This is a good tool for cutting foam insulation but it is a little slow. I think it cools down as you pass it through the material. It does cut well. I made several 8 foot long cuts with the straight wire attachment. I did eventually switch to a Fiskars 18mm snap blade knife which I believe is the best toot for 95% of your foam insulation cuts. I cut 9 4x8x2" foam boards into 14.5" strips which fit between the studs. This tool definitely excels are plunge cuts like what might go around an electrical outlet. ... show more

Overall I really liked this hot knife, it worked really well for what I needed it for...until it didn't. I almost exclusively used the j hook attachment, after 2 weeks it started to get really loose and would swivel while trying to cut pockets out of foam which sucked. Yesterday I went to use it and the j hook refused to heat up. Out of curiosity I opened up the plastic casing on the attachment figuring I could fix it myself. One of the wires that go into the plugs had broken and would no longer complete the circuit. I'm really disappointed with the fact that there isn't an option to get replacement attachments now that I know that eventually the other ones will fail. ... show more

Love this, was cutting foam board and having foam "snow" everywhere. This stops all of that! Heats up quickly. Only problem for me is that it doesn't stay charged long enough and I am working off grid, so have to go back and recharge it somewhere.

this thing works for a couple minutes - cuts slow. this is only for small projects, NOT FOR BIGGER CUTTING PROJECTS. after cutting a minute it cooler down and you have to wait until its heated up again. and then another cutting it is already empty and needs to be charged. i was cutting think 2 inch foam ... show more

The tool works well, but the battery charge only lasts about 30 minutes of continuous use. It takes over 2 hours to recharge it.

I used this foam cutter to cut 3" dense foam. So, last time we had to cut foam, my husband wanted to use a battery and some wire and I did not like that at all. This device is much safer, it heats up without making the handle hit, it cut my foam seamlessly and was easy to use. I will never use a "hot wire" again ... show more
