I was so excited about these showing up that I had to immediately open the box and check them out. Gotta admit that I'm a little dismayed after their first impression. Here is what's on my mind...... Pros: The dumbbells are good weight, cleanly designed and stylish. Knurling on the handle assists your grip without hurting your skin & the handle size is a good length. Dumbbells are square, so there's no need for base plating (they don't roll around once set down). Weight adjustments are all smooth and very easy to perform, even one handed. All the weight plates and handles are clearly labeled with their individual weight amounts, making adjustment calculations simple (each plate is 1 lb and the handles weigh 3 lbs each). BIG Safety Concern: As far as I can see, the only thing holding the individual weight plates together on the dumbbells is basically that small plastic gray tab on top. There is a small, thin groove that each weight plate slides into with one another, however, if you turn the dumbbell upside down..... you can actually see daylight as the weight plates separate apart at the bottom. Furthering my concern that there is only the little gray spring loaded tab holding 1 to 4 lbs together (1 lb per plate, 4 plates per side of the dumbbell). My hope is that I am being overly cautious in my review. In reality, as a weight lifter, I know that I lift my own solid dumbbells over head every time. So the idea of 1-4 lbs of weight dropping off onto my toes or head doesn't ring in as appealing. I can also see that over time and use, whatever tiny little spring is underneath that gray tab making it spring back will eventually wear out. Hence the major concern I have for these dumbbells falling apart one day. I'm sorry, but as much as I love the quick adjustment convenience, I think there's a high aptitude for error and injury here. Either by human error or eventual mechanical failing, this set doesn't leave me feeling safe to workout with. ... show more
