  • Great upgrade
Size: AXA, for Lathe Swing 6" - 12"
I describe myself as a machinist and grinder by trade. I've been employed at several different machine shops over the years. Mostly manual non CNC machines, but I do currently operate CNC at my employment. I am a grinder today. HOWEVER, I describe myself as a HOBBYIST with my lathe. It's in my garage at home, is old, and I still love it. I purchased this set to upgrade my "antique" Logan 8" swing lathe from the old turret style non-height adjustable 4 way tool post. The days of shims and limitations on how thick your tools can be before you have to grind the bottoms off are in my past.... well, within reason anyway.. 5/8 should be the thickest tool I will ever use. I've got all kinds of junk or scrapped tooling from over the years that vary greatly in their thickness, and I care not that the "recommended thickness of tool" for the size of my lathe, is anything... I just dont care. I specifically wanted to be able to use toolholders that accepted .375" IC indexable inserts. That meant that most of the tooling available would be 5/8" thick and unusable by my lathe without altering the toolholder. .. 1/2" holders are available, but have limited options for styles. I was currently only able to use up to .312 thick tooling before I had to grind the bottom off of my tool using the 4 way turret that's been on my lathe since 1960. I needed something different. After I recieved my set, and checked all my dimensions, I took my base plate and all of my "tall" fixtures to the grinder for final fitment.. heres why. The base plate for this post needs to be machined for your size t-slot on the compound. It's pretty large and is about the same dimension square as the post. That was expected, and I'm glad I could make a custom fit there, as my original was a little small and sloppy. I wish I had taken pictures of all that before I installed everything, but I had a side job for my lathe and time had me focused on getting paid, not on writing reviews. The "tall" quick changes... these claim for use with up to 5/8" tools or holders. 5/8 will fit in them, but you have to account for the thickness of the bottom part of those fixtures. My lathe center height from compound is .970" and with a 5/8 tool in the quick change, I measured 1.040" or somewhere thereabouts, which means these will need to be altered to be able to work. The quick changes are hardened, as they should be, so milling or filing anything is not a good idea. Not a problem for me, as I use a surface grinder at my day job and was able to take all of my tall QC to a dimension that allowed me to used the set of 5/8 holders from accusize I ordered at the same time. Had I ordered or used 1/2" or smaller tooling, no alterations would be necessary. Once everything was setup, I could tell this new post holder set was "life altering" . It is more rigid than my turret by far. The use of larger tooling helps too, but the rigidity is especially noticeable when I have my .250 square solid carbide installed. Tolerance can be held tighter much more easily. All that being said, I'm very happy with this toolpost. Less than half the cost of "premium" brands, and still of high quality. I dont have access to or own any other post like this one so I cant comment about interchangeability, but getting more QC fixtures from these folks is not an expensive endeavor, and when I get my next MTVO holder, I will be getting another dedicated tall QC and altering it the same way I did for the accusize holders. Hope my terrible photos help you in some way. They are showing what it looks like on my machine, the grinding off the bottom of "tall" QC with a 5/8 holder, and center height. The old turret can be seen off to the left in the pic of my centerline shot. ... show more

  • Great for hobby lathes!
Size: AXA, for Lathe Swing 6" - 12"
I purchased these as a gift for my dad to replace his lantern style rolling on his south bend. These are such a game changer, he mentions them every time he uses his lathe.

  • Very high quality tool holders and post
Size: AXA, for Lathe Swing 6" - 12"
I bought this for a Vevor 8.7x29 lathe and honestly I feel it is a little too big. Especially with 12mm tools. But the quality is great and I think with modification of the compound I can make this work. If I was to advise someone looking to buy this for that lathe I would say get the next smaller size. Either the compound or the bottom plate of the qctp needs modification to fit the qctp, but with the smaller one it would be easier. With this one you will need to remove a boss on the compound, reduce the height of the compound pallet and bore and tap a hole for the larger bolt that holds the qctp. With the smaller one you dont need to reduce the compound pallet height, just drill and tap for the bolt and bore a hole in the square bottom plate that comes with the qctp to fit the boss on the compound. And buy the 10mm tool set. ... show more

  • So so quality. Works great for hobby use. Not for actual precision machining
Size: AXA, for Lathe Swing 6" - 12"
Not sure what I got but the quality was not as good as other accusize brand tooling I have. Usually I’m pretty happy with it. This one was just horrendous. Maybe I’m spoiled with my Dorian brand tooling. Can’t compare the two…I know. But at least grind the flat surfaces on the tool holders. I suspect I got a knockoff. Box looked legit though. Not sure… Gonna go with shars on this one. My main lathe has all Dorian tooling. This one is going on an old smithy as a small hobby / backup lathe. Accusize tool holders are great though. ... show more

  • Good product.
Size: AXA, for Lathe Swing 6" - 12"
I had to mill off a strip about a quarter of an inch on end from both sides of bottom plate to get it to fit my Jet lathe. Also note that the hole in the boring bar holder is 5/8 inch in diameter.

  • Husband worthy
Size: BXA, for Lathe Swing 10" - 15"
I bought this for my husband, he uses with no complaints. It must work very well I never see him, he goes straight to the garage and machine until bedtime.
