  • I never knew NES games could look so sharp and lovely on my 47" HDTV.
I have been a NES collector for years I have around 770 different titles. I wanted to try one of these HD clones out because tbh NES composite video looks ok on a smaller LCD but when you get up to a 47" not so much. That's where this system really shines imo I mean everything is so sharp and colors vibrant. Another good thing is the audio comes through the HDMI and actually comes out both speakers on my TV so no worries about audio y splitters. I picked up the 143 in 1 cart on here as well & it's superb combination with this little HD NES clone by gamerz tek. It takes up hardly any space. The controllers with this system I can't say enough good about. They actually feel better than the original NES controllers and this is coming from a guy who grew up loving the old rectangle shaped pad. The rounded corners are just more comfortable plain and simple, especially for longer gaming sessions. The buttons even have that little concave touch that just feels right and the dpad is great. The select and start buttons are round but made of the same rubber type material as the original. The system also has AV output and comes with those cables as well as a good quality HDMI cable. Only one output functions at a time but I don't see that as an issue. Main thing with these little systems is NEVER put a dirty game in. A dirty game is any game that has not been taken apart and had the pins polished with metal polishing paste and a cloth. Simply using a qtip and rubbing alcohol just don't cut it. Invest in a security bit and some metal glo polishing paste and clean every game. If you buy the multicart you don't have to worry about that either and actually can just leave it in the system all the time if you like. I have the standard versions of the gamerz tek 8 bit with the AV output only and it's great as well but image quality not close on a big screen when compared to hdmi. For some reason Super Mario Bros looks really crappy where as Super Mario 3 not bad or even Zelda. On smaller screens the AV fairs better but if your TV has HDMI definitely spend the extra $$$ and get the HD version. It has a cool blue LED light on front where as the AV only version is red which is a neat touch distinguishing the 2. Also I think the HD version controllers look better with the same color scheme as the originals. I've heard people say the sound is off but to me it's not noticeable enough to make a difference. The really great thing is no lag which I expected with hdmi because even Nintendo's very own NES classic which I have as well and it has a small amount of lag which I instantly recognize since I played Mario so much growing up. I gave this little console 5 stars because I just don't think there's a better value out there in 8 bit gaming. Now I'm considering getting gamerz tek 2 in 1 NES and SNES HD system because I've seeing good reviews on it and am curious how SNES would look on my HDTV. ... show more

  • Just pay extra for the original
I got this in an attempt to get a NES for less. I should've just waited and got a genuine NES. The game carts are exceptionally tight and very difficult to remove. And yet they are somehow also incredibly loose when they are inserted. The wiggle a great deal. The system doesn't play carts easily. I had to clean carts numerous times before they would read and even then they wouldn't read the next time I inserted them. Some games i could never get to work. The controllers are fine. A little flimsy but they are responsive and work well enough. Overall i just cant recommend this to anyone. ... show more

