This 26" Acacia Wood Planter looks absolutely gorgeous! Unfortunately that is the very last good thing I have to say about it. While this planter looks astounding, there are other things about this planter that are equally astounding if not more so. The planter is manufactured by stapling vertical wooden slats to two rectangular wooden frames. The upper wooden frame has two cross members which along with the ends form the supporting frames for the three plastic inserts. The lower rectangular frame has about 6 cross members evenly spaced to provide structural support. all of these pieces comprising the frames and cross members are notably thin, and for my intended use, I had to invest a lot of time and effort into beefing up the product so it would last for years. I started by purchasing Square 1/2"x 12" Poplar dowels and rough cut and sanded them to size and added an inch of support under each of the middle upper cross members and a half inch of support under each of the ends of the upper rectangular frame and on top of the ends of the lower rectangular frame, so the full weight of my cherry tomato plants, trellises (3 lbs each), soil, and water could be fully supported without any risk of a catastrophic collapse. This planter HAS NO FEET and the end grain of the outer vertical slats sit directly on the surface you set it on. IT WILL WICK UP ANY WATER THAT PUDDLES AROUND OR UNDER IT (especially if you opted to remove the plugs from the plastic inserts to provide adequate drainage to prevent over-watering) I drilled tiny pilot holes and tacked furniture slider feet onto the four corners and the middle of each of the long sides to permit water to flow under it without risk of wicking up and deteriorating the wood. Since I rent and my patio entrance faces North-Northwest and only gets about two hours of good direct sunlight daily; I purchased a 50 watt (300 watt equivalent) LED Grow light and an outdoor use thermally controlled outlet timer which can be set to function for 10 hours on and 14 hours off and run this cycle indefinitely so my cherry tomatoes (3 each Burpee Baby Boomer Hybrid) will fruit and will be mounting it atop the trellises. My Sprite Melons (3 each), and my Melon, Mango-Hybrid (3 each) will be trained down onto the ground towards the Air Conditioning unit and will receive more than enough sun because they'll be out from under the roof. Truth be told - I recommend this planter, but I HIGHLY recommend you do some minor modifications to make it last! The planter is visually appealing but after a few days it came apart. I’ve tried reinforcing the slats with wood glue and reattached several that fell off but a day or two later the slats are off again.
