My experience with dumbbells (of the mechanical kind and human kind) has been generally disappointing. For purposes of this review, I will talk only about the mechanical kind. If you buy dumbbells in specific weights, you need a lot of them--or you need to buy a rack which has every single one X 2 (one for each hand, right?) This is an expensive proposition, weighs a ton and takes up lots of floor space. But dumbbell free weight exercise is one of the best routines you can do for yourself and, for many people, are the center of their routines. This set is a clever remedy for the large, heavy and expensive problem. I have seen other sellers try to do what this one has done--but I think this is actually a no compromise solution for a home gym and it works perfectly. The set is super quality, comfortable to use and very secure. You will not be worrying about dropping weights since this locks the weight on when you lift it out of the base and holds it securely until it is returned. You can dial in whatever weight you want attached and you can do it with one hand--it's really simple to set up and speeds your workout since you don't need to fiddle with a weight rack or load plates. PLus you have every weight you need as you can adjust this in 2.5lb intervals up to about 30 lbs and then in 5lb intervals up to about 52lbs. Mechanically, this is excellent. From a space saving point of view it is economical and it looks great in the home gym as well. I think it is a good value too.
