  • Excellent value for a portable 350W AC-powered PA speaker
Size: 8" PA Speaker Style: PA Speaker
The AltoTX408 is an excellent value for my application where I use it when teaching a twice per week exercise class in a covered open air pavilion for up to 30 students. This PA speaker uses the same type of hefty 3 prong detachable power cord used for PCs. Note that this unit is AC powered only and does not have a rechargeable battery. Pros: quality and durable materials and construction, has 1/4" or XLR mic inputs that can be set for mic or line-level inputs, 350W is more than enough power for an open air facility (volume set at 1/5 of full volume is more than sufficient), 2-way speaker provides clear and distortion=free voice quality audio, easy one-button bluetooth pairing, separate level adjustments to mix mic/line-level and bluetooth, XLR output for mixed mic/line-level and bluetooth output to connect to a second speaker if needed, has built in carrying handle. Cons: built in speaker stand mount hole is 36mm which is slightly larger than standard 35mm stands, but this can be easily corrected by wrapping the stand mount with 1mm of duct tape for a snug fit. ... show more

  • Outstanding value, great build quality, very good sound
Size: 8" PA Speaker Style: PA Speaker
I bought a pair of the ALTO TX408s for a small band practice space specifically to amplify vocals and keyboards, and they’re perfect for that application. Having Bluetooth is also rad; one of my bands is a cover band so being able to reference some of our songs wirelessly is super useful. I’ve used other ALTO speakers in various applications for 15 years, and I’ve always been impressed with their sound, power, and durability, especially considering the price point. I wouldn’t use anything smaller than a 12” speaker for a real PA/front of house situation (maybe with subs present, but only for a small room), but ALTO’s larger offerings are more than up to the task. The 408s are also a legit option for bedroom producers/DJs looking to get a lot of volume for a relatively low cost (I would still recommend getting a powered subwoofer, at least 12”, to complement them). Overall, these are a ridiculously good value for a very pliable and good-enough-for-most-situations powered speaker. ... show more

  • Punches above its weight!
Size: 8" PA Speaker Style: PA Speaker
I’m surprised! For how small the speaker is it can fill a room indoors just fine. It is not something that I would use for a major event. But it’s not made for that. I initially was intending to use it for my personal monitor as I am a professional DJ, but I have used this in ceremonies and cocktail hours. I haven’t had a chance to use this for a karaoke event but vocals sound clean and undistorted. Two of them will handle a backyard dance party, just bring a small sub. No need to bring your big guns, the cops will be there at 10:00 pm, lol! It kicks in this regard. Clean sound. Indoors you will need to watch your levels because they’re louder than you think. Outdoors go full gate. Bluetooth works great. It does feel a little too light and the build quality seems flimsy...I wouldn’t feel like it would handle a drop, but that’s why you need a good case for traveling. Get one when you’re ordering it. It would be nice for an analog input to be included but you just get some adapters for that. It’s not everything for everyone, and the 8” speaker market is competitive right now. But for the price point, small form factor makes it cool with me. I have other Alto products and I am pleased with them. Good job guys! ... show more

