  • Overpriced
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
It's 5-ply but doesn't seem all that thick. It's a nice pan for frying fish, for example but it's very much overpriced.

Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
All Clad is a well-known brand of ciookware so I jumped at the chance to get the D5 Stainless Brushed 5-ply Bonded Cookware Set Universal Pan with lid from Vine. When it arrived, I was exceited to use it and set the one sheet of paper included, which contained a QR code, aside. I made some food and set it aside to clean it. After cleaning it, I realized there is a ring of oil residue around the halfway point on the side. Not sure I'll be able to get it off, but a small sheet of paper with proper care and handling would be appreciated. Not a piece of paper, which is probably the same size as a necessary Care and Handling Instructions sheet, which only has a QR code. Could I use the QR code to get the care and handling instructions? Yes. But why not just include it in the first place? ... show more

  • Superb!
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
Can you be in love with a pan? This is a beautiful and very functional piece of cookware. I do a lot ethnic cooking: Thai, Indian, Moroccan, etc. and often find that of the many pots and pans I have, they are slightly too small or a little too large for what I'm making. This pan fills that gap nicely, and due to the shape, can be used as a medium sauté pan for smaller amounts, while the 4.5 quart capacity lets me braise almost as much as I can in my dutch oven. It works just as well as a wok for stir-frys as it does as a regular sauté pan. I've used it to brown meat, cook chicken and sear scallops, and with a little oil, and letting the pan heat properly before adding the proteins, nothing has stuck. It's made to withstand high temperatures and can go from stovetop to oven and even under the broiler. It heats up hot, evenly and retains heat nearly, but not quite as well as my cast iron cookware, but it's not nearly as heavy and is much easier to manage when loaded with food The pan is very easy to clean and care for. A little soaking with dish detergent pretty much gets rid of anything that's baked on. For tough stains or residue, a little baking soda or barkeepers friend gets it looking good as new. Yes it's a little on the pricey side, but it's built to last and in my opinion, well worth the price. This is now one of my favorite and most-used cooking utensils and I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Gorgeous pan!
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
All-Clad's 4.5 quart D5 Stainless Brushed 5-ply Bonded Cookware Pan is one of the nicest utility pans you're going to find on the market (and is priced like it!) I could go on about All Clad's near cult following and price premium because of the brand name, but if you're looking at this you're already aware of it. What I would say is that I've used this for curry several times and really rather like it for boiling it even compared to some fairly high end pots. It stir fries what I put in it without an issue once it's seasoned, and works nicely on an induction cooktop. Overall, it's expensive but worth it - 5 stars. ... show more

  • A Specialist Masterpiece
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
Another great offering from All-Clad. I have a large collection of All-Clad pots and pans, and they never disappoint. This is a beautiful, high quality pan with an unusual shape. It’s wider and more shallow than the typical 4.5 quart size pan making it perfect for things like paella or chicken and rice. It is obviously stainless steel which can be a difficult transition for those only accustomed to non-stick pans. With the right technique, stainless steel can be virtually non-stick. Heat the pan on medium heat until when you sprinkle drops of water they roll around literally like marbles. Add your oil and let that get to just before smoking, where it’s shimmering nicely. This technique lets the oil fill the pits on the stainless steel in a way that it becomes virtually non-stick. Perhaps not the best for eggs or delicate fish, but non-stick enough for virtually anything else. And the non-stick effect is not at the expense of the world class All-Clad searing, something that traditional non-stick pans cannot achieve. This pan is a specialist. If this is your first exploration of All-Clad, I suggest purchasing a pan with a more versatile shape that can be used for more things. But if you already have the basics covered, this is fantastic pan for the chef looking for that next step. I trust this review was helpful. Thank you for reading. ... show more

  • Almost too pretty to cook with. An ideal paella or chicken-and-rice pan though
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
At first I thought it would be too big for my burners, but it's not. The bottom diameter is only 9-3/4". I can actually fit it in my sink to wash, which is so helpful. I hate large pans with handles that stick out that don't allow me to set the pan down into the sink. When you have a large pan that's full of food, unless you are a big strong guy, you aren't going to be able to lift it by a long handle anyway. So it ends up being both pointless and impractical. Much better two short handles as this has. I will say this pan is surprisingly lightweight. Don't get me wrong--it's not thin and cheap. It's just lighter than it's size makes you think it will be. As with all All-Clad cookware I've used, this cooks like a dream. It's perfect for sautéing and shallow-frying, and for making any kind of protein and rice dish like seafood and rice or chicken and rice. You can finish it in the oven if you like, as this is oven-safe. Another thing it's good for is jam-making and reducing sauces. The heavy bottom keeps them from scorching, while the wide top enables quick evaporation. The only thing I might change it I could is the lid. For a relatively shallow pan like this, I would prefer a domed lid, as that would give you a bit more space for foods that stick up, such as larger pieces of chicken. Also, I prefer having steam holes in lids, but that is a personal preference. ... show more

