  • 4.0 out of 5 stars A solid no-frills KVM switch BUT could use one big feature
Color: Blue
This is a simple and well-built KVM switch for one simple use case - connect one set of keyboard, mouse, and monitor to two PCs and switch between them. It comes with a good set of USB3 and HDMI cables for each computer. It has a solid feeling metal case and one button to switch between computers. It's powered by the connected PCs so no additional power is needed. My surge protector thanks Ablewe for this. The PCs connect to one side, we'll call it the rear, and the keyboard, mouse, and monitor to what we'll call the front. It would be nice if they all connected to one side, but then the switch would have to be physically larger, so I understand the tradeoff. The biggest problem I have is that the switch button requires that the KVM be placed within reach (seemingly on the desktop, although I guess I could mount it underneath and reach under to hit the button by feel). This means that cables have to be on my desk more than they would without the switch. How would one switch without the button? I'm glad you asked. On KVMs I previously used, you could press a hotkey (for example, double-tap the rarely used Scroll Lock key) to switch devices. Since I had that years ago, it's something I assumed would exist today, but that assumption seems to be incorrect. I couldn't find anything in the documentation or through guessing keys that would work. The added convenience of being able to use one monitor for my other PC is worth working out the wiring, though. In use, this KVM switch is simple and it just works. Press the button and the computer swaps. This does take a few seconds depending on the computer - it seems to be recognizing the USB devices as if they were just connected and in the case of my laptop also activating the secondary display. This translated into about 3 seconds to switch to my desktop and about 6 seconds to switch to the laptop - not instant, but not slow enough to require any real patience. Overall I like this switch quite a bit. It adds flexibility to my workspace for intermittent use of another computer from my regular spot. If it had a hotkey so I could tuck all the cables away, it would be perfect. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, clean
Color: Blue
This switch does NOT claim to support higher refresh rate with lower resolution, so I can't ding it here for that. I love the inclusion of cables in this kit, as that is usually the most expensive part of setting up a KVM switch. The finish and feel of the device is nice, and the button seems durable. I do not like how neither side of the device is flat, so undermounting this on a desk is not as easy. You would have to stack up some sticky tape to get it up to height where you can connect it properly. Great switch overall though. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars The little KVM that can!
Color: Blue
This is your basic, no-nonsense KVM. It doesn’t have a lot of frills, but it just works. It comes with all the cables you need (2 USB, 2 HDMI -- they are each about 3ft long). The unit is tiny and light weight, but the case is metal. It supports a single monitor, keyboard, and mouse that is switched between two computers. But, those two USB ports are both 3.0, and it supports 4K at 30Hz via HDMI. Notably, it does not need external power. It can get its power from the host PCs right over the USB cables (or HDMI cable). Of course this means, it can’t source any more current than the host PC can, so I wouldn’t recommend trying to charge your phone from one of these ports or run other high power devices. It only has the two USB ports, one for keyboard and one for mouse, but you can always plug in a USB hub if you need more. I tested this with a wireless keyboard/mouse combo dongle, and it worked perfectly. Since this is a very basic KVM it doesn’t have a separate audio output or microphone input. The audio carries over your HDMI cable, and your destination monitor will either need to have speakers, or an audio out (or you can just keep running your audio from only one computer and not try to switch it, which is what I do). One interesting thing to note is the switch time. Switching from input 1 to 2 takes about 3 seconds. But switching back from input 2 to 1 takes about 6 seconds. The difference in switch time depending on the direction seemed odd for me, but it’s not a big deal. Maybe it has more to do with the actual PC's than the KVM, I don't know. There is a little blue LED on either side to let you know which side is active. I’m not taking off any stars for lack of higher-end features, because this is obviously intended to be a bare-bones, super-simple KVM, and it is! Final Rating: 5 stars! It just works – I didn’t even need to read the manual. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Instant setup, great look!
Color: Blue
I've used KVM switches before and I wasn't expecting this to be anything better or worse than the usual and for the most part it wasn't. But it came precisely as advertised and switches instantly. On my other switches, there's always a weird delay (some kind of microcontroller problem) and on this one, things are instant. I've tested it on video output and audio output (headphones vs speakers) and it was seamless and flawless. I also had it switching between a PS4 input and PC input to my central monitor and that was also instant. In both cases, any lag/delay was due to the hardware being switched between, not the KVM switch itself. It doesn't hurt that it looks nice on my desk, either. I've recently moved and my setup is in flux. In about a week, I will update this review with some pictures (and whether or not I encountered any issues, which is highly unlikely) edit: Updated with picture. This is my current use case. I'm alternating between headphones and external speakers with the press of a button. The external speakers are also receiving their power through this connection. Excellent product. ... show more