  • Satisfactory - overall pleased with product (Game Genie makes easier to use)
I think some people simply gave up too easy who left negative reviews claiming it doesn't work at all. That's because this product is indeed a bit fickle with getting it to read the cartridges. First of all, when the instructions say the game cartridges need to be clean - they mean very clean - and the cartridges are likely much dirtier than you might think - after all, they are all 20 to 30 years old - especially if they were not kept in their sleeves and boxes - but even those are still dirty after so many years. The Q-tips dipped in alcohol (soaked, but not dripping) needs to be used to scrub them down - they will likely turn black or green and you may have to use several per cartridge - once they stop turning black or green you know you've got it clean - and keep using fresh Q-tips - you don't want to replace dirt and grime with frayed cotton threads on the connectors. The next challenge is getting the cartridges snuggly fit into the unit - you will need to look down into the unit to make sure when you are pressing the cartridge into the right spot - and "wiggling" cartridge in is not a good idea - it needs to go straight down and fit in place - sometimes you have to remove it (again, no wiggling - pull straight out) and reinsert to get it in place just right to get it to read. Once you've got that mastered, you are good to go. This is one reason it doesn't get a full 5 stars - surely there must be a way to design this so allow for the loading and unloading of cartridges to be less tedious and put wear and tear on the unit. However, if you have the original Game Genie like I do, you have a great work around. Have a cartridge in the Game Genie (a very clean Game Genie) and get it inserted properly once - once you've got that, you don't have to worry about getting it properly connected again. Just hold the Game Genie down in the unit and load and unload the cartridges from the Game Genie - as long as you don't dislodge the Game Genie, you should never have an issue again, and it is much easier to load and unload from the Game Genie pins as it doesn't lodge as tight. You do not have to use any codes with the Game Genie - just hit start without entering any for games you don't have any need to use codes. As far as the game play and appearance, this is the strong suit. The picture is very clear and crisp, and the sound is a good volume and clear. This is a clone system, so color palettes and sound fonts will not be always identical to the original NES in some cases...but this is a negligible issue - it still sounds and looks good, even if not exactly the same at times. This loses a star for not being Zapper compatible - of course, this is not the systems' fault as far as modern TVs, however, it does not work even if using the AV cables into an older tube television, which is disappointing, so no Duck Hunt. The gun is read by the system when you hit the trigger and it makes the flash and the gun sound, but it does not read the picture to shoot the ducks. The controllers are overall excellent. They are very comfortable and seem to be well made - very functional. Only issue I noticed is it seems for moves requiring both A & B to be hit simultaneously it is a bit more difficult to get it to work but there are few instances where that is actually and issue. While the cords are not as long as the original controllers they are longer than some products you get out there these days. I cannot attest this system is compatible with all games as there are many I do not own. I can confirm it works with the following: * Game Genie - codes work - only difference is that it only shows one line of code at a time when you enter, but you can still actually enter three codes and they all three work - they just disappear from the screen when you move to the next line of code, so this is only a cosmetic difference and has no affect on the use of the Game Genie - and as noted above, the Game Genie does away with the issue of difficult loading an unloading and likely reduces wear and tear on the unit as you change games, and again, you don't have to enter any codes in the Game Genie if you don't need them for a particular game - just hit start and bypass it. * Entire NES Mega Man 1-6 series works well. Apparently from what I have read, the music was horrifically bad for Mega Man 1 & 2 on the first version of this unit - I can attest that this is no longer the case - the music sounds great on the current version of this system (however, Game Genie codes still distort 1 & 2 it like they did on the original NES) * Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1, 2, 3 - interestingly, the difference in sound font actually makes the first level of TMNT 3 sound better than the original in my opinion...almost sounds like a 16-bit synthesizer vs. 8-bit. * Wheel of Fortune (original, Family Edition, and Junior Edition) * Monopoly * Anticipation * Double Dragon 1 & 2 * Donkey Kong Classics * Super Mario Bros 1 & 2 * Championship Bowling * Mike Tyson's Punch Out * Silent Service * Chip N Dales Rescue Rangers * Infiltrator So, likely, this unit will work with all or nearly all of your old NES games, and it is a great value for the money. Just be aware of the issues with loading and unloading cartridges and the need to be careful to avoid wear and tear on the unit - if everyone had a Game Genie to avoid this like I do, I would give it 4 stars...however, since many if not most people don't, I have to take that into consideration - hopefully they can work on the design to make this less of an issue. I am overall very pleased with the product and have enjoyed playing all of my old NES games on it. ... show more

  • Great product, great company
Works great, comes with two controllers that are better than the original nes ones in my opinion, and plays every game I've tried on it (which to be fair, is not many), including one of those dubious Chinese 150 in 1 multicart things that have a Famicom cartridge inside the NES cartridge with an adapter. If you're looking for a cheap way to play NES on an HD TV with hdmi, this is what you need. The sound is great, just like I remember. I heard the old version had some kind of factory screw up that resulted in messed up sound, but this version doesn't have that problem. Also have to mention the great customer service that I've seen from this company. My one complaint is that some of the colors seem off, mostly reds being too red. But for people who don't want to pay scalpers for an NES classic, this is a good buy. Also, castlevania 3 had some slight sound issues, nothing deal breaking but it just didn't quite sound right to me. But, I've heard that game uses all kinds of weird sound technology that doesn't really work well on most nes clones. With that considered, they did a great job here. For the price point, this is an excellent product. ... show more
