I just bought a used Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver already knowing that they run hot from reading reviews. When I arrived home I immediately set it up and liked the sound. Within 30 minutes I put my hand on the top of the receiver and could not believe how hot it was. You could fry an egg on it. I knew this was not good. I then noticed that the side vents, one on each side, housed a fan each. The fans were not working. I believe this is one of the reasons Onkyo has a reputation for very hot receivers, inefficient cooling system. Replacing them would probably not be cost effective. I purchased this set of fans from Amazon and set them up vertically at the rear of the receiver, one on the left and one on the right, to push the air towards the front of the receiver and out of the cabinet (I have an audio visual cabinet with doors. I keep the doors open). This setup produced cooling and the fans were powerful enough to push the air out of the cabinet but the cooling was only fair. I was not satisfied since the receiver top was still hot, though not as hot as before. I now proceeded to lay both fans on the hottest sections of the receiver venting the hot air out of the receiver and was amazed at the results. The receiver cooled down so much that when I touched the top of the receiver I felt no heat. I ran my hand across the top of the fans and I felt the hot air being drawn out completely. By the way the setting I have it on is HIGH. I didn't try medium or low since this receiver produced atomic heat. The receiver remained pretty cool with this second setup. I just purchased another set to stand up at the rear of the receiver (as was my first setup) to push the hot air forward away from the front of the receiver, as I plan to elevate on 4 columns (4 black pepper shakers from Dollartree-perfect size-about 1/8" taller than fans) my turntable. It remains pretty stable. As mentioned previously, I have my audio visual components (8 in total) enclosed in a cabinet with doors. There is an open back and the doors swing out and to the side and back, out of the way, making it perfect for my rig. Will probably update with photos once everything is in place. Definitely recommend these fans. Especially for the price. I was going to buy AC Infinity's more expensive setup with the 3 fans that lays on top of the receiver and vents out the rear but didn't want to spend $119 for it. I read in the reviews that it was a little noisy and that thermostat is inaccurate. Two sets of fans for $30 and 4 black pepper shakers from the Dollar tree (come in a set with salt) for a total of $34 Will actually do a better job because you are using 4 fans this way, which can be Daisy chained compared to only 3 fans with the $119 rig. As a former Marine we are taught to improvise and improvising can save beaucou bucks. Wishing you the best and God bless. UPDATE:. Just received the second set of fans and set them up at the rear of the receiver to push the air out of the front of the cabinet. Fan setting is on high for all the fans. Works marvelously! Haven't purchased the pepper shakers yet from Dollartree (was there today and forgot-set it up earlier with two of the shakers-one salt white and the other pepper black-work perfect!) so I have the turntable set up on empty medicine bottles. Supports the turntable steadily. Bottom of turntable is not hot as air extracted upwards from receiver vents is immediately being forced forward by rear fans and forced out of the front of the cabinet. These fans are GREATTT! I can feel the hot air being pushed out the front when I stand in front of the cabinet. Feels like a furnace is on. Really glad I found these on Amazon because this is really a great receiver and was concerned that it would sizzle out on me. Now I have to figure out how to hide the wiring on the floor. Great for my Nintendo Switch and WiFi router

I decided to look into a USB powered fan after my last WiFi router literally fried itself to death (I had it in a ventilated area, it still died). I have my WiFi router, cable modem and switch all on a small shelf underneath a printer to keep them all out of sight (I don't play my Switch in portable mode very often). It was very easy to connect these fans to the USB port of the cable modem, and place them in a position to blow air onto the router, modem and Switch. These fans are tiny, and all they do is move air -but that's all you really need them to do; blow the hot air away. Anyway, these guys have been spinning non stop for a few months now on medium speed and they are still whisper quiet and doing a great job. My WiFi router gets only mildly warm and the Switch hums along happily too. (I recommend getting an upright WiFi router versus the ones that sit flat on the surface. I purchased a Medialink router that stands upright at a slight angle so the fan hits the entire surface area). The construction of these fans feels very solid, like something you could confidently install into a computer tower as well. I highly recommend these for any small-mid sized electronics you need to keep cool constantly. Note: I still don't think this would work for a PS4 because those suckers get HOT. You put that in a cabinet or a shelf and it overheats in less than an hour. PS4 still needs to be way out in the open. ... show more

