I love these adjustable rakes, I've been using them for many years now. I have had many different ones over the years. How does this one compare? The main issue I've had with ones in the past is the part that holds the tines and locks it into place, That is where I've seen weaknesses, On this one, I think that part is excellent, see photos. The tines seem to be very well secured in place, and the locking mechanism held well, did not move or slide at all while in use. Better than any I have had before. One thing a bit different, the tines are not as longs as ones I've had in the past, which does two things, makes them stiffer and you cannot get the same range of width as others, Being stiffer, they may not be as good for spreading mulch in my perennial beds (my main use for these things) but I found it was very good at the initial spring clean up of the beds, the extra stiffness was a plus in that case. The other "thing" is the modular handles, I found initially one connection I could not get real tight, it actually came apart while using it, but then when I moved the parts around I got it so that all connections are very tight. Also they give you 4 extension pieces, I am 6' 4" and 3 pieces make it more than long enough for me, To me it is just one extra piece in case one gets stripped. This is something that will get a lot of use during the season, so if my opinion changes at all I will update my review ... show more

This rake comes in pieces, and you have to screw them together, which is very easy to do, and surprisingly they screw together, and they hold together, pretty well--Time will tell how durable they are, but I've had a rake like this before and it was cheap, this one really seems to screw together nicely and holds tight. Of course, you always have to keep in mind that it's screwed together while you're working, and don't twist it to the left, but that's not hard to do while you are raking. And this would be a rake for home use and not for a business, so its use won't be overwhelming, it's just the very long term where you'll see how well made it is. With all of the 3 handle pieces that screw into the middle section, the rake is SUPER long... too long really for me to use comfortably, and I am 5'11". I could see perhaps some instance where I might want to add the 3rd piece, like getting a frisbee out of my tree in the backyard, but for the most part, I'll only use the 2, which is a perfect length. And that's nice anyway, because if one of the pieces does get stripped and won't hold tightly together, I can just switch it out. The rake head is very sturdy and not like those really flimsy metal rakes you've probably used on leaves in the past. This thing can rake gravel and small rocks, which is what I used it for while testing it out, and it held together just fine. And the ability to push the head together into a narrower rake was perfect when moving the rocks or sort of digging up muck and leaves/garbage out of the rocks. Overall, for the price around $20 this rake is a good deal, and I almost gave it 5 Stars, but I took one off because the mechanism that locks in the rake head at the width you want is plastic; it's pretty tough plastic, but still plastic, and I wonder how the adjustment will work if it breaks. ... show more

    • Adjustable head makes this a flexible tool for yard work
The rake comes in 6 pieces - 5 rod pieces that screw together and 1 rake head. Assembly was easy. The rake with the head on is quite long, over 70" long. That is useful when raking out the furthest area of landscaped beds. The ability to make the rake head narrow (9") is also very helpful for beds with little room between shrubs and plants. Expanding to its widest (17") is easy - there is a tab at the base of the rake head that pulls out, and the metal tines push up. Lock the tab in place and now you have a rake for larger tasks. That said, this would not be my first choice for a leaf rake for a large lawn but it does work well for smaller lawns and landscaping. I am looking forward to using it once the weather is warmer! ... show more

This turned out to be the perfect size rake for my small back yard. I wanted a rake that would help me rake leaves but also clipping from trimming my plants. The metal tines on this rake are nice and stable and do a good job of picking up the debris. I like that I can fan out the tines or bunch them together to get into small spaces. This was a cinch to put together and I found I did not need all the lengths of pipe to make this the just right size for me. Perfect for my spring-time yard clean up. ... show more

    • Great for desert landscape. Super long handle.
I ordered this rake for my husband who hates raking leaves on our desert rock yard with a regular rake. It is difficult to separate leaves from rocks. He mainly uses a leaf blower/mulcher, but rakes when they are wet or stuck in the rocks. This rake in the smallest position, with the bar down works great on the rocks! He loves it. The rake tines are thicker than the tines on our old rake. They are more sturdy which helps prevent bounce back on the rocks. The handle is so long! It’s awesome. It is a sturdy metal handle. The only problem we foresee is the plastic lever that moves the bar up and down, will probably break someday. We wish this was also metal. ... show more
