The trays were smaller and thinner than I anticipated - smaller and flimsier than the six-packs from a nursery. They are perfect for starting seeds but only big enough for one seed each.

These were exactly what I wanted for starting seedlings that will go into my small, backyard garden. The six cell trays allow for starting a smaller number of plants without having to fill a huge tray with dozens of cells. Big, multi-celled trays make plant removal difficult. These are thin walled but that allows for easy plant removal when you’re ready to transplant. I turn them upside down, carefully massage the cell, and gently push on the bottom and the plant pops right out. The other plants generally stay in place. Just make sure you’ve given the plant enough time to develop a root system, so it can hold the soil together. Generally that means the plant has to be about the same height as the cell. The roots will be deep enough to hold the soil together. As you can see in my pictures, my Pak Choi is about ready to come out, while everything else needs to grow some more. You will be able to use these trays many times if you’re careful with them. I just thoroughly rinse them with hot water and use them again. The only gripe I might have is that there is not enough plant markers included. ... show more

Okay, should do the job. Not the sturdiest but should last for a few seasons if one is careful. I am glad to be able to buy just a few of these, I think they are worth the money and glad I bought them.

    • Not going to last years - but for the price, they'll do what I need right now
My criteria for starting seeds: Will these hold dirt and seeds? Answer: yes Are they bomb proof? No. Are they going to last years? Nope. Will I be able to re-use them? If you don't have super human strength maybe. These are not high quality, they won't last the test of time and they are not going to win any awards, but they DO hold dirt (as advertised) they DO hold seeds (isn't that why you bought them?) and they DO have drainage holes (necessary). I'm not picky...I'll grow seeds in mugs, old shoes, paper cups and egg cartons. These are $5 for 144 chances to start your own veggie and flower seeds. And if you get another year out of even half of them, another 72 chances next year. Even counting in the cost of dirt and seeds, I just got the chance to start over 200 plants for less than $15. These were exactly what I needed. Be sure to look at the size they are about 1.5in by 2in deep they have good drainage holes and have held up well. They are a little thin so they probably won't last you forever but for the price and the amount you get I feel I can get a few uses out of them. If you like to cut your seedlings out of the container these would be great as they are more thin but still don't feel too flimsy. Overall very happy with my purchase I would buy again ... show more
