I think these things need to be changed out about every 5 years or so. The never really get used (you hope), so they get pretty dirty and corroded inside. This one works as it should and hopefully it will last another 5-years. If it doesn't, Ill let you know. Be sure to test yours before each trip and it will last longer.

If you have an RV or camper trailer that you are going to be using you definitely want to have this as a back up. Especially important if you have one that has already broken to replace it and this is a great replacement. I love the fact that this is lightweight. It's easy to install and it's pretty good quality. I got this for the fact that I need it something just in case my breakaway that's currently on the RV trailer broke. This was is also good to have as a primary as well or replacement because you have to have these breakaway Cords when you are pulling or towing anything. I would see the quality is good so I say get it as soon as possible because it's a necessary tool to have.

This breakaway kit is as described meant for when you tow a camper. In that case, you can leave the coiled steel cable hanging off the camper when parked. I do not actually tow a camper; I drive a motorhome, which tows a pickup truck. Same principles apply and same breakaway type system is used, but since the truck is driven separately when the motorhome is parked, I'd not want to have the coil hanging off the front of the truck. So, I had to separate the cable from the keyring attachment to the breakaway box and put an additional carabiner on that end to get something that could be easily detached. Other than that, this was a perfect replacement for my previous breakaway setup, which got broken in a minor fender bender. It seems to be the same exact parts as originally included with my towbar. Highly recommended. (But get an extra carabiner if you tow something other than a camper.)

I have one of these on a "Toad" that I pull behind my RV. It is about 8 years old. It was on another car previously and moved to my current car. I test it before every trip but is seems to be harder to activate than when it was new. And the weather and rust have taken a toll on it. It is super easy to install. This item is too important to have doubts about its reliability. If ever activated (meaning the car has become disconnected from the RV) it will immediately activate the InvisiBrake system on my car to bring the car to a stop. This one is a direct replacement to my current one and restores peace of mind that it will work if ever needed. If you have a similar device on anything you tow, I suggest that you test it routinely to insure that it will function if needed. If you have any doubts at all and purchase this I think you can feel assured that it will do what it needs to do based on the the lifespan of my previous one. Spending under $20 on something that might prevent major damage or even save a life is money well spent.

This is a review of the EEBBL brand 6' Breakaway Trailer Cable Trailer Brake Cable RV Stainless Steel Spring Towing Coiled Wire Safety Straps Ground Clip, for Breakaway Switch. I received this product free of charge to share my product experiences with Amazon customers to help them make informed buying decisions. This is an honest review from a real person. I didn’t pay for the item, so I will only comment on the apparent quality and utility, not on the value. Prices fluctuate regularly and I always recommend shopping around and comparing what’s available to get your best deal on the date you decide to buy. I picked this up to have an extra on hand in case my primary cable was lost, forgotten, stolen or (gulp) damaged from use. I am impressed by the quality. This cable is a thicker gauge than the OEM cable on my Blue Ox braking system. I decided to swap it out with the one I was using since this one is higher quality. I’ll keep the OEM as the spare. This cable is literally 6 feet extended and that’s about it. If you’ve got to go 7 feet, I doubt this would work. As a bonus, it came with a replacement breakaway switch key attached. This key isn’t shown in any of the Amazon marketing pictures or in the item description, but it is much appreciated! You can see it in one of my pictures. I love this item. It exceeds my expectations for quality and function. 5 stars. I rate products according to the following scale: 1 Star: Do not buy. Very poor quality, functionality, or other issues. 2 Stars: Do not buy. Not as bad as a 1 Star, but it still has major downsides. 3 Stars: There are some issues as described in my review. Shop around before you buy 4 Stars: This item met my expectations and functions as intended. 5 Stars: I love this item. It exceeds my expectations for quality and function.

Installation was easy as I was just replacing a previous disconnect switch. The included cable and wiring are sufficient length to make everything work. The vehicle cable is long with a coil set to maintain the cable up off the road. Including the carabiner is a nice touch so I don't have to hitch the cable every time I use the trailer.
