  • Tripp Lite gear is built to last (B030-008-17-IP review)
Style: HDMI 17" Screen + Remote Access Configuration: 8-Port
This is a review for model B030-008-17-IP. As a Global Technology Director I have seen my fair share of KVM styles and brands, and over the years have seen which last and which don't. Tripp Lite builds their KVM consoles in a metal housing for a reason! I have come to rely on their KVM's over the years and is the only brand I use if a KVM and or Console is required. To be objective, one thing about the new B030-008-17-IP that bothers me a bit is the opening and closing experience. The keyboard tray pulls out very nice. The monitor I find fulls out very stiff and wants to "spring up" when closed and clipped in the rack. This may be as this is a brand-new unit and is a bit stiff. The release catches to pull the display out further, for me, do not come out quite far enough for my use-case. I have this in a XRackPro2 so there is a bit of distance from the rails to the face of the rack. The KVM does clear it but just barely. The environments I would usually deploy these which are open cage style server rooms, this obviously would not be an issue. If I had one request It would be to have the option for a Mac keyboard or at least keycaps with remapping ability. As well as the option to turn off "tap to click". The remote access feature of the B030-008-17-IP is very outdated but reliable. If using the web GUI and want to pop into one of the servers, it downloads a Java jar file you must open which is just an old and outdated technology in my opinion. The Web GUI could definitely use a facelift on the B030-008-17-IP but its only aesthetics so cant complain! And finally Tripp Lite has a model with HDMI/USB for us who have servers built after the stone age! Sorry to those still using PS2. If you are in IT professionally you won't regret buying a B030-008-17-IP! ... show more

  • Extremely well packed
Style: Local + PS2/USB Cables Configuration: 8-Port
We needed a KVM for a rack of servers we are assembling. The KVM Switch is all inclusive and complete. Installs quickly and connected very quickly. Usual Tripp quality.

  • Built well, decent performer
Style: 19" LCD Configuration: 1-Port
Although our first KVM had 6+ keys that didn't work; I had a great experience with Amazon completing an advanced RMA! Pros: The unit has a very solid feel. The screen is very stiff when opening (which I like), not flimsy and shaky when typing. The KVM does not flex much with hands resting on the keyboard. Cons: The screen is a little fuzzy and not as clear as I'd expect from a quality LCD ... show more

  • Not a professional quality product
Style: DVI 19" Screen Configuration: 1-Port
The insanity of this device is mind-boggling. Video I/O is handled through a DVI port and DVI cable. Servers in racks ALL still use VGA connections. Our Tripp-lite KVM switch uses VGA for the Video I/O. Why would you equip this console with DVI???? Not only that, but I was instructed by Tripp-lite support (3 different support reps) that I'd need to disconnect all of my servers from the KVM switch, get a computer with a VGA port on it connected BY ITSELF to the KVM switch, then connect this console to the KVM. Power up the computer, then the KVM, then THIS CONSOLE. Once that was done, I could then connect the servers to the KVM switch. I did this, it did not work; once I plugged the first server video into the KVM switch, total loss of keyboard and mouse on BOTH devices. The solution, according to Tripp-lite was to power down all servers the bring them on one by one. NOPE. Shipped this thing back. They can keep it. ... show more

  • Tripp Lite customer service is excellent!
Style: Local + PS2/USB Cables Configuration: 16-Port
We own two KVM switches from Tripp Lite. An entry levelt and this one. Both work great without any issues whatsoever. Worth mentioning for review: our technician accidently damaged the KVM video cable. It is impossible to order one from anywhere, so we contacted Tripp Lite support. Even though this was not a warranty issue, they have sent us a replacement free of charge, shipping included. Highly recommend!! ... show more

  • Excellent KVM-LCD Combo
Style: VGA 19" Screen Configuration: 8-Port
Great KVC LCD combo. We used it in a data center rack. Depth is adjustable. A 1U height was a benefit over the older units we just tossed. Price was right. Packed well. Quick key combo easy. Happy with unit.

  • Really Bad Customer Support
Style: 19" LCD Configuration: 1-Port
When I received this item, the mouse pad and keyboard did not work. At first, I thought the PS2 to USB adapter was not working so I contacted Tripp Lite and got a replacement. When the adapter came in, I hooked it up and that did not fix the problem. After contacting Tripp Lite again, I was given a list of actions to take to clear up the problem. (Procedure A) After following that list, the problem was not resolved. When I told Tripp Lite that the procedure they gave me didn't work, I was referred to follow Procedure A. After repeating this step about 5 times without the problem clearing up, I was again told to retry Procedure A. After a few more calls to Tripp Lite and repeating the procedure that didn't work several more times. ( I even made a video of me following their instructions and sent them a YouTube link) I received an email from Tripp Lite with a vague hint that the rackmount display should be returned for service. After sending emails to Tripp Lite requesting repair service for the device I never heard back from them. My best guess is that if they ignore me long enough, the warranty will run out so I can be charged full price for the repair. The only Tripp Lite products I plan on buying in the future are second-hand products. At least then I will not have to worry about dealing with Tripp Lite's Customer (non)Support. ... show more

  • Configuration is very lacking
Style: HDMI 17" Screen + Remote Access Configuration: 8-Port
You can't even disable login requirement at the console, how stupid. It's also incompatible with many VGA HDMI converters. The hardware itself is otherwise fine.
