  • Great product, great company
Works great, comes with two controllers that are better than the original nes ones in my opinion, and plays every game I've tried on it (which to be fair, is not many), including one of those dubious Chinese 150 in 1 multicart things that have a Famicom cartridge inside the NES cartridge with an adapter. If you're looking for a cheap way to play NES on an HD TV with hdmi, this is what you need. The sound is great, just like I remember. I heard the old version had some kind of factory screw up that resulted in messed up sound, but this version doesn't have that problem. Also have to mention the great customer service that I've seen from this company. My one complaint is that some of the colors seem off, mostly reds being too red. But for people who don't want to pay scalpers for an NES classic, this is a good buy. Also, castlevania 3 had some slight sound issues, nothing deal breaking but it just didn't quite sound right to me. But, I've heard that game uses all kinds of weird sound technology that doesn't really work well on most nes clones. With that considered, they did a great job here. For the price point, this is an excellent product. ... show more

  • Just pay extra for the original
I got this in an attempt to get a NES for less. I should've just waited and got a genuine NES. The game carts are exceptionally tight and very difficult to remove. And yet they are somehow also incredibly loose when they are inserted. The wiggle a great deal. The system doesn't play carts easily. I had to clean carts numerous times before they would read and even then they wouldn't read the next time I inserted them. Some games i could never get to work. The controllers are fine. A little flimsy but they are responsive and work well enough. Overall i just cant recommend this to anyone. ... show more

  • I wanted to love you, but probably the best cheap (under $50) NES clone
I truly wanted to love the Gamerz Tek 8-bit HD. I had one a couple years ago, and I wanted to try again in hopes they fixed the abysmal sound that suffers from reversed duty cycles in the cloned CPU. That means certain games sound wrong, like the jumps and coins in any Super Mario game, and in the best case scenarios some games just sound slightly out of tune while also lacking sound depth. The video on the other hand is pretty good. While the color palette is off, the HDMI visuals are sharp, the colors vibrant, and it produces an overall very clean image. I would have been really happy even while not color perfect if the sound complemented the really clean visuals. Even the composite video is really nice while outputting to a CRT/tube TV's. Input lag is a thing unfortunately while using the HDMI port, it's just off and you can certainly feel it. Oddly enough, I couldn't really detect input lag while using a CRT over composite, so there must be some odd processing going on as the image is processed for HDMI. So, since the whole point of this is a plug and play HDMI solution for modern televisions for most people, input lag will really kill your experience. If you wonder why you aren't doing as well as you remembered playing Mario, it actually may not because of you not playing it for a while, its the lag over HDMI. There seems to be a perceptible delay when you press a button to when an action happens on the screen. The controllers are awesome. They just are. I wish the cord was a little longer (I think they're 5FT), they just work well, but buttons responsive, and they are comfortable. The controllers are the best part of the package and since there are 2 of them, I don't feel as bad as I would have otherwise. Bottom line: I use the controllers on my real NES. The 8-bit HD is Ok. For someone looking for a cheap NES in a box that is plug and play, it's Ok. You'll be disappointed if you want to do any real action gaming on this thing, but for simple games that don't rely on twitch mechanics, it's fine. A real NES will always be better for most people that want to actually experience what they remembered growing up if your TV has a composite input and of course there are more expensive solutions available or devices called scalers that will help convert a composite signal to a more modern HDMI output. Just be careful with those however because cheap scalers can also add input lag, but at the very least you'll have accurate colors and sound. ... show more

  • Great Unit, but does not work with Everdrive
My AVS broke, and I bought this as a replacement while I was waiting to see if the AVS could be fixed. It's not perfect, but it greatly exceeded my expectations and makes a great temporary HD NES solution. The picture is pretty good, but it puts out a forced 16:9 aspect ratio, so if you don't want to play your games stretched out you'll need to adjust the aspect ratio through your TV's settings. With that being said, the picture quality is pretty good, though I prefer the colors from the AVS. The controllers are very comfortable to use and I like them a lot. I got this after the "sound fix" and while some of the notes sound a little off, I haven't played any games yet that just sound wrong. It might be a compatibility issue with some games. Finally, as the title says, using the Everdrive N8 just produces a black screen which is disappointing, but not something that I feel should be held against the system since it's not an official NES cart in the first place. Anyway if you're looking to get this to use the Everdrive with, you're better off getting something else. Otherwise this is a very capable unit, and for the $25 I paid, it really doesn't get better than this. ... show more
