I'm using this pump to make an easy diy bird bath in a basic 20 inch plastic terra cotta plant dish. A few things to know prior to purchase: 1. It's corded: The solar panel (which you stick somewhere that gets full sun for the majority of the day) connects to the pump inside the bird bath via a 10 ft cord. Not a big deal for me since I can hide the cord in the bath with some rocks. But just be aware you will have a cord hanging out of the bird bath (or water feature) from the pump to the solar panel. 2. No sun/no pump: The pump will only operate when the solar panel is receiving full direct sunlight. So if a cloud covers the sun... or a shadow/obstruction gets between the solar panel and direct sunlight, the pump will not operate until the sun comes back out/or shadow or obstruction removed. Not a big deal, since I'm using this to keep the water fresher/cooler for the birds (it does a great job for that!). But if you'd prefer it to run more consistently during daylight hours, you'll probably want to purchase a solar pump with the internal solar rechargeable battery (which is more expensive but can be found on Amazon). 3. You may have to adjust the solar panel at some point during the later half of the day as the sun starts to move. Or... If you are lucky without any obstructions (house, trees, etc) you may not have to. 4. Comes with 5 different spray nozzles to provide various shooting, fountain or bubbler-like effects. Or... You don't need to use any of the included attachments and just use the pump to circulate water. But keep in mind when using the attachment heads that provide the high fountain effect: it's going to shoot 12 inches of water into the air when you get full sun/full power (at least that's my experience in the FL sun). That means: You need a big enough bird bath to accommodate the over spray/splashes...otherwise you'll lose all your water in the bath a few sprinkles at a time and need to refill the bath. Also... If it's a breezy day, the breeze can disrupt the 12 inches of fountain spray and push it outside of the bath. Hence, need to to refill the bath. I had a big issue with keeping the water from sprinkling or splashing out of my large 20 inch dish when using the 12 inch high fountain spray type attachments. Drove me nuts! Since there is no way to regulate how high the fountain will spray, what to do? I used a drill with a small bit and made the holes ever so slightly bigger... And it worked! Slightly larger holes reduced pressure and provided a spray 6 inches high VS 12 inches and solved the issue of splashes/over spray. Also... Good news: A basic plastic straw can act as an extender (in this order: Pump, straight rod attachment, straw, funnel looking attachment... And if you wish, then put a fountain cap attachment on the funnel). I was messing around with rocks inside the bird bath (for birds to perch on) with the pump hidden under the pile of rocks. Using a straw allowed me to extend the reach of the pump from under the pile of loose rocks. 5. The pump has a nifty auto-shutoff feature if the bath ever ran out of water to prevent the pump from burning out. 6. Also a small mesh filter is installed to help keep loose debris (dirt, leaves, etc) from entering the pump and blocking it. There are 2 backup replacement mesh filters included as well. I highly recommend... As long as you don't require the pump to remain on all day without interruption due to sun going behind clouds. Works really well to be keep your bird bath fresher and cooler. It's a fun and versatile little gadget for bird baths or decorative water features. Neat gift idea too! Update April 2024: I'm one month shy of owning this for one year... And it suddenly died. Have run the pump daily in my bird bath and it never gave me a minutes trouble. Contacted seller to see if there was a fix... and they replaced the item for free! I'm very impressed with the prompt service and response from customer service. Update April 2026: still works like new! No complaints! ... show more

Just installed this solar pump. Since my bird bath isn't very deep, I decided on the external solar panel, as opposed to a floating model. Small solar panel but was very easy to install. Pump worked immediately and provided a nice bubble of water. Used double sided tape underneath the edge of the panel and along the side of the square plastic piece underneath the panel. Was able to secure the panel on top of a block fence, so it gets solar all day long. VERY happy with the install. Because of the length of the power cord, I ran it from the bubbler, down the mounting stakes, then back up again and to the solar panel. May redesign the power cord installation, but for now I'll just leave it. LOVE the fact that it has an "auto off" if the water level gets too low. ... show more

