  • Studio-Quality Sound and Exceptional Build
Style: P420
The AKG Pro Audio P420 is an outstanding microphone for both studio and field recording. The sound quality is clean, warm, and detailed — easily rivaling higher-end mics. The selectable polar patterns (cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-eight) make it extremely versatile for vocals, instruments, and voiceover work. The included shock mount and carrying case are solid and professional-grade, offering excellent protection and stability. The build quality feels premium, and setup is simple. I’ve used it for both music and spoken recordings, and it delivers consistently impressive results. This mic is a real workhorse — highly recommended for anyone serious about audio production. ... show more

  • BEST OVERALL MIC FOR RECORDINGS!!! (Recordings and even YOUTUBE!)
Style: P220
As a home recording artist, this mic definitely met my needs. For the longest time, I've owned the AKG Perception 120 (the old model), and I've never had a problem with this mic. The main reason to why I bought the P220 was so I can change my setup to have one mic for recording vocals (the P220) and the other mic for recording YouTube videos (Perception 120). The shock mount for the P220 is being used for the Perception 120, and it fits the mic perfectly. Both mics are basically the same size, so I figured that it would work. The build quality on the P220 is rugged and tough, and the functions are very simple. You have 2 main settings: the bass roll off, which is great if you want to record without having to deal with any unnecessary low end frequency that the mic picks up. The other setting cuts off the signal by 20db. From my experience, it's best use is if you have a noisy background, and you don't want that to bleed into the mic. It basically isolates the signal to only be heard right in front of the mic as opposed to everything in the environment. I would be lying if I said that were some things I don't like about it (because I simply LOVE AKG products) but for other people, this might be too simple of a mic compared to other more expensive mics. The sound of this mic is warmer and more direct than the AKG Perception 120, so I felt that it was better for recording vocals. However, the Perception 120 still crushes it in the studio. Some people might consider a different taste in sound compared to other mics, but for me, this mic suits my needs perfectly. The AKG Perception 120: AKG Perception P120 Professional Studio Microphone, Sliver So, here are my pros and cons: PROS: - inexpensive - simple settings - versatile (vocals, guitar, etc.) - rugged CONS (possible opinions of others): - too cheap - too simple (not enough settings) - not preferred taste of sound - too heavy ... show more

  • Great mic
Style: P220
Performed a little test with this mic. Based on the good reviews and sale price, I figured this might make a good mic for vocal work or at least stringed instruments. I’m happy to report that it fits the bill nicely. Compared to an AT 2035, the sound is more warm, with less character in the mid range at 430 hz to about 900. I think the only thing was a loss of clarity in the 5 kHz range comparatively. Turns out that works very well for baritone ranged singers. I’ll keep the AT 2035 on my tenor and alto singers. At this price range it is tough to find something with a perfectly flat response without some coloring, but it’s really about finding the cheap mics with the right color (frequency response curves) that fit your application. In this case I’d say this is good for male singers with deeper voices, or acoustic instruments in the viola or cello range. I haven’t tried yet, but a medium-low brass might be complimented well here too. Overall, it’s hefty, has the right voicing stage to be useful for vocal singing and voice-over, and fits a budget anyone can afford. For a project studio on a reasonable budget, I think you will be satisfied. ... show more

  • Fantastic mic - once I “fixed” it!
Style: P420
I really like this microphone. Stunningly good build quality, great shock mount, selectable polar pattern, and a really good case. However, when I got it, it put out a pretty loud 60Hz hum that got much worse when my hand got near the mic. It was upsetting, because I thought it was a poor quality mic. I even went through the return process and got a RMA from Amazon. Then I noticed that when I wiggled the XLR cable a little bit, sometimes the hum went away, and the mic sounded really good. On a whim, I took the housing off the bottom, which wasn’t difficult. Basically just unscrewed and removed the bottom ring. I didn’t “do” anything inside the mic, and I didn’t unscrew the capsule or remove the basket. I put it back together, and it’s been perfect ever since. No noise, no wiggling the XLR cable. And the sound is great for my needs. I’m not sure what changed when I disassembled it, but something definitely did. I bought it as an inexpensive way to add a figure-of-eight pattern for use in mid-side recordings, but it sounds really good in the cardioid pattern. Overall, this is a great value for a durable microphone that sounds very good. ... show more

  • Good mic
Style: P420
This mic sounds just as good as one half it’s price. The case was awesome, but the sound quality on this thing isn’t anything special. No complaints. It is a good mic
