I am a new rider, however this should not be sold as protection or at least highlight its weak spots. IF it would have listed no protection under the arms, I would have went with a product that had it. I cracked a rib wearing this product since there is no protection under the arm and I landed on my side. I bought this for protection but even for the rating there is not a star rating for protection, only Comfort, Range of Motion, and Value for money. Why would anyone buy this outside of protection. I did not look at this product and think that will be great since I want more comfort. Or range of motion or value for my money. This jacket is a joke. I got it for fathers day. I have put it on twice. Once to try it on and once to wear it riding. Sleeve has hole all the way down it from where the Velcro strap pulled the material. So much for protection. I thought by getting one at this price it would be better than the $40.00 ones on here. Good overall product. Im 5’10 200 lbs muscular build and The XL fits good, little bit snug in the chest. But as ron swanson says your torso should be thick and impenetrable. Only gripe is that the rear of the neck is a a little unfortable for me. Rubs a little. Not a big deal. Solid armor.

I've only worn it for about a month and it already started falling apart on the mesh portion of the shirt. I contacted Alpinestars customer service and they told me that it was "user wear" and so there was nothing they would do about it. It definitely helps you stay cool when it's hot while riding but there are better options out there that's worth your money instead.
