These dumbbels are easy to adjust but simply turning the handle when it is sitting in the tray. Each weight adds 5lb to the dumbbel. Some of my workouts require 2 different weights (medium & heavy, for example) and this system enables me to pause the workout for a few seconds while I add or remove weight. My only criticism is that the fixed weight at ether end is big. I have small hands and it can be a little uncomfortable doing exercises that require holding 1 dumbbell in 2 hands. I've used these 3-4 times a week for nearly two years (22 months) and I've had no issues. They work as described. Would buy again, however, next time I may consider a set in 5 lb increments vs the 10 lb increment I originally bought. Just makes it easier to progress to next step at these lower weight values.
