  • Useful for testing weather station and AC vents
This device is well made and allowed me to test the wind speed reported by two different weather stations I own. Measurements seemed accurate and were within margins of the stations. I also used this to test some AC vents after installing a whole home dehumidifier and allowed me to balance the airflow and confirm the dehumidifier was able to tie into the existing vent stack. For fun I also test this device while driving down the road and holding it out the window. It reported a 43 MPH wind when I was driving 45 MPH. Unexpected use case was my son seeing how powerful his breath was, it kept him occupied for about 20 minutes. ... show more

  • This is a very impressive, and sensitive, device.
This is well made and has comfortable grips on both the meter and the windmill, plus a nice cord (like one sees with old telephones and certain notorious alien autopsy films). The plug is a nice and secure 3/8" four pin job. The meter requires three AA batteries, I presume because this device will be commonly used for field work of diverse kinds, and rechargeable items, while undeniably modern, can lead to much grief when the charge runs out at the top of a radio tower, or twelve miles from shore in a Boston Whaler with a storm bearing down. This measures wind velocity, temperature and flow (try that with your 4th grade science anemometer; but after all, it wasn't the future yet, back then). It determines both minimum and maximum wind velocity. It can hold data, and tells you when the batteries are tired. It automatically shuts itself off if the user is out to lunch. The wand telescopes to about 18". It offers unit conversion, including centigrade to Fahrenheit, feet per minute, knots, meters per hour, kilometers per hour, and meters per second. It says it has an "audio key pressing alert"; I'll have to trust them on that one, as I have yet to find it. Last, the design of this unit is arguably attractive, nice colors too. If you're going to be holding things up in the air in public, no harm in them having a little class. It comes with a handy plastic zipper case. It is neither shockproof nor waterproof, so be nice to it. ... show more

  • Works great, Nice features
I am a chainsaw operator, and we follow some pretty stringent safety guidelines. One of them is not felling trees when wind speed is over a certain amount. Lots of discussions ensue among cutters about stopping work for safety. This anemometer settles the arguments immediately. It is larger than some I've used in the past, but it's worth it. I like the temp and humidity (although I don't need it),. What I really appreciate is how big the fan blade is. The device doesn't have to be pointed directly in the direction of the wind to get a reading like you do with the smaller ones. It is super sensitive and changes instantly as wind speed does. Min-max readings are good, so we know the gusts besides the average. I can wrap a line around it on a tree branch and let it go. It's easy to monitor occasionally or if the wind is getting too gusty for cutting. It's way more accurate than the small one I was using. Recommended if accurate wind speed is important to you. ... show more
