  • Buy this or something like it.
I bought this as a backup paddle the third time I got halfway to the water with my kayak and realized I didn't have my paddle and had to abort. Yeah, it's a crappy aluminum shaft in 4 pieces with a plastic blade, and you wouldn't want this as your primary paddle. Fine. I get that. But it's better than no paddle ad that is its best use. Leave it under your main hatch for when you forget your paddle, or someone in your party loses their paddle on the water. It is serviceable and cheap and compact enough to just be left in your boat and forgotten about until needed. I ran a length of paracord through the holes in the shaft where it pops together, and the end pieces I just drilled a 3/8" hole in the blade so one piece of cord keeps all of it together and snapped to an eyepad under the hatch so if I ever need it I won't be fishing for parts that slid to the other end of the hull. ... show more

  • Great Buy for the Price
Needed an inexpensive paddle to replace my usual one in a pinch. This one did the job well specially for the price. The paddle does not look as strong as my usual one which was much more expensive, but it does not appear flimsy and held up fine. I should have paid a little more attention to the length and it would be nice to be able to adjust the angle of the paddle, but given how cheap it was, those are not real issues. I would recommend getting some grips if you will be out there more than an hour or so, I got some pretty awful blisters after 2 hours on the water. ... show more

  • Compact but not so comfortable
I bought these paddles for light-use paddling with sea kayaks. While they are handy to travel with (they are extremely light and break down into four short pieces), they are not so comfortable to paddle with as they tend to turn in your palm. They could use some kind of grip to avoid this. They are also a bit short for sea kayaks, so we gave them to our children to use and they were happy with them although they preferred to use our other paddles with the rubber grips for the same reason we did. ... show more

  • Great spare paddle
Although I have not yet used this paddle on the water, I am pleased with my purchase. It easily disassembles into 4 sections, is adjustable for feathering, and seems sturdy but fairly light. The shaft is not overly thick, and fits my small hands easily, which is great since my main paddle is a narrow shaft werner little dipper. Good quality for the price. The only negative is that the drip rings seem a little loose; we'll see what happens in the water. Still very happy with my purchase ... show more

  • Whoop, paddle.
Light enough, strong enough, and I didn't pay a lot. I backpack with this paddle, and while there are lighter ones, this was in the right price range. After using ~10 times I can say it was worth the $35. I'm not comfortable with asym paddles, so it's nice that I can choose to use it traditionally as well. First paddle I've ever bought though, so take this with a grain of salt. ... show more

  • The Kwik Tek 220 cm Asymetrical Blade Paddle
For the price, this is a very usable paddle. Although it comes in four parts, when the parts are put together, the paddle feels sturdy and usable on quiet water (such as a lake or pond). If you paddle often or on rivers/oceans, you might want a heftier paddle, but for my occasional use, this paddle fits my needs very well. I really do like being able to take the paddle apart for storage in our car and in our closet. ... show more

  • Great for 30 bucks
You get what you pay for. It decent but not anything special. Its a very light paddle but not as ridged so there is a slight lean to the frame if you feel carefully. Overall, if you want a kayak paddle for little to nothing, this is it.

  • I bought this paddle about 18 months ago. It ...
I bought this paddle about 18 months ago. It served me well considering the price until last week when I noticed a fracture in the shaft at the center joint likely due to the repetitive flexing of the shaft on each stroke. I was out on the water about 3 miles from home and the crack was already 3/4 around the shaft. Luckily I made it back. Also, the sectional joints gave a bit when paddling and over time they've allowed some water to enter the paddle shaft. ... show more
