Top Amazon Reviews

  • Ingenious
Size Name: 60"-96" wide openings over 6' high
I buy products on Amazon just about every day but this is my first review. I feel compelled to write about this product. I finished installing these gates today and I am in love. I bought three of them: 2 for a double and a single. The price is high but it's worth every penny in my opinion. 1. The gate is lightweight, hollow aluminum without losing strength. It looks like gym equipment material. I have helped install a custom fabricated metal gate and they are heavy which makes the whole thing just that more cumbersome to work with but also increases sag. The adjust a gate system is easy to work with and I installed the whole thing solo. 2. Flexible - this is the real power of this gate. I had to have my gates to a precise width and height. I had a top rail cap on my fence and I wanted the gate to match the fence; therefore I had to be precise. If I had something fabricated instead of this product and my measurements were off by a hair:; it would all be a waste. This gate served this purpose beautifully. 3. Comes with everything you need. I read online that the hardware (screws , wire support, latch) were bad. I was shocked when I felt the screws, latch etc. and determined this to be of great quality for a kit. I do wish they had a few extra metal screws because I used a lot for my latch system and ran out. 4. Packaged well - my 3 were all in white boxes packages in a brown cardboard box. All items were there. 5. Hinges are installed on the inside of your posts. Take a second to understand what that means because I didn't /wouldn't. This is beneficial because gravity keeps the gates on the hinge bolts and you can lift the entire gate if you need to for replacement or to get a large vehicle in or whatever. This type of hinges also are very strong and swing very well and quietly compared to other types. The hinges are recommended to be installed on the back 1" of the posts and open in. I didn't do that on my double gate because I used 6x6 posts and wanted the pickets to line up from fence to gate. My double gate will therefore not open all the way which is not a big deal for me as I absolutely wanted the front of the pickets to line up. Things to note: 1. Instructions could go in a little greater detail in a few areas. 2. Make sure you have a 1/2" spade bit for the hinges. You will need to go pretty far into the post with the spade bit for the hinges. For a 4x4 post, you go just short of going through the whole post. 3. If you want a professional looking gate that is lightweight, strong, and most of all flexible so that you can adjust not only for sag but for building it; I recommend this gate. 5 stars ... show more

  • Best gate EVER
Size Name: 36"-60" wide openings, 3'-4' high
We have made multiple purchases of this gate. They are very versatile (2 sizes and both are adjustable). They are easy to assemble and install. The quality of the materials is great. Weld spots are all sound, powder coat is very attractive. We have not had any issues with missing parts. Highly functional, durable, and reliable product. ... show more

Installation was easy. Took about two hours to hang the gate and install the fence pickets. Very solid gate. The kit does not include handles to open the gate.

  • Best option for Do-it-yourselfer
Size Name: 36"-60" wide openings over 6' high
I purchased two Adjust-A-Gates to create a double-door entry to allow storage of my trailer within my fenced in yard. They were purchased and installed in May 2012. I wanted to wait a few fonths to see how they held up before reviewing. To ensure the gates were not extended to their limits I spaced my gate posts about 9'-6" apart. I am glad I did. At that spacing I had to cut the 2"x4" braces to about 54" long. At that length, the gate was near it's limits. I do not see how you could effectively get a 60" gate without having gaps in the intermediate member and gate end members. Therefore I give the gate a rating of 4 stars. That issue aside, installation was relatively simple for one person. The boxes were slightly damaged upon arrival but all contents were there and the coatings in perfect shape. I found that laying all the components out at the job site to be extremely useful. The instructions are adequate as once you see the gate laid out installation would become obvious to most. The hinge pin installation was the most difficult part. Unless you have forearms of steel, ensure you have a length of pipe that will slide over the pin giving you a mechanical advantage when turning it into the post. I did not...a crescent wrench barely did the job the last few turns. TIP: Place a liberal amount of grease on the pins before setting gate on hinge pins The rest of the installation was a breeze. Install hinged gate end, attach top and bottom 2"x4" members, slide in intermediate steel members, attach opposite gate end to 2"x4"'s, center intermediate steel and screw into place, install center 2"x4", add anti-sage cable and tighten, check level, and install pickets. In all, it took me just over an hour to get both gates installed. Two months and half later in the hot south carolina sun and random afternoon thunderstorms, the gates have held up remarkably well. However, they will still sag no matter how tight you get the cable/turnbuckle. Therefore it is critical that you DO NOT IGNORE THE SPACING requirements in the instructions. The instructions recommend 1" clear, in my case, between gates. I think I had around 3/4" perfectly level along the height ot the gate. the top corners of the gates now just barely touch. It is not a problem for me and appears to have reached maximum sag. I did hang these gates on 6"x6" posts which I recommend everybody do. Gap/sag problems can be compounded by unfavorable warping of the more slender and susceptible 4"x4" posts resulting in 1" gap not being enough. Just some food for thought. In short, I think this is a great product worth of consideration when building a fence. Having built a custom gate for my fence in another location I can personally say this product makes the job faster and easier. I am confident my gate will hold up for years to come and recommend this product to all. ... show more

