front pockets work well for misc items, my only complaint is that these pocket don't have mesh storage areas and there is no key holder. Laptop section holds a regular ipad no problem and will hold my Therm-a-Rest Z-Seat Pad for when I take the bag on a hike. Have taken this backpack on several short hikes - 3 to 5 miles and it really is comfortable with all the equipment described above plus a 1 liter water bottle and some snacks. Construction of the bag seems to be way above what I have had with other Amazon Basic camera bags. Zippers are of good quality and padding works as it should. Long ago I concluded no one can make the perfect camera backpack but this one of the better bags I've used. Hope that it is durable and that I feel this good about it in a couple of years. ... show more

  • Great alternative to more-expensive hybrid camera bags!
The media could not be loaded. I was in the market for a travel backpack that would offer camera bag-level protection for my camera and maybe an extra lens, but also one with a dedicated laptop compartment, and space for books, chargers, and everything else I pack in my bag. I also didn’t want to spend over $100, so that ruled out packs like the ones from Peak Design and others that looked awesome for my needs, but would put me back $200-$300. This one, while not perfect, does the trick for way less money. In my little review video I show how I typically pack it (though I forgot to show the smaller pocket on the front, where I keep my phone charger, earbuds, and various other small things), but I will try to summarize my thoughts: Pros: - Versatility. I travel with my camera, but I don’t want an entire bag built around camera gear. Not mentioned in the video is that the divider between the camera compartment and the top section is secured with velcro, and can be removed to create a single-compartment bag. I have not personally done this, but I have definitely taken advantage of the expandability of the top section for stuffing in a jacket in the afternoon when it warms up, or bringing along a blanket to the park. I also love the laptop sleeve, and the side access zipper is a great feature, especially for airport security, so you don’t have to unbuckle and unzip the top to get your computer out. - Quality. It’s well-built and the materials feel nice. - Price Your mileage may vary - Orange interior material. This is a matter of function over aesthetics. It looks kind of ugly imo, but I’m confident I will never lose anything in this bag, the contrast is real! - Comfort. I took this on a trip to the UK, and carried it with my on a few long, 10+ mile walking days. I left my laptop at the hotel to save me a few pounds, and I’m glad I did. I don’t think any backpack is going to feel amazing to wear all day, and though I don’t have much to compare to, I would guess this one is middle of the road in terms of comfort. I remember how bad my feet hurt much more than my shoulders. Cons - Lack of pockets in the top compartment. It’s hard to organize your stuff if you have many small items. The exterior zippered pouches help with this some, but I would have liked some more options. - The water bottle pouches on the sides are a bit tight, and would be hard-pressed to fit wider bottles (e.g. 32oz Nalgene) Overall, if you travel with a camera and a laptop and other items, and are looking for a budget-friendly backpack, this is one to check out! ... show more

  • Love it!
This holds my DJI drone (in a drone bag with its extras), Nikon DSLR, DJI Osmo pocket, laptop, iPad, child’s kindle and accessories for my cameras and still room for other stuff on the inside along with my tripod on the front! So much room in this bag and easy access to everything!

  • Comfortable and durable - great quality and value!
My son loves this bag! He uses it as his hs book and laptop bag, his camera gig bag and an everyday bag for traveling around town. He described all the pockets as “a bit over engineered” but this bag has space for everything you can think of and more, plus it is incredibly high quality for the price! This bag will LAST and it is comfortable and padded enough to wear with heavy gear or books inside for long periods. Truly impressed with the quality! ... show more

  • Good padding
Great padding for a camera, a little strange backpack shape, but it works and is a good price.

  • worth the price
I am just getting into photography, wanted a backpack that would work when I am traveling. Paid $36 for the Amazon warehouse, which came in practically new. Worth every penny.

  • Great backpack
Amazon basic hall made such a good product. With the affordable price it is a great travel companion. I could fit my DSLR and point and shoot all in this backpack. The top compartment is also great, I use it to put changing cloth. This backpack is all you need for travel.
