Good stout shovel.

This is a heavy duty digging shovel. It doesn't work great for scooping, but excels at digging holes in tough ground. It is on the heavy side and will give you a good workout, but the weight is an advantage in digging into hard ground.

After 20 years of working as a master gardener, I upgraded to this spade. I did all my research, read all the reviews and made my informed decision. I'm not writing to diminish the quality of this spade but to make potential buyers aware that this does NOT arrive out of the box sharp. Upon my first use I was shocked at how dull it was. I emailed the company and was told the blade had a protective coating that would wear off with the first use revealing the factory sharpened blade. My first use was 3 hours of stripping sod and edging a flower border. I was excited to think the more I worked the sharper the blade would be. This is not the case. The blade is still as rounded as the sides. Not sure what the company means by pre-sharpened but a better term might be "half-sharpened". My spade may have been a factory defect and will definitely require professional sharpening to be of use to me. I contacted the company again to make an update and ask for advice. The product support representative was very courteous and offered a refund which I accepted. On the positive side, I will say this spade is heavy and powerfully strong. I feel sure it will last a lifetime.

I was an irrigation & landscape grunt for 5 years. We slung these shovels all day every day and beat them to heck. They stood up to the job every time. Buy this spade for every homeowner you know. It makes a great housewarming gift & it will last a lifetime.

I dont normally write reviews for anything but this shovel is the acception. I worked landscaping professionally for 5 years and during that time dug large tree bowls into gravel exclusively. The company I worked for didnt have a single shovel break out of 20 or so for the 5 years I worked there and the 15 or so they've had them total. These shovels had about the hardest life a shovel can encounter and might as well have been new minus some paint and cutting edge metal (from sharpening) some 15 years later. Will last multiple lifetimes for the DIYer and professional alike. Purchase this and save yourself the headache of buying multiple 50 dollar chinese shovels and support American tradesman.