  • Stunning, Large & Versatile Pan. You Definitely Get What You Pay For!
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
By far the shiniest pan I've ever owned! I love this, the quality is remarkable. The pan is actually a bit lighter than I thought it would be, which makes it easy to handle on the stovetop or in the oven. I really like that it is broiler safe can take up to 600 degrees, that makes it maybe the most versatile pan I have. The shape is so interesting, it's pretty deep, I didn't see the dimensions listed here but I measured it as 14" diameter with a depth of about 2.5" with sloping sides. It can really be used for so many things, I've roasted meat and veggies in it, made pasta on the stove top, and broiled fish. The handles don't get too hot but warmer than silicone or wood handles might--those wouldn't be as durable so that's the trade off. This is only noticeable to me if I'm cooking on my gas stove and move it around a lot, like tossing something. It's such a useful pan to have around and I know it will stand the test of time. It also makes for a beautiful presentation at the table. Real quality, worth the money for sure. ... show more

  • Gorgeous versatile pan
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
All Clad is excellent quality and this pan is no exception. It's beautiful, well-balanced, sits flat on my induction cooktop and conducts heat evenly. The handles get warm but very hot, so I was able to move the pan around without a towel or oven mitt. Because it's stainless, it's extremely versatile - can go into the dishwasher (although this pan is sizeable so would probably eat up a good portion of the lower rack!) and can go from cooktop to oven. The sides are sloped so the base is not as big as you might think, but you can cook a good quantity of food in this. My only complaint is that food does stick (as is typical with stainless) and I have found that I can never get it back to its original shininess once used. After one use, I was left with some marks and stains on the pan that mar its shiny appearance. A bit disappointing to be honest, but really that's my only complaint about this otherwise excellent pan. ... show more

  • Great shape and size for batch cooking, peak quality
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
This Universal Pan is a gorgeous piece that brings peak All-Clad quality to cooking big batch recipes. I evaluated this with my mom's favorite chicken stew recipes, since this pan can accommodate a lot of food. Its shape is great for any recipe that involves browning of food, since it has a rather large cooking surface compared to a pot of similar capacity. The pan is a decent weight for its size - easy to maneuver around, and the handles provide a good grip. The bottom of the pan takes a while to heat but it delivers even, consistent heat once it gets going. Meat and vegetables brown easily in the bottom of the pan without excessive sticking. The lid fits well and feels just as nice quality as the rest of the pan. Once cooking is finished, this pan is very easy to clean up. Ultimately this pan is definitely worth it if you want All-Clad quality for a pan of this size. I imagine this being very useful for anyone wanting to make large batches of food using a pan as a vessel, rather than a large pot. ... show more

  • Induction AND Smoker
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
Using this on our INDUCTION cooktop and it works fantastic! I can sear meat in this pan on the induction then move it straight to our smoker to cook long term at low temp. Everything we make in it cooks beautifully and evenly. Excellent product and true to the All-Clad name.

  • A Perfect Pan?
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
I have 3 All-Clad pans. Each of them are nearly perfect and one has been my favorite pot for over 20 years. This new pan design (new to me anyway) is nearly perfect. It has flared sides allowing it to fit more food without over crowding the pan and it is low-ish sides making it easy to flip contents. With two side handles instead of one long handle it doesn't take over the range top. It is what I would call a flat bottomed wok, that meets a paella pan. The quality is typical All-Clad; the best quality possible. It heats up evenly, cleans easily and is built like a tank. It's safe to say this D5 Universal Pan is my new favorite All-Clad pan. Well, tied with my 20+ year old 2 quart pot! ... show more

  • Good hard to find pan
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
I struggle to find a pan that really has these types of qualities this pan has- I have one that almost hit the mark but unfortunately it is made of carbon steel which I did not know has a rusting issue. It keeps rusting and it’s a pain in the Patootie to scrape it. This one will not rust but it helps to have some experience cooking with this material, stainless. This pan is what I was looking for for risotto, paella, other sauces -frying of larger stir fries and just general bigger volume of cooking I need for a rapidly growing family of five. For me the pan is worth the cost because you’re not gonna get this pan anywhere else and it should last forever. You’re not gonna get it i a generic set of pans. Some thing else is that I thought this pan was going to be really heavy but it’s not, it’s pretty light. ... show more

  • Lightweight yet high quality!
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
I ordered this pan because I like the size and the design with the double handles on each side. I cook a lot of vegetables, especially greens that require a large pan. It's great for cooking for a big family as well. I was pleasantly surprised by how light weight the pan is. Sometimes, large pans like this are so heavy, they're a pain to lift. This is pretty lightweight for its size, yet sturdy enough to know it's high quality. It can go from stove top to oven without any worries of it getting too hot. And I love that it's made in the USA & has such a great reputation. Americas Test Kitchen always recommends All-Clad pans! The only downside is the high price. It's definitely not a cheap product, but it should last a lifetime. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Perfection! 🥘 👩🍳
Size: 4.5 quart Style: D5
Once again All Clad takes the blue ribbon award for best kitchen product out there! This pan is a delight to use. It’s got enough room for 5-6 chops, the helper handles stay cool to the touch when using. They are also reinforced with stainless rivets so they will NEVER COME LOOSE. The bottom isn’t just a clad disc. The entire bottom is clad, thus ensuring even browning and no hot spots. After continued use, there is zero signs of warping. The lid fits snug on the pan too. You can start this pan on the stove top and transfer it to oven easily. I never ever use in high heat so I haven’t had to deal with difficult clean up. Only add food AFTER pan heats up with oil or fat of your choice. It will be pretty much non stick after that. Perfect product! Chefs kiss! 🤌🤌🤌 ... show more
