  • Buy one just to fiddle with!
Just lovely! Heavy metallic knob with distinct feeling, just like an expensive safe. Super-clean A/B output pulse train. (Normal plus inverted)

  • Working good with 5 volt.
I use this encoder to control VFO on y SDR radio. I like it's clicks.

  • Impressed with overall quality
I just received this and have not hooked it up yet. I plan in using it on my CNC Lathe. My first impression taking it out of the box is very good. The construction is high-quality, fit and finish are nice. I am especially impressed with the weight, it is heavy and this makes the operation easier and gives better control. Any large knob like this is much easier to use if it's weighted, all my radio gear is like this and I was happy to see it. I will add to this review after connecting and using it. ... show more

  • Actually, Impressed With These
Typically I'm use to using small little cheap encoders with Arduinos. A lot of times I experience debounce issues and having to code for that, and even after trying countless libraries..still get miss-counts more often than not. So, I wasn't really sure what I was getting into with these having all the outputs on the back. I opted to only use 2 of the 4 outputs. I didn't use the inverting ones. I connected 3.3V power to the encoder and wrote up arduino code from scratch. I told the code to light up an LED whenever A is high, and another for when B is high. If you SLOWLY turn the knob, to make it "do stuff" before the "click" It functions like this, turning to the right: 1) A goes High 2) A and B goes High 3) Only B is high 4) Indent/Click of the encoder So I simply told my code to listen for A, then AB, then B, and execute +1 Turn left, Listen for B, AB, A, execute -1 End result, I can turn the wheel pretty fast and its dead-on every time. Left right left right left right, still dead on. Didn't need any debounce or anything. I've never had this much solid reliability with an encoder not miss-counting regardless if I go SUPER slow or reasonably fast. Obviously if you flick it hard, count is lost as I'm limiting my arduino to 1ms loop-time. ... show more

  • Quality encoder
This encoder is all aluminum, is an optical encoder, and uses a bearing. The detents can be removed by unscrewing the knob, prying off the thin aluminum taped on plate, unscrewing three screws, pulling off the top part of the rotor, and pulling out the mechanism.

  • this encoder clicks -- but...
This encoder does have a strong click/index at every division. However if you're willing to void your warranty, you can remove the clicker via the front of the unit in just a few minutes. After that small mod, I found this perfect for my intended use.

  • It's good, but it was better when they were only 8 bucks each
Works well. Nice, solid clicks.

  • Nice rotary encoder
I prefer not to have "clicks" every time I turn the dial. I prefer a smooth rotation. Others have modified these units to remove the cam that causes the "click" feel every time you turn it a degree.
