  • Needs extra work.
Color: Lorien DIY
This guitar is very nice, but if you pay attention there some small dents on the body. I especially found a few on the maple veneer that I just can't remove without sanding through the super thin veneer. Also the flame maple veneer does not accept oil stain well, as I used a dark black stain and the guitar looks gray. When installing the hardware I found a few hole that did not line up with the hardware causing me to put screws in a bit of an angle. I needed to make the hole from the pickups to the controls larger. Installing one pick up cable is fine, but then trying to fit the second pickup connectors with a cable already in was impossible. Some of the frets needed to be leveled, and rounded over. Needed to sand down the plastic nut a out 1/2 a millimeter to make it a bit more playable. But if you take your time and don't mind these little hassles it is a nice guitar project. But to top it all the customer service is impressive. They reach out and tried to help me on how I can improve things. They really took there time with and it really look like they cared about there customers. Will definitely buy from them again. ... show more

  • Absolutely top notch kit
Color: Lorien DIY
The Quality of this kit is fantastic i spent about a day finishing the body with Danish oil some light sanding was required but expected "as with any kit" The instruction manual is FANTASTIC very well written and illustrated complete and concise instruction to get you going as easily as they can The hardware is all very good quality the pickups are pretty outstanding for a kit of this price point as well as the fact that its got a push pull pot for coil splitting included with a kit again at this price point its unheard of and a fantastic addition to the guitar I had a single missing screw from my kit for the pickup ring and the CS rep that i spoke with went above and beyond to make it right with me ... AMAZING customer service !!! After setting up the guitar adjusting the truss rod correctly and setting the bridge height it plays amazingly well very low action and very fast extremely fun to play it even includes a beginners manual for learning to play guitar! I honestly cant say enough good about this kit ... show more

  • Great build, minor defect, wrong wiring diagram
Color: Lorien DIY
Overall this really is a great build for the money. I am not a huge fan of les Paul's to begin with. But I thought this would be a good build. The veneer is extremely thin and did have some flaws in it. Some I did not catch until I began to dye it. It wasn't worth the hassle to try and return. The instruction guide is simple however the wiring diagram was wrong based on what I had. It mentions a white wire and this set up did not have it. Pre drilled holes all lined up good and naturally set its self up 90% I just needed to adjust the bridge and pickup height. I would certainly buy again to try some more. ... show more

  • Great Kit!
Color: Lorien DIY
I’ve assembled and finished probably 20 guitar kits and this one was one of the best, if not THE best. I used TransTint dyes with a denatured alcohol base and the wood took the dye very well. Sometimes it’s necessary to clean up leftover glue that’s made its way into the wood during manufacturing but that was not the case with my kit. All I did with the roasted maple neck was wipe a couple of coats of feed & wax on it. Nice and smooth afterwards. Assembly was straight-forward and I didn’t run into any surprises. All the pre-drilled screw holes were perfectly placed, rare for a kit guitar. Aside from the technicals, it’s a really sharp-looking guitar. Like a cross between a PRS and LP. Mine turned out great and I hope yours does too. Keep it simple, dye and aerosol poly, and you’ll be fine. ... show more

  • better sound quality than you'd expect at the price; super fast assembly
Color: Lorien DIY
This is shockingly good quality for the price. Son is 14, knows a fair amount about guitars (this is his 2nd) and assembled the whole thing in under half an hour. He needed a 2nd electric to leave at school and I asked him "what's the cheapest solution that you'll be happy with" and he did research outside of amazon and ultimately decided on this one. He's had it for about a month now and says he would like to swap out the tuners for a better quality, which he kinda figured would happen with a kit, because he's playing a lot and having to tune often (also, he is really really picky about sound). He is playing it unfinished but his sister is a woodworker and she is going to stain and seal it for him. Before we bought, I saw a lot of reviews complained about paper thin maple veneer but really if a 14 year old can handle it carefully to assemble it without any chip or problem, then I have no complaints. I mean, veneers are really thin, that's what a veneer is. But he was very impressed with the sound quality, especially for the price. So much so that he's considering leaving his strat at school and keeping this one as his at-home main electric ... show more

  • My veneer was garbage!
Color: Lorien DIY
I can't speak to the sound of the guitar yet but I can tell you the veneer is terribly. Basically unusable. For 100$ I wasnt expecting perfection and I do see in the reviews that I probably just got a bad one. Regardless, I sanded off the veneer completely. Glad I did actually. Even though you can see the three peices , it doesn't look that bad. In fact I kinda like it. I still have tons of work to get it looking good but ill take some pics and amend my review when I get it completely together. ... show more

  • Nice! Attention to detail A+
Color: Lorien DIY
This is a quality kit. I’ve built several guitars with kits and this thing is top notch. Frets are all good, minimal sharp edges. Pickups look nice. Solderless is always night on initial build. I usually upgrade after I know the final build is solid Can’t wait to put it together. I will update as we go! ... show more
