I was leery from the start and probably spend 20 hour researching car ports.. This was simply to store my boat underneath in the snowy/cold Minnesota winters. For years I had a series of plywood boards I used under the tarp on the boat to support the snow, but always had to scrape off the snow. And in the summer, with no wood, everytime it rains it would collect in the middle and I would have to scoop it out all the time. This was easy to assembly by myself, though I did need a buddy to come over to raise it up. I loved all of that part. But....I quickly realized that that TOP tarp was way too short. All this time with the assembly and I could only secure the one end with the enclosed straps. So temporarily i had to go buy very long zip ties. My estimate was that the top was a solid 6 inches short!!!!!!!! I got this up late in the fall before winter. But that is where the hell began. They claim to have excellent customer service. Sorry, I disagree. This was like dealing with a foreign government! They kept asking me for PROOF that it was too long. For more measurements. At times almost accusing me of not knowing how to use their tie downs. And then, when you think they have more than enough with the 12-15 photos I just sent again.....then they stop communicating. Then when I got them again, they started over with needing more pictures. This was a nightmare. Eventually, they stopped playing games with me and sent me a new top/roof tarp. I asked them many times if they would please measure it before sending it to me. They would never, never agree to that. Unfortunately by the time I got that it was way too late in the year. So that box with the new roof tarp is sitting unopened on my workbench in the garage. I will not even ATTEMPT to replace that until early summer. Okay, that was the customer service and their horrible measurements. Now let's talk stability. The first thing I realized is how cheap they were with the supplies. The stakes they give you are stupid little 6 inch wire stakes that would not even hold down a little one man pup tent with a 10 mph cross wind. some with their tie down rope. It was horrid!! Now, based on reviews of this one and others that are similar, I already was prepared for that. I went and bought 100 feet of good quality 1/4" strong nylon rope. Then I purchased a 4 pack of the 7Penn 16" spiral ground stakes. Then I purchased the 16 count pack of the Trident Fence 18" rebar curved stakes. So on each of the "FEET" for each of the 8 upright poles, there are TWO 1/2" holes. Perfect for me to be able to sink 2 of the rebar stakes (they are 3/8" thick) deep into the ground. So with me buying all new rope, 18 rebar stakes for the 8 poles, and 4 spiral ground stakes to hold each of the four corners......and discarding the literal crap they sent.....everything seemed solid. Kind of...... It has now been up all winter long. And we have had a RECORD BREAKING year of snow. I was warned about snow well in advance. So every time it snowed 4 or 10 inches....I went out there and carefully got the snow off of the tarp. Remember, this is very flimsy material!! So even with 4-5 inches of snow, you could see it weighing down the tarp between the poles a lot. You CANNOT skip this step!!!! Or your roof will tear and shred. Guaranteed. As for the ropes and stakes. They are holding okay. I think that I will have to tighten up the 4 corner ropes this spring again. They ahve stretched some. No problem. Now....if you look at the tarp you will see that they have a long skinny piece that comes down each of the four corner poles and attaches towards the bottom into a little hold. Well.....all four of these have broken off and are flapping in the wind. I am not as concerned about this, but I also don't know if I can figure out a work around for those. I may have to cut them off at the top. The bottom line is this was not cheap. But, it was far cheaper than building a steel shelter. The sad part is that I would have gladly paid more to have them provide the good quality stakes and ropes, not to mention a roof that was the correct length. It is simply sad, that's all. But please don't rely on what they supply. It is way too cheaply made. It would not withstand even a 30 mph wind. And we had some big storms with 60-70 mph winds and this made it through just fine. But....ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BEEFED UP ITEMS I INSTALLED!! Oh, one more thing to note.... I was advised by a number of friends that have used something like this unit and they highly advised that I DO NOT INSTALL the sides or the front or back portions. They said with the high winds it will either lift that right off the ground and blow it away, or at minimum it will have so much resistance that it will bend those cheap aluminum poles into pretzels. Again. I highly beefed this up and did not put on the sides or ends.. So the wind just whipped right through the thing. But it keeps off all of the rain and the snow, not to mention leaves and twigs from the trees. And THAT was the ultimate goal. In the end, I just don't know what will happen. If this makes it through several winters, great. But I will probably build a solid steel one the next time and make it more permanent. One other tip I heard about, was this. I watched a great video from a dude that had many of these on his property. He talked about the wind and the UV rays and basically stated that no matter what you put on there for a cover.....the sun is going to eat it alive, and the wind will shred it. But his trick was this. He went and bought a nice heavy duty tarp that fit completely over the entire roof and he tied that down with ropes and stakes. he said that cheap tarp that cost $20-25 (far less than a new one from this company for $80) would last 2-3 years instead of 1 year. And when it finally got tore up....he'd just go buy another cheap HD tarp and put it right back on. His comment was that the original cheap tops would last for 10 years, and he did not mind paying for the cheaper tarps to block the sun. I will do that next summer. ... show more

As I suspected with enough leg work on my part the issue did get corrected. This seemed to be more of an issue with the manufacturer than with Amazon. Unless you live in an area that NEVER gets wind and you plan to leave this thing up DO NOT BUY this unit. It would be fine for temporary coverage, like parties and barbeques, but it DOES NOT have the proper engineering to be a carport full time. Second update: can't get money back or warranty honored, do not buy. Update review: The sides, front, and back of this thing gave up the ghost in a minor windstorm because they consist of a small number of loops made out of the same tarp material as the roof and sides. This gives them no stretch or give which causes them to tear. I had to remove everything but the roof to keep them from turning into giant flags since once one weak loop goes the rest follow. This wouldn't be so much of an issue if I didn't get the run around from customer service. I was told I couldn't get replacement parts and I would have to contact amazon who told me they couldn't do anything as it's outside the return window. Now Abba patio isn't responding to my emails, and amazon has basically left me out to dry (which is hard when your carport has no sides.) I'm extremely disappointed with the product and the customer service from Amazon and Abba and would recommend you go get something from a better store and manufacturer who will properly back their products. Original Review: 3 stars The good part is that it's a relatively sturdy frame and decent tarp thickness. The bad part is that the ground stakes that come with it are pretty pointless and mine is missing a zipper handle. If you try to use the supplied stakes and you get hit with any reasonable wind you're going to watch this thing turn into a kite since the stakes are basically a small thin pin. Thankfully I had tied the frame to a lot of cinder blocks so it couldn't become one with the clouds. That is of course if you can get the things to go into the ground without bending, the stakes are really really thin and weak. Not impossible to set up with one person, but pretty difficult. It's also really tough if you need to get the tarps off it or back on it once it's erected (see aforementioned wind). As far as securing it, if you've got great ground and you pick up some really good stakes it might do ok. I decided to do cement bases with bolts set into it after it tried to do it's best impression of a bird. If it didn't have a messed up zipper I would have given it 4 stars, but the quality issue combined with the other short comings bring it down.
