  • Just what our studio has been looking for!
These books are exactly what we have been looking for. Our studio, Fox Music Instruction (find us on Facebook), has a focus on inspiring our students to explore the depth of expression found in classical music. Because of this, we have found it somewhat difficult to source arrangements of classical masterpieces that are appropriate for the level of our students. These books address that need wonderfully. There are around a dozen "First books" focusing on a single composer's works and two other books that are more general and help students explore many different composers' works in the same book. The only downside to the series is that there are no offerings specifically suited to primer or early level 1 students. These books are more levels 2-4 approximately. However, that does not detract from the value of what is offered in my view. We have decided to implement these books as a regular part of the repertoire curriculum for our students (who are of the right level) henceforth. In summation, while these books may not suit the needs of every student or studio, they do a wonderful job suiting the vision of our studio and the needs of many of our students! ... show more

  • Brilliant Idea - Where Classical Music and the 21st Century Meet - IMO - In My Opinion!
One of the few books that is touted as a book for the beginning pianist that can be enjoyed by the intermediate pianist as well. "A First Book of Classical Music" is a good introduction to music of 24 composers from Bach to Wagner with familiar tunes that you can play in an abbreviated form found in one- or two-page versions. I like the fact that it has fingering noted for each classical piece as well as background information or interesting stories included for each rendition. The eager piano students can work their way through the book quickly as they play classical pieces they have heard and enjoyed! These songs are also available as downloadable MP3s. ... show more

  • Good for beginners
I like this book a lot. I have been teaching myself piano for a short time. This book is nice as most of the pieces you will be familar with. I found them a bit of a challenge for my level but not not impossible.

  • Quality of the book is so disappointing!
Well, the content of this book would be great for an intermediate/advanced beginner. Great selection of classical pieces. The quality of the book itself, is another matter. The pages weren't even cut, just slightly perforated. I had to pull them apart, and of course some tore. Very disappointed.

  • good for beginner
simple versions of some familiar melodies that would encourage newer pianists. though simple, incorporates all challenges of playing.....reading the music, rhythm and lots of time challenges, changing keys. great book also for beginning to refresh those skills one was once taught.

Not impressed with the arrangements or the selection of songs. Passed it on to another piano player.
