  • Phenomenal for the price
Size: 55lb x 2pcs
Very well designed. Adjusting weights is easy and the increments are very great for steady progression in isolations especially. Only gripe is the wobbliness when trying to rerack. Amazing for under $300 set.

  • Very large, but nice and ultimately space-saving dumbbells
Size: 55lb x 2pcs
This set of two Amazon Basics adjustable dumbbells is a great replacement for an entire rack of fixed-weight dumbbells. It's pretty compact and gives you a nice range from 5 - 55 lbs. This should more than cover the needs of most lifters. The set will fit easily in smaller spaces, like big city apartments for example. So far it's worked quite well - just a quick twist of the handles gives you the desired weight and you're good to go. It's design leans much more towards function than aesthetics. It's a bit clunky looking and contains a fair amount of plastic, so I see those as minor drawbacks, but it definitely gets the job done. The grip is good too. Be aware though, the individual units are large and take a little getting used to over standard hex dumbbells. Overall, at around $289.00 (at the time of this review) I think these weights are a nice value. A set of comparable single dumbbells would easily cost double or triple that. One thing to note: If you order the set of two, they arrive in one box which weights 110 lbs! Plan ahead for dealing with delivery. ... show more

  • Happy Husband for the Win
Size: 55lb x 2pcs
When we received this set of 55 pound adjustable dumbbells, the came in a single (very heavy) box. The packaging was very secure, but that makes for a hard to move box, so we ended up opening it on the porch so my husband could carry the dumbbells in separately rather than trying to move the whole thing at once. These are a major space and money saver compared to buying an entire rack of fixed-weight dumbbells. I already have a lighter set that tops out at 25 lbs (perfect for me, most of the time), but I ordered this adjustable set for my husband. When I told him about the order, he was skeptical and said, “I’ll give ’em a try.” After a couple of workouts, I asked what he thought and he said, “I love ’em.” So that’s a win. The dumbbells feel sturdy and of decent quality. There is some plastic involved, so time will tell how well that holds up with regular use. The adjustment mechanism works smoothly, andyou can turn the dial in either direction to set your desired weight. At first, I was worried the plates might not lock in securely because the mechanism moves so easily, but they only adjust when the dumbbell is securely docked in its base, so there’s no risk of plates flying off during use. These things are big and a bit bulky, but the design is clever. It uses a combination of different-sized plates to offer a variety of weight increments. Some of the jumps between weights, especially on the lower end, are a bit large. Another review mentioned a jump from 12.5 to 17.5. When you're working at that weight, that can feel like a big jump. Fortunately I already have the previously mentioned set so I have a 15 lb dumbbell that works quite nicely in there. BUT my set jumps from 15 to 20, so now I can fill THAT gap with this 17.5 So even though this set is FOR the husband, I can see me borrowing it from time to time. I still use my lighter weights, but this adjustable set fills some gaps and goes way beyond for heavier lifts. Overall, they’re not the sleekest-looking weights, but they get the job done, and for the price and space saved, it’s a solid trade-off. Most importantly, my husband loves them. And if he’s happy with them, I’m happy too. *Disclaimer: This review is part of Amazon's Vine Program which provides products at no upfront cost in exchange for honest and unbiased reviews. • Unsafe- Weights stick and fall on their own
Size: 55lb x 2pcs
The media could not be loaded. UNSAFE DESIGN FLAW These weights seem well constructed and durable. They do not have the ease of transitioning between weights that you see on the $800 comparisons, but they are one quarter the price, so that's excusable. What is not excusable is the unsafe sticking of weights. Since owning these for 2 weeks, weights that should not be lifted with the selected amount will stick for a time on the handle. They then fall free when the tension is overcome by the weight. So for instance, if you transition from 45 lb to 40, it may continue to lift the plates necessary for the 45 in addition to the plates for the 40. This means you're lifting More weight than you think you are and then those extra plates fall off. This happens because there is a little bit of Play in the selector notch for each weight. For instance the weight clicks at 50 lb but it isn't fully in the 50 lb slot. If this is the case, it will lift all the weights up. Likewise if you're on the 10 lb and lift after the click but it hasn't fully rotated yet, it will lift an extra bit of weight. You can see in my video, the base actually gets stuck along with the other plates. With a slight shake, the base and the extra plates fall off. Obviously, if the base is coming up, you know that something is wrong. However, it's much harder to catch if a 2.5 lb plate has erroneously been lifted and will fall out during your exercise. Somebody is going to have a plate fall out and hit them on the face or foot and somebody's going to get very hurt. I was hoping this would get better with the two weeks of use, and it does happen less. But it still happens regularly. The video above that shows the problem was recorded after 2 weeks of using it. That said, if you are very careful with the weights and not lifting up until you have double-checked that the weight is lined up with the line, they seem to work just fine. But this design is fundamentally flawed if you have to be so careful to not have falling free weights because the handle has too much play. Other notes- these are really compact and much easier to use than my power block. They do have a strong plastic smell, but that doesn't really bother me. If these didn't have the sticking problem, which is a major safety hazard, these would be a four or five star. ... show more