really “cool” cabinet fan system

This is a really “cool” cabinet fan system. We have a custom built-in entertainment cabinet in our family room. The top section has the flat screen LCD TV with the Wii equipment and the middle section has an audio system, TiVo, CD player and a VCR, (I know why a VCR). The new TiVo and the 25-year old audio system generate a fair amount of combined heat that I wanted to remove. I did a search on Amazon for cooling fans and looked at several options. Having a system that was temperature controlled and could adjust the speed of the fans was very attractive so I decided to focus on that solution and was very impressed with the features of the AC Infinity products. I ordered the AC Infinity AI-ATC, Fan Thermostat and Speed Controller, MULTIFAN S7, Quiet Dual 120mm USB Fan, and MULTIFAN S5, Quiet Dual 80mm USB Fan. Everything arrived in two days; the three items were well packed and arrived safely. Now I could actually see and test what I got and found they were even better than I had expected. The controller is a perfect size and flush mounts in my equipment cabinet. The temperature probe has a long enough wire to run it down and over to place on the audio amp and under the TiVo where the maximum heat is generated. The fans have large rubber grommets on each corner to stand on or mount with and no vibration is transmitted through. One set of fans are in the equipment section behind the equipment blowing air out through the equipment towards the open room. The second set is located in the TV section also blowing from inside through the TV towards the room. Running at full speed in a quiet room you can of course hear the mechanical fan and wind noise. However, when the audio is on, even at a comfortably low, watch the news level, the fan sound level drops below the audio program level and is no longer discernable. With the controller running in the “smart” mode the fan speed is reduced when the equipment temperature is within two-degrees (or four) of the desired set temperature. As they say on TV “Just set it and forget it”, the controller keeps the fans running as long as the equipment is generating heat above the set point. When the audio amp is turned off and the TiVo goes into stand-by the fans cool them down and then shut off. When I am able to locate my hole cutting drill I will add some ventilating holes in the top of the cabinet and between the sections in order to improve the circulation of fresh cooler air into the cabinet to improve the efficiency. I am so pleased with this cooling solution that I am ordering another setup for our weekend summer cottage up north at the lake. Again, there is an audio system but in addition there is a Magic Jack phone module and the cable modem / WiFi router generating heat. They are in a confined space that gets hot so I had placed a small fan in there to circulate the air. When we are there, I plug in the Magic Jack and turn on the fan. Now I will be able to automate the cooling. If you are looking for a great way to cool down your expensive equipment this is an inexpensive solution that I highly recommend. ... show more

Not Exactly What I Wanted But a Good Product

I did not realize that this is an inseparable set of 2 fans that cannot operate independently of each other. There is only a single USB plug. Maybe I missed that fact before purchasing but the Amazon listing does not make it obvious either. But, I was able to find a use for the set. I use one to cool my cable modem and the other to cool the router. Since they are located near each other, I can use this as a set. I am not sure how this will work out if one of the fans fail but will just cross that bridge whenever. The set of fans is well made. As mentioned, there is only one USB plug for the power source. I am using the USB jack on the router. But, there is a female USB jack built into the wiring harness for the fans that could be used to provide power to another device. I am not using that but it is a nice-to-have feature. The slide switch for the fans provides OFF, LOW, MEDIUM AND HIGH settings. On LOW, the fans are silent but do not move much air. On MEDIUM air movement is reasonable with only a slight sound. On HIGH there is a good air flow but the sound is clearly audible. This is a good product if you need a SET of fans that work as a pair. I will look for a single fan from this supplier since the fans work so well and the rubber feet make them even easier to use. ... show more

Great set of fans, I bought the dual 80mm fans with remote. They're the perfect size, I have the settings set to high. Don't worry, these fans are quite. I'm using one to push air into the bottom of my system and the second one as an exhaust.

