How to switch s mode to windows 10 On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation. In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an ''Upgrade your edition of Windows'' section, be careful not to click the ''Go to the Store'' link that appears there.) On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button. After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store. I just went from a Windows 7 Acer laptop to this new Windows 11 laptop and the speed difference is unbelievable. I previously worked with Windows 10 at work before I retired and did not like it. I'm glad I went with the 20GB upgrade and it shows with the performance of this machine. I have a lot of learning to do with this operating system but that's OK. I wish this came loaded with word and excel but that's a small issue. I saw a comment from someone who said the screen was horrible. That person needs to go to the eye doctor. I PURCHASED ACER LAPTOP IN TEAL BECAUSE COLOR IS BEAUTIFUL (after decades of black computers!), AND COMPUTER KEYS ARE EASILY SEEN BECAUSE THEY ARE BLACK WITH WHITE LETTERING. COMES WITH WINDOWS 11 AND I SPENT A LITTLE EXTRA TO HAVE THEM INSTALL 20 MGB MORE MEMORY. IT WAS WORTH IT BECAUSE WINDOWS 11 DOES EVERYTHING AND ALSO HAS BUILT IN MICROSOFT DEFENDER ANTI VIRUS PROGRAM. I ALSO ADDED A WIRELESS MOUSE IN SAME COLOR; AND ADDED A CLEAR KEYBOARD SKIN TO PROTECT KEYS FROM DUST AND FOOD DEBRIS AND IT FITS LIKE A GLOVE! Capacity: 36GB RAM | 1TB PCIe SSD Color: Teal
To start with, I love the laptop. It's slim and lightweight but for a computer with a plastic case, it feels very sturdy. Set-up was a snap; everything ran smoothly. The keyboard is lovely; very smooth, soft touch and I find that it fits my hands just right. I like that it has a numeric keypad—always a plus with a notebook computer. The display is nice and crisp. I have vision issues but have no trouble focusing on this screen. I did hook it up to a larger monitor (an older one; I needed an HDMI to VGA adapter), though, because I found that I was leaning forward to reach that clear focus. That is a me-issue, though, and no fault of the laptop. The computer found the second display without any fuss. The built in display is actually much crisper than the large monitor's. There was also no problem with it finding my USB hub, external drives, mouse, or printer. This is my first experience with Windows 11. I haven't had any trouble at all adjusting to it. It seems quite stable. Almost everything is running smoothly. There are a couple of cons, though they're simple enough to work around. First, the write up on Amazon failed to warn that Windows 11 on this computer comes in S mode. I found out when I went to install my long-time favorite email program (Thunderbird). It was very simple to disable, really just the click of the button and accepting the warning that Microsoft pops up. I've seen no problems since disabling it. I did receive one pop up ad, for Norton Antivirus. As I already have a Malwarebytes premium subscription, I installed that with no issues, and everything seems to be fine. I am having some microphone issues. The internal mic, depending on what software I'm using, appears to have low (sometimes so low it's inaudible) volume. With some apps (Zoom, for instance), it's perfectly fine. However, others, notably the built in camera app, records sound at what sounds like 0% of volume, even though the sliders are all at 100%. You can tell that someone is talking, but it's just a barely audible buzz. I messed around with various settings and followed several different "fix-it" tutorials to no avail. I chatted with an IT-guy friend, and he was stumped, too. The only peripheral I have tried to hook up that doesn't register also has to do with the sound system. My old speakers. They have a single 3mm plug, and "should" work, but the laptop doesn't pick them up when I connect them. If I had another set of speakers or a mic, I could check that port more fully, but I don't. The internal speakers, while not overly loud, are fairly good, so I can work around it for now. There is no USB-c port on this computer. There is a little port in the pictures that I thought was a USB-c (right hand side, upper corner), but it's not (and I cannot figure out what it is; I've been searching documentation, so will find out soon enough, I'm sure). My son works in a local store's electronics section, and he said that almost all of the new model computers are coming with a USB-c port; he found it unusual that this PC didn't have one. (His own laptop, bought two years ago, does have one.) That led me to do some research on the model number. This Aspire 3 A315-8 model was first released in 2021, which means this may be a 2-year-old computer. It was not written up as refurbished, and I do believe it is a new, unused computer that was opened just to upgrade the memory and storage. I wonder if the seller scored a good deal on overstock from somewhere and upgraded the devices to pass along that good deal to customers. It is a very nice system, though, and I'm generally quite happy. I took off one star due to the above discoveries. However, Acer makes a solid, reliable computer, and I am hoping this one will serve my needs for a long time. I do think it will. Pretty color, too. ... show more

Pros 1. The teal color is so pretty. I was looking for a pretty color and this color is perfect. 2. There's a numeric keypad on the keyboard. 3. The setup is more secure than most computers I've had. 4. The case is not only pretty, it's also sturdy. Cons 1. The keyboard isn't backlit - and I really, really wish it was. 2. The video card isn't great. The screen flashes to refresh when watching videos, sometimes. 3. There's no option for fingerprint security. It's password only as far as security goes. 4.
