  • What A Disappointment!
These arrived and the box was ripped and the inside plastic trays were also damaged (please see pics that are drawn on and highlighted). It's important that this stays intact as pencils need to be and stay organized for use. I have included pictures of the swatch tests I completed and in my admittedly bad handwriting you can see my notes but I will repeat them here: The watercolor pencils perform mostly has they should. Good pigmentation although the pigment is soft. This means the pencils are hard to keep sharpened and require frequent resharpening. The tips also break easily. They are those kind of pencils where you almost have the sharpness you need then the entire tip breaks off into the sharpener and you have to stop, dig the lead out of the sharpener, and begin again. This happened to me 10 times while only doing these little swatches for this pencil set and I found that incredibly frustrating. Packaging states that this is for beginners and artists. I can see this being a decent beginner set for the price point but any artist used to using pencils would give up in frustration, I know I did. The watercolor pencils did respond well to water but I was unable to blend the colors and since that is the point of watercolor, layering and blending, I find these useless. Neither eraser works well. The sharpener does work well when the pencil lead doesn't break. The blending sticks work well. The metallics are not giving metallic at all. The gold looks like an ugly version of ochre and the silver is simply gray. The color pencils have vibrant hues but again, the lead is soft and requires frequent resharpening. The pencils are actually the best of the entire lot, those and the blending sticks. The charcoal pencils were useless however, the lead kept breaking off and these came unsharpened. If I really wanted to use them I'd have to resort to sharpening with a penknife and my days of expending that much effort are long behind me. This set gets two stars for the low price point, vibrancy of the colors, and usefulness of the pencils. ... show more

  • Excellent value!!
I read some other reviews of this artist drawing set. Yes, they’re correct that “Art Knife” is shown on the back of the box, but is actually non-existent in the set. You WILL need a utility knife to sharpen the charcoal pencils, but that would mean the “Ages 3+” on the box couldn’t possibly be correct. For these reasons (art knife and age claims), I am deducting a star in my rating…..I haven’t touched real artist graphite pencils in decades, and the only colored pencils I’ve used have been difficult to work with due to hardness. I hate having to press so much to get a decent amount of color down. But the pencils in THIS set are a JOY!!! OK, they’re soft. That’s what makes it easy for a beginner! Get the color or graphite on the paper and SEE your progress immediately! These are especially good for younger artists (I’d say 10+) and the elderly! I highly doubt that a professional would spend only $10 on a set of pencils this big. Which brings us to VALUE! C’mon. $10??? For ALL of this? It’s a GREAT set for beginners. Include a pad of quality drawing paper (I tested these on white cardstock), and you have a wonderful gift for a budding artist….I know I’ll enjoy using these pencils myself. Note: I’m going to assume they conform to safety standards as claimed. ... show more

  • Nice set
This is a nice colored pencil set. Aside from the colored pencils, there is a sharpener and different erasers. There are different types of pencils: oil, water color, metallic, etc. There is also a knife, blending pencils, and a brush. It's a nice set and a good value at $9.

  • Beginners Sketching Kit
This kit has decent pencils of every size. The actual kit works great, but the packaging leaves to be desired. It's very thin cardboard, so you'll end up needing to use some other container to keep them in, which ruins the organization. The quality of the art supplies is on par with anything else, and it's a great set for beginners to start in on sketching. ... show more

  • Not as listed
The back of the products says that there is an art knife included. The inserts don't even have a spot to put one, there is no knife. It claims that these are oil based colored pencils. The pencils leave behind a wax residue when exposed to water and all three sets bleed to some extent when wetted. I included a picture of the water I used to illustrate the wax residue that lifts from the pencils. I swatched each colored pencils, built up the color, and then applied water. I scarred the paper attempting to build up the color. The pencil cores lack pigment and are harder than desired. I was surprised at how much one of the metallic pencils bled, it could easily be used as a water color pencil. I included a picture of the swatches to show all of them had some extent of bleeding. Oil based pencils would not lift with water and definitely wouldn't have wax. The ingredients are not as advertised. None of the metallic pencils have metallic sheen or appearance. The H - B pencils are better than the colored pencils. I was annoyed at the pencils they chose to duplicate. Everyone already has 2B pencils in their homes, it's the industry standard for writing. Instead of giving multiples of the softest ones that I will go through the quickest, it feels like someone just tossed in a few random extra pencils. It's no surprise that the rubber eraser barely works. I expected better from the other one but it only achieved marginally better. Due to the misleading information on the included materials, the falsehoods in the ingredients, and poor performance I'm tossing this in the bin. I can't trust that what I'm exposing myself to is safe. ... show more