Cooling my modem and router

My last cable modem up and died after just one year, I'm pretty sure because it got so hot all the time. It was a modem+router so extra hotty-hot-hotness from all the circuitry packed into one case. My son thinks this is sort of normal lifespan for routers and modems - he expects only 3 to 4 years. Well I got 8 years out of one of my last modems and 10 out of the other (same modem, WTGS54 whatever that was, it was a very good modem for its time and I got more than enough throughput from it for my needs, including streaming video, I was still running one up until 2 years ago). So *I* was shocked at its short lifespan (especially given the cost, over $200) even if he wasn't. There is just more electronics involved in these tasks, packed into less space, than the older modems. They are GOING to get hot. So in order to keep that from happening again I bought this USB fan kit, comes with 2 fans hooked together, to replace the floor fan I had aimed at the new modem and separate router. I was getting some of these anyway to put on my LED grow lights to cool them (they will ALSO last longer if you keep them cool) so I took one of those and shoved it under the router (because its a flat design, give me vertical any day) and stood the other one up next to the cable modem (which is vertical). I've got them on low and they are cooling both devices very well. On low the router gets barely slightly warm, and the better design of the vertical case for the modem leaves it totally cooled down with this little fan. If I had it to do over I'd look harder for a vertical router as well, its easier to keep them cool. AND they take up a lot less space! I've got a bunch of old computer cases with fans going to waste, I will likely make some USB fans from all those old bits and pieces, but they are likely to be a lot louder. This fan is extremely quiet even on high. I can't hear it at all on low. Also these fans in particular are optimized for humid environments so I wouldn't use anything else in my grow room. A lot of people use the other dual fan kit with the larger fans but they are using them to move air over microgreens to cut down on mold and fungi, I don't have that problem, I just need to cool the lights to improve their longevity, so I'm trying these smaller fans (take up less headroom over the lights, giving me more space under the lights because I can move them further up). I highly recommend cooling your router/modem/game console whatever electronic devices you have sitting around generating heat with some kind of fan, and these are very quiet, easy to assemble (as in plug them in), and very effective. I've seen some people insist that you shouldn't do this because it might "blow dust into the case" - where do these guys live, in the middle of death valley? LOL! Just do it. I've had a floor fan blowing across my very very ancient laptop to keep it from overheating for about 5 years now (even laptop coolers can't cool it enough) and its still going strong. I can even play (very very old) games on it still. Heat will kill your devices WAY faster than whatever tiny specks of dust these fans probably won't blow into the cases anyway. Also, if you have one of those stupid refrigerator closet things where they've built an enclosure all the way around the fridge, that is trapping heat and shortening the life of your expensive stainless steel fridge - you can use these fans to draw hot air out of that too (though I'd go with the larger version for that). Personally I'd tear that crap out but failing that, install these in a side or back wall and pull that heat out of there. Your fridge will thank you. Your bank balance will be the better for it over the long haul. ... show more

Really nice fans, high quality, and do the job quite well!

Very nice quality dual fans. I'm using them on top of my Dayton APA150 amplifiers. I purchased 2 sets of the dual S5 fans. On the top of each of my 2 Dayton APA150 amplifiers is about a 5" x 6" vent pattern. Using Thermaltake magnetic fan filters, I have the front one set as intake, and the back one (sitting right above the heat sink inside the Dayton) is set as exhaust. The Dayton amplifiers are on for 12 hours or so a day, and always were quite warm to the touch, not hot, but warm enough to know it's not good for them. After adding the AC Infinity Multifan S5s, at the end of the day, the Dayton amplifiers are as cool as if they've only been on a couple of minutes. Quality of these fans is really nice. I'm not real picky on noise level so I'll say this, when no music, movie, or game is running, I can hear them, but they are not annoying at all. Once I'm doing anything with music, or watching a movie, or gaming, I don't even hear them. Overall, great product, does what you hope it will do, and looks nice too. The only issue I had was, using both sets linked together off one AC Infinity Turbo Fan Power Adapter. The first set inline ran fine, but when the second set was getting it's power from the first set, it seemed the first set was running on medium speed and the second set on low speed. So for the $7.99, I just purchased a second AC Infinity Turbo Adapter. Now both sets are running on their own line, and both at the same speeds. It's just the way I am, not a requirement, but when I held my hand over the first set, I could feel the cool air, but over the second set, I actually had to look at it to make sure it was running. Now I feel both equally. Definitely would buy these again if I need more for another setup. ... show more
