Used these instead of real eggs to decorate with my toddler for Easter. Permanent markers work on these eggs as well as some of the dyes that come in the boxed kits. Overall pretty happy with them as an alternative to real eggs. Figuring out which dyes they worked with required some experimenting. Materials and dyes that work on these eggs: The dyes that come in pouches where you squeeze a few drops into a bag work well with these eggs. This includes dyes from the swirl and cosmic kits you get at the grocery store. The eggs also work with the Eggmazing spinning decorator pens. Crayons and permanent markers also stick well. Additionally, stickers that come with the decorating kits stick to these eggs. Materials that DON'T work on these eggs: Dyes that require you to add water and/or vinegar do not stick to these eggs. This includes color cups that contain dye tabs. High pigment Ukrainian (pysanky) dyes do not stick to these eggs either.

I bought a six pack. The eggs were smaller than anticipated, smaller than chicken eggs. Three of the eggs are solid, and three eggs came halved with a smaller egg “yoke” inside. The yoke is about the size of a robin’s egg, small. The halved eggs do not snap or otherwise fit together, which is a very frustrating feature. I decided to keep the 3 solid eggs (they are very nice) and throw out the half pieces and yokes because I know that they will be a mess to keep track of.