  • well designed

High quality and fairly easy for one person to assemble..very prompt customer support if needed..I wanted an outward opening gate and after completing assembly with my pickets, the gate opened about 100 degrees, which is enough for me...hinge brackets have been changed for easier installation..however now you no longer have the ability to position both hinge pins facing upward which I would have preferred..it would have made removal of gate, if desired, easier..now you have to buy an extra cost parts packet that includes hinges to have both hinge pins facing upward..I opted to use my beefier old gate latch so I can't comment on the included one..included screws seem to be high quality and I recommend drilling small pilot holes into your wood before attempting to insert screws..it takes a bit longer but worth it..finally be careful measuring your rough opening as there are several size options available..overall I think this product is excellent and should greatly extend the life of any gate.. ... show more

  • Perfect gate! Perfect gate!
Size Name: 36"-60" wide openings, 5'-6' high
Super easy to assemble. Works great on both my 5’ and 6’ fences. Had to use different screws for the latch and hinges due to my fence being in-line using a 2x2 attached to a steel post instead of a 4x4 wood post. Not a big deal at all though. I could not be happier with the result! UPDATE: As others have said in their reviews, the bottom hinge of my gates couldn’t hold the weight of the gate on their own and the gate slips down. HOWEVER, I simply used one of the leftover self tapping screws that came with the gate to secure the hinge to the frame. Several months later it is still very secure. I’ve since built another one and preemptively drilled one of the screws in this spot (photo attached) and it has not slipped at all. I still give this 5 stars, but please note you will likely need to do the same as I have to the bottom hinge. ... show more

  • Easy — why didn’t I do this sooner? Easy — why didn’t I do this sooner?
Size Name: 60"-96" wide openings, 5'-6' high
I bought this kit and it sat in the box because I did not want to tackle building a gate, especially to replace for a sagging gate and post. Little did I know this would be so incredibly easy to use. The instructions are clear and easy to understand And the hardware is very well manufactured. I did spray the hardware with a clear coat because I am in a rust-prone area and I read reviews that said that it does sometimes rust. The entire project, including removing my old gate and installing this one, took about a day. It probably would’ve only taken about two or three hours if I had started with a clean slate. You can do this in the morning or afternoon. Also, the upper brackets that hold the two by fours are not wide enough for thick cedar 2x4s. So I used treated pine, which slid into the brackets, just fine. It’s just something to be aware of. I did this project by myself. My wife came out to ensure the pickets were level and plumb, but the entire project can easily be done by one person with basic hardware skills. ... show more

  • The hinge knuckles are 5/8" *UPDATE SEPT. 2019*
Size Name: 36"-60" wide openings over 6' high
*UPDATE SEPT. 2019* - Yesterday I notice RUST running out of the adjustable metal tubing. The metal tubes come painted black and I used Rust-Oleum to paint them a tan color, so I thought there wouldn't be any chance of those ever rusting. Wrong! Water, apparently, gets INSIDE THOSE METAL TUBES and rusts them. So, today I'm going to take my clear Lexel caulk and caulk around the joints where the inner and outer tubes meet and hopefully that stops any further rusting. I just thought I would give new buyers a heads up. Cut the rust off at the pass and caulk the 4 joints where the inner and outer metal tubes slide together. Do it when you build your new gate so you never get any rust which could be bad news in the future. Original review: So I did have to take the hinges to a welder and have 9/16" hinge knuckles welded on to the hinge bracket because my hinge pins are built into a brick wall and they're 1/2". The new knuckles were made by drilling out a 5/8" steel rod to make a 9/16" knuckle. They fit perfectly and are HEAVY, HEAVY DUTY. This is a heavy duty gate frame. My son and I made my new gate last Sunday. It took us well over 7 hours because neither of us knew what we were doing. :) It actually turned out great. I didn't use the included latch because I have to have a two-way latch because the gate leads to my front door. I installed a thumb latch by adding a piece of a 2 x 4 and notching out the thumb lever hole. It works great. I also didn't use the turnbuckle and cable. Instead I bought the True Latch bar here on Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075XRNL18?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_yo_pop_mb_pd_t2 Though I'm not understanding how my metal gate could ever sag? Regardless, I've got the True Latch to install on the gate...just in case. I also bought stainless steel hardware because of the recommendations by other reviewers. I used 6" red cedar planks and red cedar 2 x 4s. I sealed the cedar with Woodlife Classic water based sealer - bought here on Amazon https://smile.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-00903-Woodlife-Classic-1-Gallon/dp/B000C029TI and painted 3 coats of paint. I'm hoping to avoid ever dealing with a gate that contracts and expands with every change of season... that's sooooo annoying. The metal frame should solve that problem, I hope! Another plus for this gate is the weight of it. It's probably half the weight of my old solid wood one. Also, Amazon definitely has the best prices on these, so save yourself some time and just buy it here. I looked everywhere for this gate and this is definitely the best price. Great gate so far and if that opinion changes, I'll update my review. ... show more
