I do water research and have a team of kayakers of all sizes and body-types. The open sides and adjustable straps make this vest actually universal. The narrower shoulders makes it comfortable for kayakers, who need range of motion in the arms. One of my team was knocked out of her kayak by a strong current while taking samples, and the flotation provided was sufficient to help her recover control of her kayak and instruments. They felt about one size smaller than what we ordered, and the straps needed to be longer. They are a bit awkward to wear. Keeping in mind they were inexpensive, they are okay if you don't want to invest a lot of money for something you may not use often.