I own a small, shallow bird bath that I wanted to add a fountain feature to. But I needed a very small pump for it to work. This is the smallest I could find. It's adorable. It looks like a toy but it isn't. With direct sunlight on the small solar panel, the stream is a good 15" tall, and when it comes to fountains, size matters. It's actually too much for my bird bath. The water goes over the edge especially in wind, making the water drop below the required level. The pump then shuts off to protect the motor (a red LED confirms this condition). I'll have to use one of the alternate fountain adapters. It's also quiet. I do wish the solar panel was larger, as such a small footprint reduces its ability to be in full sun. I also wish it came with a taller ground spike to raise it above tall grass. It seems they decided on the size of the panel and spike based on what could fit in the small box, which isn't the best way to design products. Like most solar devices, the pump will stop if it doesn't get enough sunlight. The only way to avoid that is to get an electric pump and I'm not about to run a long extension cord under the ground. Plus I doubt I'd find an electric pump this small. The only other thing on my wish list was if it had several colored LEDs mounted on the top. That would've required more power, but not very much, and wouldn't have added much to the cost. My main concern is longevity, as some reviews said the pump died prematurely for no apparent reason, but that seems to be the case with many of them, not just this one. I had one solar and one electric fountain pump many years ago and both died after a short period. Fingers crossed this little guy lasts because it does the job quite nicely and at a very reasonable cost. ... show more

The pump worked great for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden it stopped pumping water. I cleaned it, made sure there was enough water and it was in the sun and nothing. I reached out to the seller and they responded fast and sent me a replacement. So not the best pump but customer service did help fast! So far the new pump is working greats but its only been 3 days. I hope this one doesn't stop working as well. ... show more

This 1.5 watt pump is perfect for the simple water feature I made for our new pollinator garden. If I'd gotten the more powerful pump the water output would be too strong for what we wanted. The different fountain heads are a nice feature and very easy to change out. For reference, the container I used for the pool of water is 22" diameter and 3.5" deep. The rocks are slate. With the pump being solar it only works when sunlight hits the receptor panel, meaning the fountain does not work when it's dark out, if there's a good amount of cloud cover, or if the panel is in the shade. This pump has a "low water level shut off feature" which is great for preventing the pump motor from burning out due to running without enough water covering it. I make it a habit to maintain the water level to avoid stressing the motor, and hopefully extend the longevity of the pump. The cord that connects the pump to the solar panel is 9 feet, but in reality you will have less than that as to how far out you can place the solar panel from your water feature. But depending on the situation, it is possible to have your fountain in the shade while the solar panel is 8.5 feet away in a sunny area. Something to keep in mind, as an example - if you have a taller type of fountain where the pump will sit 2 feet down, and you want the section of cord that will be outside the fountain to hang down along the side or back of the fountain - and not be pulled taut coming out at an angle from the fountain - that would use up 4 feet of the cord and leave you with less than 5 feet of distance to place the solar panel. Last thing - be sure to periodically take the pump out (unplugged) and rinse off/clear out any debris build up, which WILL occur when it's outside. #1 reason pumps stop working. ... show more

These Fountains work great. There are some things that the owner must do in order to keep the pump working the way you want it to. First of all it is powered by the sun, you have to put the solar panel where it will get sunlight to charge the fountain. It won’t pump with no sun. Next the fountains have a filter and that has to be cleaned out occasionally. If not it gets blocked up and the water won’t get through. no water, no fountain. I have read reviews where people say the ones they have don’t work. I wonder if they have kept up the maintenance, or read any instructions. It isn’t difficult to put together. If it runs out of water it won’t work either. ... show more

The pump itself works, and it's small, which is perfect for what I needed it for, but the cylindrical fitting for the nozzles to attach to is too big for the base of the pump leading to a wobbly fountain. So unless you have other attachment ideas, I would not buy as a standalone fountain.
