While this is a very hefty digging bar, it’s not as strong as one might think. I’ve used such a bar extensively in the past, so I have a good sense of what a bar like this can/should do. This ain’t it. I took it out to a limestone rock I have in the lawn and gave it a good whack. It probably did more harm to the digging bar than the digging bar did to the rock. I figured that might be the case; Things aren’t typically made the way they used to be unless you’re paying absolute top dollar. On that note; While $90 may be a big sum, an item like this has to be remarkably expensive to get to your front door. There’s no folding or assembly of course, so this came in a long, heavy box. So I imagine a good portion of the cost isn’t for the item itself. I also noticed that my bar isn’t perfectly straight; It has a slight wobble in it. A quality bar won’t have that. Overall the bar has a little bit of a cheap feel to it compared to the one I’ve used previously. Personally, I’d spend up for a known brand with a product like this one, especially if you want it to last you a lifetime. This one will do in a pinch, and it’s still a great bar for setting posts and compacting backfill, but not the one you want if you get in a fight with rocky soil. 3.5 stars if I could, but I’ll round down to 3 since they advertise this as having “unbeatable strength.”

The title says it all! This is a serious implement, designed for serious damage. It's 5' long, and comes with a chisel on one end, and a sharp pencil point on the other. And it is heavy, but that weight puts some heft behind wherever you direct it. I chopped through some reasonably-sized roots (around 1 1/2"-2") and got up about four sections in just a few minutes. The pencil point end would likely break up rocks with ease (but wear safety glasses!). I would definitely dry this thing after use since I would expect it would rust easily despite the claims (most tools do). But yeah, if you want to go to war against roots, rock and concrete, then this is what you need to have in your hands.