  • Light Weight and plenty of power!
Size: 8" PA Speaker Style: PA Speaker
I have a regular gig and have been using a pair of Kustom PW50's as 'stage-fill' speakers paired with a sub that is on the stage (we patch into the restraurant speaker system, so we only need a little volume on/around the stage). They have worked well for 3 years. I felt like it was time to get something with a bigger woofer and a more directional HF section, but don't want to spend a lot because the venue has indicated that they are going to hang up some speakers for us (finally).. I picked up a pair of these on sale, and for the money, wasn't expecting too much. Boy was I surprised. First, by how incredibly light these are. I picked up the box one shipped in and wondered if they had forgotten the speaker - they really are THAT light. Immediately plugged them both in, paired Bluetooth and linked the two speakers together (without looking at the manual, they are that easy to use). Sound was good, had plenty of volume for an at-home test, but with the phone volume all the way up they got a little brittle sounding, so I was concerned about how they'd perform with live material going through them. Took them to the venue and patched them in and was immediately pleased - I used an X32 rack console at the venue and already had a feed set up for the PW50's. I flattened out the EQ, adjusted the crossover point on the send (to a much lower frequency, I had to cut the PW50s pretty much to just high mids/highs) and started the night. A few minor EQ tweaks as we got warmed up and really rockin' and they sound good! I'm not fooling myself in thinking that they sound like big-boy professional speakers, but our blend was fuller and more clear than it has been in a while. For the money, which is not at all a whole lot, these are a simple 'yes' - if you have physical issues with handling heavier speakers and just need a small system for backyard parties/inside acoustic gigs, these will work fine. They are simple devices, but they work. For a guitar player wanting to go stereo with a modeller this would make an easy inexpensive solution to get you a decent sound and volume for next to nothing. ... show more

  • Good clear sounding and effectively loud.
Size: 10" PA Speaker Style: modern minimalist
Not bad. Sounds incredibly clear. Bass response is ok. Bass response is better indoors. Outdoors its non existent- to be expected. Indoors, overall sound is pretty good. Clear distinctions in frequencies. This unit does get loud. Sound travels well, especially the upper mids and highs. I have not noticed any cracking or clipping in the sound. I have not pushed this past half volume because its decently loud at half volume. Any more past half volume i think i would get noise complaints. Bluetooth works great. No issues with pairing bluetooth. This is a good speaker. Build quality is decent. Doesn’t feel industrial but decent for hauling in the trunk of a car. The size is nice. The look is nice. Not bad for this price and functionality and sound quality you get. This can definitely blast sound clearly at high volume, albeit with a mid range bass reflex but not bad, especially indoors. ... show more

  • Smart purchase glad I bought it.
Size: 10" PA Speaker Style: modern minimalist
Made the perfect monitor for my DJ Gear. Very clear I can put it on the floor and it gives me just a nervous sound to do my mixes. Definitely a speaker you can buy with confidence is small very light inconvenient. I haven’t used the Bluetooth feature, but I’m sure that’s also a plus.

  • Only ONE input
Size: 10" PA Speaker Style: modern minimalist
I bought this on the recommendation of some of my colleagues who had purchased Alto products and said they were good quality for the price. I read the description, looked at the pictures, and saw it was 2 channel. The picture even showed the 2 channels summing into the XLR output for daisy-chaining. Since one of my intended uses was a vocal mic in one channel and an acoustic guitar in the other, I went for this over lower-priced competition which clearly had exactly what I wanted. Got this to find…it has ONE input. It’s a combo XLR/1/4” jack. “Channel 2” refers to the Bluetooth connection. That’s it. No way to plug in two inputs. You can’t even cheat and try to plug both a 1/4 and XLR into the same channel at the same time , it’s a combo jack. Now my primary use was going to be as a stage monitor, so I will keep this despite my great frustration at its misrepresentation. So with that in mind: The speaker appears reasonably robust, it’s not too lightweight. Sound quality is decent via Bluetooth. Not a ton of usable bass through it, it’s likely not going to be suitable if I want to use it as a bass (guitar) monitor. The power output is typical of the hyper-inflated claims of all units these days. To my ear, it’s more like a traditional 50 watt amp/speaker setup. There’s a switch to select either flat response (e.g. as a floor monitor) or a contour with boosted bass and treble. The one input is selectable as mic or line level. I tried it with a cardioid mic and it’s got plenty of gain with decent sound. Note, there’s no phantom power option. Note also that the included power cable is only 6 feet long but since it’s a standard IEC connection, longer power cables are readily available (and a much cleaner approach than using extension cords IMHO ). In summary, therefore: if this had a true 2 channel XLR inputs, it would’ve definitely gotten a full 5 star rating from me. As is…disappointing. ... show more
