We’re trying to reduce plastic waste and tried an expensive health food store dish soap bar. In fact the fancy bar was none other than vegetable soap. So we tried this. SAVES PLASTIC and it’s cool “Aleppo Soap” sounds exotic. This is a superb dish washing soap. The most important thing about using a bar soap on dishes is rinse ability. This stuff rinses nicely off plastic, metal and glass alike. We’re not sensitive to impact on skin. I can’t say it’s rough or not because I don’t notice either way. The aroma is pleasant. It’s not a perfume. It’s like, dunno really, calm like what it might smell like near an olive press. It doesn’t smell like soap. It probably has lye. So don’t use it on cast iron or carbon steel woks and such. You are suggested not to clean such items with any soap really. We’re quite pleased and doing a little part to reduce plastic waste. We have not tried for laundry. It’s the same as any other soap for handwashing IMHo. ... show more

Buying the soap was a trip into the great unknown. Don't be surprised by the appearance. It comes wrapped in a heat sealed plastic similar to cellophane. The picture does not do this Aleppo soap justice. Mine seem to be even more dried out and wizened up.It has no added scents, in other words it has a very unusual and flat smell, in other words it smelled like homemade soap. I was in the hospital recovering from kidney stones. I was there for two weeks and I needed to wash my hair, a couple of times. First, I used one of those hair washing caps that they microwave. The second time I elected to use this Aleppo soap with washcloths and hot water over the hair washing caps the hospital provided. Those leave a weird and funky residue. The Aleppo soap worked fantastically. My hair was squeaky clean and my head did not itch anymore! I later used it for shaving along with the disposable razors that the hospital gave me. I didn't have razor burn all over my face. My face felt smooth and soft. Much better than shaving cream. I told my wife about this and she tried it for bathing. She swears up and down there worked as an excellent exfoliating soap. I am going to give some to my son to let him try Aleppo soap camping. So if I get a sufficiently informative review from him I will update this post. I highly recommend you try the Aleppo soap from this seller. This is the only seller that this review applies to, as I have not tried anyone else's product. Considering how long this single bar from the package of two has lasted; it will be some time before I get around to trying anyone else's. ... show more

I've never tried Aleppo soap, but I like to use high quality natural soap for my body and hair. I usually use French olive oil or shea butter based soaps. This soap really does leave me clean feeling, yet my skin is not dried out. It does this better than the French ones I've used. It must be the Laurel Oil, as is suggested. I guess the reason these Aleppo soaps are brown on the outside and green on the inside is that they dry out or cure the soap in a smokehouse. There is a very strong smoky scent to the soap. I can't decide if it is wood smoke or coal smoke. It smells more like coal. I like this! It does not really stay on the skin after you dry off. And I prefer this to most of the scents soaps have. Makes me feel like a lumberjack! Despite the rugged smell, the soap is very gentle and has been great on my short thinning hair as well. ... show more

This soap has made my skin feel so good and I don't have any more itchy skin due to going through perimenopause my skin doesn't feel so dry and waxy like I just don't have no irritations after I use this soap I feel actually good after, I feel really clean I still feel like it's moisture in my skin my skin has a beautiful glow to it I even use it to make my own laundry detergent because I have extremely sensitive skin overall this soap is amazing I'm definitely going to purchase as much as I can it really goes a long way this soap can last fall good while. ... show more

3 stars because overall was fair for the money. good amount of soap, really like how big the bar is kinda even need to cut it in half to be usable, does feel natural. Doesn't work very well though for moisture. My skin is by no means dry, I have normal skin so don't really get oily or dry. This however definitely dried out my skin Seriously feels like it just stripped all the oils good and bad off my body and left me with nothing. Really wish it had some better moisturizing properties or oil. I really doubt but the oil content. I had to lather moisturizer on twice to get something back, not really a problem I have unless I use a cheap dollar store soap. Honestly doesn't feel cheap just probably made more for people with oily skin to help control oil. Cleans really well, I'll probably still use it for my face on days I'm feel oily or extra grimy. Oh and also, yes it does smell bad. Doesn't last long though if using moisturizer right after, smell seems to fade from the skin easily. ... show more
