We were very nervous about buying a Murphy bed that we had to put together. We had read many reviews about other Murphy beds coming damaged and the instructions were difficult to follow. The boxes did have some dings in them, but the pieces were so well packed that there was not any damage to the bed itself. It did come in 5 boxes and they weren’t labeled as to which one had the instructions, so we did have to open all the boxes before we could start. We had a “handyman” put it together for us and it took him about 2.5 hours. He thought the directions were confusing at times, but on the whole he thought it went really well. We have not slept on the mattress yet and we are considering adding a foam topper for more comfort, but haven’t decided yet. We would highly recommend this product. For pre-fab furniture for the price/with mattress seems like it was a solid purchase. We did have trouble with some parts/drill holes not lining up but company was quick to send replacement pieces. Over all not too bad to put together. Looks nice when tucked in cabinet and easy to fold out for the bed. We’ve now had this bed for 5 years and it still looks great. We use it about 2 dozen times a year and couldn’t be happier. It’s very easy to open and our guests have said the mattress is very comfortable. The only negative is the extreme weight when you first get it.

The bad: The paint was spotty and uneven. The hinge was busted and cracked. NONE of the pieces were labeled. My best guess is they sent me a used product. There is no way contact these folk to air my complaint. If they gave me 20% of because they sent me a scratch and dent open box item I'd be happy. What could be good: If I overlook that this did not appear new...it was easy to put together, all mechanical parts work perfectly, and the price was right. The feel: I tried it out(135lbs 5,6 girl) with a friend about the same size. It held us fine, but it made concerning creaking sounds. Also the mattress isn't very comfortable. Not a long term option for sure, but just fine for us for short term. It's also pretty low to the ground. I think this won't be a great fit for my parents. Too low and not enough cushion. I'm thinking popping an air mattress on it will solve that. Why we kept it: We decided we'd just toss a air mattress on it and call it good enough. It's VERY convenient and folds up nice. Big space saver. I'd NOT buy this one again, I'd buy a nicer model. But I'm not about to pack it up and return it. Most of my displeasure surrounds the condition of it. I expected new and it was not not new looking. If I'd paid less for a scratch and dent, I'd have been very happy. I'll post some pictures ... show more

So far, so good. I was missing a box after I started putting this together. I notified the company and it arrived the next morning. I think the delivery person just forgot it on the truck with original delivery. This is a very heavy and sturdy piece. I had fun putting it together. I felt satisfied I could do it without help. It slept well. A little firm, but mostly for my grandkids, so they are fine with it. I would highly recommend this. There were a couple of dings, but not worth replacing. The bed came quickly and I was very excited to put together. Very, very heavy and I could not get the 5 boxes into my home without help. Thought I’d be able to put together myself, but nope. After receiving 2 of the same boxes and missing the correct 1 I had to contact the company and work out what I needed. They did handle the issue quickly. Trying to put together and I couldn’t figure out the drawer. I had to get a friend to help me and he figured out the problem. The track to slide the drawer was installed incorrectly. It was difficult to get to the screws to get it off. He figured a way to address it. After that it went pretty smooth. There are several flaws in the finish and the back panel was cracked. The crack won’t show so I decided to just keep it and the flaws on the finish I also decided not to make a fuss. I just used a stain pen on those areas. So for all the back and forth with the company and the error with the drawer it’s 3 stars ... show more

This is a well-designed and attractive unit that works great in the guest bedroom. It was packaged extremely well with foam and formed cardboard that protected the pieces (and their corners) very well. Assembly was a snap, though it does take a couple of hours, all parts fit perfectly and it even came with spare hardware too. The cabinet is solid wood with particle board used sparingly for the back cover piece, etc. It is simple to open/close the bed and the design provides for a very stable base. The drawer pulls out and its frame supports the base of the bed on both sides as well as top/bottom, an excellent design compared to other manufacturers. Two adults were quite comfortable and the bed was plenty stable/strong/durable. These features made this product better than many we saw that were 2x or 3x the price, it also includes an outlet & USB which is a useful feature. We also like the fact that the 1/2 of the top also flips open, reducing the feeling of being 'boxed-in' when you lay on the mattress. All-in-all, this is a great, fully complete unit that is well-constructed and reasonably priced. ... show more

Two minor complaints during assembly are no pre-drilled starter holes for hinges, and I needed to slightly modify latch positions because it was too hard to clasp.
