  • The best 60 degree bit I've used yet.
I run CNC shop and do a lot of cutting everyday. I use bits and tools of all types, but I find that V bits are the most difficult to source. The reason is V bits perform differently depending on the manufacturer, design, material, etc. I find Amana and Whiteside bits the most dependable V bits, but I'm always on the hunt for something better. This CMT 858.001.11 is definitely something better... This bit does a superb job. Cuts are crisp and clean and I really like that the bit is cut from a single carbide slug (mounted in a mild steel body). The 3 flute design allows me to slow down the RPMs more than a little, for MDF and the like I've been at 16k rpm. The feedrate is around 60ipm. I say "around" due to the velocity fluctuations occurring from the many short moves that engraving often demands. On longer moves running at 120 to 180 ipm is totally possible, there I would bump the speed up to 20k rpm depending on the material. I have not cut any plastics with it yet, but when I do I'll update this review. Check out my pics... I think this is a really great bit and will be buying more of them. Happy cutting! ... show more

  • Ugly burrs. nvm
I ordered this bit highly recommended and when I received it I noticed ugly burrs 3/4 the way up the bit (as another buyer mentioned). They are past the cutting edge though. I'm assuming this would cost me return fees! I purchased two other CMT bits and they appear fine. One is the 90 degree which is constructed similar. I'm going to use a fine honing stone to nip the burrs, try to maintain the cutting edge, and see how the tool performs after. Will update then. Update: upon further inspection this tool is of excellent quality. The burrs are just that and break off by hand. There are no edge defects. The bit runs very true and balanced. Highly recommend this brand. ... show more

  • Super Crisp V-carves
The 3-flute design and extreme point that the flutes form really does make for some great V-carvings! The bit stays sharp for a reasonable amount of time but if I had to say why I didn't 5-star this bit is because it's not really possible to hone up the edges on this bit... maybe a blade sharpening shop would have a special piece of equipment capable of sharpening this. The price on amazon is perfect but if bought elsewhere for prices of $35+ this wouldn't be the value it is here. ... show more

  • Bit doesn’t cut well at all, no matter feed rate or spindle speed.
I had read great things about this bit. My cheap one finally got a full tip so I decided to order this one cause it seemed like an upgrade. Immediately it began cutting like trash. The first test cut I did on my sign it almost “pushed” the material out of the way instead of cutting. It’s like the first 20% of the bit was dull out of the box. Highly let down but ya live and learn. Just trying to pass on the experience for those thinking this is a hyped upgrade. Thanks all and have fun! ... show more

  • 60 degree router bit
Great bit at an excellent price! Shipped free in two days. Works well as a carving bit in my CNC machine. Don't know why I waited so long before buying. Highly recommend this bit to anyone carving signs, letter, or images.

  • Excellent bit
Excellent bit. Been using CMT bits in my trim carpentry work for years, and now use this one for CNC work. It is very finely made, and with 3 cutting edges it cuts much cleaner than 1 or 2 cutter versions. Does very fine detail work because the tip is so carefully ground. Also seems to stay sharp for a long time. Well worth the extra money!! ... show more

  • Rock on
Ive mainly used these bits on pine wood with my cnc machine. So far ive I truly love them especially for the price. Once my feeds and speeds were dialed in nicely I get really nice cuts mith almost no tear out. If your on a budget I highly recommend these bits. Dont listen to negative reviews of those who are clearly running the wrong speeds. ... show more
