This is probably the best spade I've ever owned, and I've had a few. The straight edge blade is great for getting clean edges on a hole if you need it and the foot support on the back of the blade is brilliant if you need that extra push to work on harder soil. The shaft and hand grip are bigger which is appreciated for my XL hands. I would definitely recommend if you use a spade a lot and are sick of the floppy blades and too short spades if you're taller. This probably isn't the best if you are a little old lady working on your vege garden, it's a solid, reasonably heavy tool.

I dont normally write reviews for anything but this shovel is the acception. I worked landscaping professionally for 5 years and during that time dug large tree bowls into gravel exclusively. The company I worked for didnt have a single shovel break out of 20 or so for the 5 years I worked there and the 15 or so they've had them total. These shovels had about the hardest life a shovel can encounter and might as well have been new minus some paint and cutting edge metal (from sharpening) some 15 years later. Will last multiple lifetimes for the DIYer and professional alike. Purchase this and save yourself the headache of buying multiple 50 dollar chinese shovels and support American tradesman.

This is a heavy duty digging shovel. It doesn't work great for scooping, but excels at digging holes in tough ground. It is on the heavy side and will give you a good workout, but the weight is an advantage in digging into hard ground.

I bought this because I get a little aggressive applying leverage sometimes. I'm only doing transplants these days, but I'm impressed so far... there is no noticeable flex at all, I feel like it's going to hold up well

It's not a light weight shovel, or a shovel designed to move dirt or mulch. It's a digging spade that can chomp through roots, pry out rocks, and last forever. It fits my hand and height well (I am 5'10"). I have been using this, or the shovel this one copies (King of Spades) for over 30 years. I still have my original King of Spades shovel from 1985. You can't break this shovel if you tried.

Same terrible spade & design being sold by all the other competitors. Don't be deceived by A&M Leonard. They didn't make this, a factory in China did, and they make all the other products with the same exact molding. Compare them, they are nearly identical. The center shaft is hollow, meaning if you pry on it too hard when shoveling, it will bend like a straw. Not indestructible, like others claim. Bad design. You can get this for a third of the price from another brand, and you'll have the same product in a different paint scheme.
