I got this yesterday and am sending it back immediately. The design of this lid has changed from the photos shown on the Amazon listing and on the manufacturer's website. The lid is extremely difficult to thread onto the cup. You almost have to be the Six Million Dollar Man to remove or install the lid. I had to slide the cover latch open and use it as a lever to actually screw the lid on or off. The inside of the lid mechanism has a double ended seal gasket that can be taken apart by rotating a locking knob to the unlocked position, but when putting it back together, the gasket will either seal off the fluid so that you can't even take a drink, or if you stick your finger inside the bottom of the lid and move the gasket so it's not sealing the hole, you can drink, but then it's not leak proof when the gasket isn't in it's correct position. It will pour out with the sliding latch in the closed position. The item pictures look like a good simple design but this cup doesn't have what's shown (compare with my pictures) and is not a good design at all! Shame on Thermos engineering. It's not worth the $15 I paid for this on sale on Amazon. I had thermos cups in the past that had the best cold/heat retention of any cup I've ever had (easily 6 plus hours hot and almost 12 hours cold), but the lids weren't easy to get clean and got stinky every so often until I did a drastic lid disassembly to do cleaning. I was hoping this new Thermos cup would have more easy cleaning and also have the same hot/cold retention of the previous Thermos cup! But this new one only kept my drink hot for about 3 hours. I sip my hot tea all morning at work but this one didn't do the job. Instead, I just got two awesome Contigo Autoseal mugs that have a smart and functional design and are easy to clean. I actually bought them at a local store where I could see and touch the cup and open the lid to see how it functions and if it's easy to take apart. Great so far. ... show more

Seems like it is a nice mug, except no matter where you try and start screwing the lid on it goes into the thread in such a way that it is almost impossible to get it into a right handed position. I say almost impossible as you can force it, but then it is super hard to get the lid off later. We all tried to make the lid go on in the right handed position but it always goes into a left handed position. UPDATE: Eventually the lid loosened up enough to get it into a right handed position. This keeps my hot chocolate and tea hot for a long time. It’s not leakproof when unlocked from inside, which is needed in order to drink from the thermos. However, when locked, nothing gets out, you can’t even drink from it. Which defeats the purpose.

I bought the white version of this cup at target and I absolutely love it. The only problem with the white mug is that it’s getting dingy even though I put it in the dishwasher religiously it’s just getting a little old looking and showing some staining. So when I realized there was a black one on Amazon, I was thrilled so I bought it. Unfortunately it just doesn’t keep the drink hot. The black one has a different lid design and I can only speculate that this is the reason why the black one doesn’t keep the drinks hot at all and the white one is piping hot. With the white mug, I was able to leave this mug in the car for hours on a cold day and it would still be piping hot. I would routinely go to the gym and before I left, I would prepare my hot tea and leave it in the car for the duration of my work out so that when I got out of the gym, I would go to my car and my hot tea will be waiting for me. I drive a lot so many cases I’m in an out of the car, sipping my tea over several hours with it remaining had the whole time . With the white mug, the tea was super hot. There were times I would have to leave the drinks about open to let the heat escape to cool it down so I could drink. For the black mug I can’t even use it at home without it cooling down very quickly before I finish the drink. These two mugs are seriously night and day. I even wonder if the mug I got is defective because it’s doing such a poor job of keeping the drink hot. I can’t imagine that this is how it’s really supposed to work. Other than the fact that it doesn’t keep your drink, hot at all I do love the design of the mug, and I actually prefer the design of the lid from a taking apart and cleaning perspective to the old design, but clearly if it doesn’t keep the drink hot, then it’s pointless. So I’m bummed that it didn’t work out and I wish I knew if it was defective or just a bad design because I really would like this mug to work. ... show more
