Description

In this electrifying novel, New York Times bestselling author and “an important voice in American literature” (Jada Pinkett Smith) Sister Souljah returns to the story of her beloved character, Midnight. Handsome, young, Muslim, and married to two women living in one house along with his mother, Umma, and sister, Naja: can Midnight manage all that he has on his plate? He is surrounded by Americans who don’t share or understand his faith or culture, and adults who are offended by his maturity, intelligence, and his natural ability to make his hard work turn into real money. He is calm, confident, and cool, Ninja-trained and powerful, but one moment of rage throws this Brooklyn youth into a dark world of dirty police, gangs, guns, drugs, prisons, and dangerous inmates. Everything he ever believed, every dollar he ever earned, and all of the women he ever loved—including his mother—are at risk. Will his manhood be taken, broken, or altered? Can he maintain his faith? Outnumbered, overruled, and deeply envied—how can he possibly survive? Will the streets convert him? What can he keep? What must he lose? Read more

  • A journey
Format: Kindle
It takes you around the stories of Midnight evolving into an individual of many talents. He becomes something more than just a Sudanese boy providing for his family. It explores the elements of the system. Exposing how things aren’t black and white but shades of gray. It made me realize even though a young man can be strong, intelligent, & discipline but still so naive to functions of the world. It’s a great read and I encourage others to pick it up. ... show more

  • I love Midnight but I wish I didn't real The Coldest Winter Ever first!!
Format: Hardcover
This series has been in my heart since the first book. I was so intrigued by Midnight in The Coldest Winter Ever and I was hoping and praying for an exclusive story involving him only. That being said, I was REALLY disappointed in the way this one ended. I hope this is not the end of the story. I really didn’t have much love for the second wife. I know it’s his culture and custom and a part of who his character is to take another wife but the American woman in me only saw her only as a side bitch (I’m not ashamed of that feeling) and I couldn’t find any love for her character. She was just a chick who “invaded” another woman’s marriage. I thought she brought a certain amount of tension to the household. Not for him since he got the benefit of sharing a bed with 2 different women. I didn’t like that this book began and ended with her. Her dysfunctional, overly educated pseudo intellectual family members didn’t help her cause either. There were a few things unresolved such as the fact that in A Deeper Love Inside, Midnight mentioned that he had 3 wives and I thought we would meet the third wife (side bitch 2) in this book. I was glued to the other 2 books and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This book was no different. In spite of the back and forth feel of the chapters going in and out of the past and present, I didn’t have a hard time following the storyline. I didn’t like not spending more time on Akemi’s character. We didn’t get to experience her having her children, the sex of the children or anything. In spite of the very few flaws, all in all this was a very good book. If you are not familiar with the Midnight series, check out The Coldest Winter Ever and then start the Midnight series including A Deeper Love Inside: The Porsche Santiago Story. In spite of a few hiccups, I do enjoy this series and I’m looking forward to the next installment. ... show more

  • Worth the read, just pay attention
Format: Kindle
*spoilers* (please skip if you haven't read) I'm going to play devils advocate on this one. I really enjoyed this series because to me it's very well written, yes it can seem almost impossible but well written nonetheless. It does seem confusing in comparison to "The Coldest Winter Ever", but again playing devil's advocate. What I think may not make sense but then again maybe it does to someone. In TCWE, he wrote in his letters about his time in prison etc. Is it possible he used someone else story to throw off the truth about himself to Sister Souljah? Maybe he lied to her about his wife and children because he didn't want her to know much about his personal life as he also did with his best friends. They had no clue about multiple wives so why would he tell sister souljah, a woman he just met. Same as far as his mother's story goes; she wasn't a drug mule but Lavidicus' mother was and her story is parallel to what he wrote in his letters. He has a general contempt for American women and Americans in general but you have to see it from his perspective; He was raised in a country with morals and values of a certain extent (not downing anyone just again devil's advocate) so of course he's going to feel some type of way if he was raised in a different environment. He's use to a certain type of class if you will and to interact with the women and people he interacted with rubbed him the wrong way. I like to see the difference which is what attracted me to his character. He's devout in his views and he refused to change who he was to comfort someone else. I do believe a fourth book would tie all loose ends together, time will tell if it happens. With most of the anger or disappointments I've seen in other reviews i think Sister Souljah proved her point as far as judging someone because they refuse to comprise to what you want and believe. Granted he's not real but it's something to think about. I greatly enjoyed not only this book but the other ones as well, I do believe some things are a little far fetched but she's telling the story she wants to tell. I loved it, so it really comes down to what you get from it. ... show more

