Strong start, we'll see if it can do the marathon
Set name: 4200 Watts Gas
Just arrived today, doing the break in as I type this so longevity will not be part of this review but I will come back and update. I was using two generators one for winter, one for summer, a sportsman 2000 watt for winter and a champion 4750 dual fuel for summer, neither were inverter generators. We just took a trip to Bristol for the races and using the Champion generator we blew threw over $100 in gasoline to run 24/7 from Thursday night to Sunday Morning. This prompted me to buy this generator. First impression, started up in third pull and was relatively quiet compared to my champion generator. I turned on the fridge and AC in my toy hauler to do the break in, the eco mode handled it no problem. I expect to get close to advertised hours but will update with fuel economy. I wish this was dual fuel but for the money I can't expect that. I am shocked at how easily it handled the AC unit, converter and refrigerator. If this things is as efficient as claimed, I will be kicking myself, it would have paid for itself easily through this summer in fuel savings. Basic entry level inverter generator under $300. We usually run 48-72 hours per weekend so I will be able to update in a few months on the fuel efficiency and reliability. ... show more

Top notch generator !
Ok I’ll start out by saying thank you for the opportunity to review this great generator. And that I’ve been very impressed with this generator overall. The first thing that stood out to me is that it feels much more substantial than I expected for a portable generator in this price range. The open-frame design gives it a rugged, practical feel, and it seems like it was built with actual use in mind rather than simply being something you keep around for an emergency. The 4200W output gives you a useful amount of capacity without stepping up to one of the much larger, heavier generators. The size of this generator fits well for me, a 59 year old woman who works as a property manager for a while lotta properties! It’s a good middle ground for the back of your pickup but also bridges the gap for home backup, camping, an RV, or keeping essential equipment running during a power outage. I especially like having enough capacity to run several necessities at once rather than constantly having to decide which appliance to unplug before starting another one. The inverter design is another major advantage. Having cleaner power is important when you’re connecting electronics, chargers, computers, televisions, or other equipment that you don’t want exposed to the rougher power characteristics that some conventional generators can produce. It makes this feel like a more versatile backup option than a basic jobsite generator. I also appreciate the safety features. The CO sensor provides an important additional layer of protection, and the low-oil shutoff is something I consider essential on a generator that may sit for months and then suddenly be called into service. The automatic protection features give me more confidence that the generator is looking out for itself while it is running. Noise is always one of my biggest concerns with generators, particularly when using one around a house or campsite. For an open-frame generator, this one is reasonably quiet. It obviously isn’t silent, and anyone buying a gas-powered generator should have realistic expectations about that, but the noise level is much more manageable than some of the older open-frame units I’ve used. The controls are straightforward and the overall setup is uncomplicated. I don’t want to have to pull out a manual every time I need to start a generator, and this one is relatively intuitive. The portability is also a plus. It is substantial enough to feel durable, but it is still practical to move around when you need to position it where it will be used. For home backup, I think the biggest advantage is having something available before you actually need it. A generator is one of those purchases that can seem unnecessary until the power goes out, and then suddenly becomes one of the most important things you own. Having the CO protection, low-oil shutoff, inverter technology, and decent power capacity in one unit makes this a very appealing option. Overall, this has exceeded my expectations. It offers a nice combination of power, portability, safety features, reasonable noise levels, and versatility. Whether you need backup power at home, something for an RV or campsite, or a dependable generator for occasional jobsite use, this is a very capable unit. It feels like a practical piece of equipment rather than a generator designed to sit in the garage and collect dust, and I’m glad to have it available when I need it. ... show more

