This spot welder worked great for an entry level spot welding pragmatic hobbyist. I love milwaukee 5 ah m18 batteries. I had saved a bunch of cells from these, and had one with a fried circuit board. Within a week of getting this product I got back 2 fully functional 5 ah batteries! I'm descent at soldering, but just soldering can't fix these batteries efficiently. This spot welder basically already paid for itself, so although it hasn't been through the durability and longevity tests, it passes the short-term usefulness and function tests. I didn't read instructions well, just what I needed, experimented until I got it. Use notes: Sometimes a lot more sparkles shoot out (with close to equal charge), and working with batteries can make that scary. Everything was fine, but beware, like a jack in the box. It takes a while to charge, but can do a bunch of welds after it builds up a base charge, it seems. If spot welding on a plastic surface, it will sink because plenty of pressure seems to increase odds of successful weld, and quick heat melts what's under the stuff. The round pad in the box must be for putting under the weld stuff. I usually don't leave reviews, so clearly I'm impressed for the price.

It is about what I expected, and while at first it seemed too weak to really weld my nickel strips, it suddenly started doing I perfectly and has been doing so ever since. I've welded a huge amount since receiving this, and it works flawlessly. The leads do get very hot, so make sure to take a break in between welding.

I used this spot welder to attach new cells into 80v battery packs that failed. Replaced six cells using this welder and got my battery pack back in operation saving me a lot of money versus buying a new pack. Will come in handy having it around. Leads are robust and have changeable electrodes. Nice that it works off battery and does not need to be plugged in. I did about 30 welds and still was going well. Only negative is the cable for the foot pedal is a bit short, but is just long enough to get the job done. I do worry that battery internal to the device will be its weak link to long term use.

I’ve been using this spot welder for several months, and it works perfect for spot welding nickel strips. However, (at least for mine) the BMS (Battery Management System), does not stop charging the cells at 4.2 volts. I left it plugged in for an hour while working on other projects, and it had charged to an indicated 8.7 volts and was still charging according to the units volt readout. If correct, this is a large fire hazard, so buyer beware!

There is no internal strain relief to prevent the foot pedal wires from twisting. If the wires do twist at all it rips the pad off of the board and the unit is trash. Worked OK before that but it's cumbersome with the wires being non-detachable and too short to comfortably work with.

The welder is effective for tacking 0.1 to 0.3 mm nickel strips onto other conductors of varying size. The battery holds sufficient charge to do more than 100 welds. Variable pulse allows avoiding punching holes, although some trial and error may be necessary for different strip thicknesses and target substrates. I have not had success with copper strips/foils. That is not the fault of the welder; given the pulse energy limits, it's just physics.
