I tried this with dandelions. Maybe it was unrealistic, but I was thinking it was going to be able to remove the whole dandelion on the first try. No such luck. What I found was interesting though. I started with the shorter tool and, using the forked side, the top of the dandelion was removed, along with the dirt surrounding the taproot. Because it didn't just chop the taproot off, I was easily able to dig that root out. (Although, in retrospect, I'm not sure how much better that is than just digging it out with a regular hand shovel, but I guess it did separate the dirt from the root so I could put the dirt right back in the hole.) I assumed that the long handled tool would work the same, but require less effort, due to leverage. I assumed wrong. I tried it on multiple dandelions, but wasn't ever able to get it to work like the smaller tool did. However, I remembered the listing saying it could be used to turn a garden and, though I wasn't sure what to expect from trying to turn the soil (this is my first spring in this house), the long handled tool worked beautifully, turning the soil effortlessly and without any need to bend over or anything like that, so I think it'll be easier on my body than other options might be. The long handled tool arrived in pieces, but is simple to assemble. (The smaller tool comes fully assembled.) For someone taller, the full length of the long handled tool would be wonderful. I found it a little awkward, but that wasn't a problem because all I had to do was remove one of the middle sections and *poof* suddenly it was the perfect size for me too. While the functionality might not have been exactly what I expected, the quality is definitely there. They're very solidly built and will definitely last for a very long time.