  • The best so far
Format: Kindle
I think this is the best book so far in the Midnight series. Souljah has seemingly toned down some of the unbelievable antics and triumphs of Midnight. Although he is still young and wise beyond his years, readers should now be comfortable with his precociousness. He is still a devout Muslim and Islam is consistently held up as superior to Christianity, at least in the eyes of young Midnight. So, along with the usual interaction with sister, mom and wives including erotic moments, we are introduced to Chiasa's(the second wife)black side of the family in NY. Some interesting dynamics are initiated with the interplay between Midnight and his in-laws. The little twist that is created by this plotting will obviously lead to more installments of Midnight, with the ending creating an opening to veer in many different directions. There are a lot of reflections, looking back on the first two episodes in this series; and so the current and present tense flow doesn't account for more than half of the book which clocks in at a hefty 544 pages. While some of the flashbacks-reflections-tend to make the novel drag with familiarity, it never feels burdened enough to label it boredom. This installment finds Midnight doing time in jail and gives Souljah ample space to rift on the injustices of the prison system, the ills that continue to plague the Black community and the contradictions that all men live with. She even takes the time to have real life Lisa visit the jail and make a speech that has all inmates screaming with approval. In her visit Lisa states: “Brothers and sisters, we gotta get our hearts right. Love the right things. Hate the wrong things. Brothers, we gotta get our minds right. Read the right books. Write the right words. Rhyme the right lyrics. Sing the right songs. Speak the truth, Brothers! We gotta get our souls right. Praise the right God . . . ’Cause if you are telling me that you are God, you better be the solution and not the problem.” Her writing skills have sharpened and will soon match her storytelling ability, a combination that will certainly garner her many more fans. This series is clearly aimed at young African-Americans particularly young black men and hopefully they are reading and using Midnight as an example of what may be possible for them in their own life. She strikes just the right balance between entertainment and education and perhaps young people can learn some things while also finding joy in reading that resonates with their own life. ... show more

  • Can I get a moment of silence please?
Format: Hardcover
A Moment of silence deserves just that, a moment of silence. It showed us how powerful deep thought and reflection could be and how profound silence is. I love Sister Souljah books not because of hot steamy sex scenes and a depiction of the thug and his down bitch. But because Sister Souljah makes you think past that. Because she gives you an example of a real man, a strong woman, true love and a strong faith. If after reading her books you don't want to find yourself & reevaluate your ways then the book went completely over your head. Not everybody is ready for sister Souljah or her message. The black man should be the head of his family, he should provide, protect, and love his family especially the women in his life. The women should be his help mate & backbone of our men and family (see proverbs 31.) Although Midnight is of the Muslim religion their beliefs are not too far from our Christian beliefs (look past what you have heard on TV of terrorist and the fact they have more than one wife. Instead focus on why they believe the way they do and the purpose. Now reflect on your Christian beliefs. Is there much difference?) I hope the wait is not too long for the next part of this series. If you want to read something that touches your spirit then read this but do so with an open heart and mind! #HappyReading ... show more

  • Trilogy Series of Midnight
Format: Hardcover
I just would like to clear a matter from the last review by Saint-mom. This book is part three of three book series and she clearly hasn't read any of the other books after the coldest winter! The two other books are "Midnight True meaning of Love" & "Midnight Love Story" you would definitely have to have read those two books to understand this last book from Sistah Soldier. She expounds on the story of him and his family, unlike the other lady I don't want to give anything away. I read the book in two weeks, that's how good it is. You have to go along with the story, it is really thrilling towards the end of the book. I totally recommend that you get this book because it sums up the story from the three books that's why it's a trilogy not just the story after the coldest winter. I really hope this clears up any confusion anyone may have sister soldier is an excellent writer she takes you on a journey with her stories from me it's like I'm right there in the different countries going on the journeys with midnight. I totally love her what she does for the reader by placing you in ever science. And I am hoping that there's another book after this one LOL!!!!😀 ... show more

  • Awesome!!!!
Format: Kindle
I'm not to happy about the ending I feel like I have to many questions unanswered. What happened to akemi? What about the twins? What decision did midnight make? Did he ever return home? Ameer, did he become muslim? What about naja? Does she get along with Chiasa now? Did Sudana still have a thing for him? Is there another book? Now we know that Chiasa was pregnant after all, but did Akemi leave? This book seems to be more about Midnight and Chiasa, and not much mention about Akemi. Shes a very important part of this situation. What happened with Umma living with the 2 Akemi, Chiasa and 3 babies. Did Akemis father ever come after her? The questions go on and on. ... show more