AIVOLT 4200W Inverter Generator - Clean Power, extended runtime, and safety features
Set name: 4200 Watts Gas
I live in the Gulf South so I've lived through my share of hurricanes and strong storms that have led to power outages and flooding. With that in mind, I acquired this gas-powered portable AIVOLT 4200W inverter generator specifically for such occasions; but it is also very useful to add clean electricity to most any outdoor activity. Fortunately, due to the light hurricane season *so far* this year I haven't had to rely upon it for outages. But as per the Scout Motto, it's always good to "Be Prepared." Unboxing: The generator arrived impeccably packaged within the illustrated product box, along with a variety of accessories. The accessories include a 30 Amp RV adapter, an oil funnel, a spark plug wrench, a quick start guide, and a well-written and illustrated user manual. Weight-wise, I found the boxed generator to be a bit cumbersome to transport from my porch to my garage, but fortunately I have a trusty dolly for such occasions. Once unboxed, the frame makes it easier to handle its weight of 54.3 pounds, but I'll consider adding a wheel kit for easier movement. Setup: Setup was fairly straight forward. The generator ships without oil, so I purchased a quart of 10W-30 oil separately. The oil capacity is 16.2 fluid ounces, or about half a quart. The provided oil funnel came in quite handy for that step. I chose premium gasoline without ethanol to help avoid gumming up the carburetor, although fuel stabilizer helps otherwise. - It's advised to change the oil after the first 5 hours of usage, then again after 20 hours, after which I plan to change it every 50-100 hours depending on usage, or draining it for long-term storage. - Although oil levels should be checked regularly, I really appreciate that the generator has a low-oil shutdown feature to protect the engine if levels manage to get critically low. That provides piece of mind if left running over night. Features: For emergencies, I appreciate that the generator delivers 4200 peak watts / 3300 running watts to power essentials like refrigerators, small air conditioners, fans, a sump pump, power tools/batteries, and other portable appliances when needed. - This unit lacks a wattage output meter, unfortunately, but it does have an overload protection feature to help protect the generator. However, I plan to acquire an inline wattage meter to help use the generator more efficiently. - A standout feature of this unit is its inverter technology, which produces clean power with less than 3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). That provides piece of mind that it can be used to power sensitive electronics like laptops, phones, backup batteries, and even a television (with an antennae), so that I can keep track of storm-related news from local stations. - Outlets galore: This generator has two 120V three-prong (5-20R) outlets for use with standard power cables, so I can run cables to different areas of my house as needed. It also has an RV outlet (TT-30R) and two 5V USB ports. An optional parallel kit can be added to link two generators for increased wattage. - The 2.6 gallon fuel tank is adequate for long-term use between refills, and can be extended to up to 16 hours at 25% load, while ECO mode also saves fuel and extends runtime. - I appreciate that the unit has a CO sensor for added safety, although I know to operate combustible engines in an open space. Operation: Impressively, the generator starts with one or two pulls. This is my first generator so I can't directly compare its loudness with others, and I don't have a decibel meter, but its relatively civilized compared to other generators I've heard over the years during power outages. I placed it in my backyard about 40 feet from my back door which helped dampen its noise inside my house. I tested it with a window AC unit (~1,110W) and a refrigerator (~500W), the two essentials I'd want to power during a prolonged outage, and it worked like a champ, with wattage to spare. Overall, this is a well-built, feature-rich, and effective generator that has exceeded my expectations. Its compact footprint allows it to be easily stored until it's called upon in times of need. At $420 as of this writing, this model provides a good value to have on hand during an emergency. Having lost a freezer/refrigerator full of food during a past prolonged outage, this generator can pay for itself during a single outage. ... show more

started on the second pull
I like this generator. It's a good price for a 4200w (3300W running watts) inverter. It is open frame, so a bit louder than if it was enclosed, but that's normal for this type. The frame itself is very compact. The whole thing is quite a bit smaller than an older generator I have of about the same power, though that one is electric start and has a 6 gallon tank. This one only holds 2.6 gallons, though that lasts 16 hours at 25% load. After adding oil and some gas, turning the fuel shut-off (yes, it has one) to on, it started on the second pull. It might've started on the first, if I'd given it a little more effort, but the first pull is always rather cautious. It didn't take much effort at all. I hooked it up to my cabin's generator inlet box, and it performed like a champ. In the video, it is running two small air conditioners, totalling about 900-1100 running watts, though they surge higher when the compresser starts up. It can keep my solar system batteries charged when the sun is on vacation, and a full tank of gas should run all night if I need it. It's about 40 feet from the bedroom wall of the cabin, and inside I can't hear it at all over the sound of the window AC units. I think distance is the key. In my video, I am standing about 3 to 4 feet from the thing, and it makes it sound much louder than it is when you step just a few feet away. It's a really good price for such a small, compact generator. I have a smaller AIVolt portable that supports parallel as well, so I may see about acquiring a parallel cable. I have one laying around somewhere for WEN generators, but haven't checked to see if the connections are the same. It didn't come with any oil, so make sure you pick up some 10W-30 (or 5W-30 in really cold climates). It has a funnel to fill it, and a small tool kit for changing/cleaning the spark plug. There was also an adapter for the RV cable inlet. The one in the picture is not what came with it. My inlet is 240V (with two hots), but I bridged them because they are completely separate in the cabin and I have them on separate circuits with no 240v outlets. It wouldn't work otherwise, but if you don't need 240v, this is a bargain. ... show more

Does what it is supposed to do
Set name: 4200 Watts Gas
Have not had the power go out since I got this, thankfully, so I tested with other plug-in items. It’s compact enough that I can move it around without dealing with one of the huge, heavy generators I’ve seen, but it still has enough output for the basics. Getting it started has been easy, and the controls are straightforward once you get everything set up. It’s an open-frame generator, so it can be kind of loud. Goes without saying, but keep it outside while your run it! I also like having the inverter technology, CO sensor, and low-oil shutoff since those are nice features to have on something I may only use occasionally. Just keep in mind that the 4,200 watts is the peak rating, with 3,300 watts of running power, so I wouldn’t buy it expecting 4,200 watts of continuous output. Overall, it feels like a solid and practical generator to keep around when needed in an emergency. Value for the money is somewhat subjective, but I think it has value. Would recommend! ... show more

Excellent generator with important safety features
The 4200W Inverter Generator Gas Powered Generator is an excellent and fairly easy to use. Before you plan to use it the first time, you will need regular unleaded gasoline and the recommended 10W-30 oil. Although the instructions say that oil is included, we did not have any oil included in our box. After we got the oil, my husband was really impressed with the safety features on this generator. The CO sensor to detect carbon monoxide is very important. It has a low-oil detector, so that it shuts off for safety. The generator is lightweight for my husband's jobsite work. It is small and easy to transport. As you can tell from my short video shown below, it is not that noisy for a generator. It is very easy to pull the pull cord. You have to turn the fuel valve on to use the generator and then off when you are finished using it. Another aspect that my husband liked was that it does not give off a strong odor. It appears to burn cleanly. It is excellent for jobsite work where there is no available power---for drills, lights, and saws. Highly recommended! ... show more
