At the end of the season when the pool gets covered up, we get some rains (and later on snow) that collect on the pool cover. I had one of those little automatic pumps, but it proved to be more trouble that it was worth. At one point, there was water in the pool (so the auto pump turned on) but the impeller wasn't moving, so the pump motor continued to run for days until I finally discovered it! I decided I wanted a simple manual pump, but one that was fast. That way when the cover filled up, I could plug it in, run it for a little while, and unplug it again. (I set my kitchen timer so I wouldn't forget.) I didn't want something that would be running for hours, so a stronger faster pump like this was perfect. I loop the discharge hose under the cover, so it pumps water off the cover and then back underneath, if that makes sense. That way there's still plenty of water in the pool come springtime. ... show more

You need to have a lot of patience to use that. I ordered it because I thought it will powerful and the flow rate will be high but it's really not. Although it says - 1100 GPH but I think it's very less than that.

The pump does not pump at 1100 GPH. At best it pumps at about 500 GPH. I used it with the 3/4" hose fitting and a 15 foot 3/4" garden hose. In the end it got the job done but took a lot longer than expected.

I purchased this pump and it was the best decision I have ever made, now everytime I want to do my fresh water aquarium water changes I just this pump in it and within few minutes it will drain as much as I want and refill my tank through the same pump by putting it in a bucket in my sink and refilling my tank with fresh water. It used to take me good 45 minutes to an hour but now within 20 to 30 minutes I drain and refill my tank. Definitely I would recommend this product to anyone!!!! ... show more
